About this ebook

Hello, my name is Xuan Nguyen. IaEUR(tm)m the author of this book, From the Past Lifetime. This is a collection of the real exciting short stories about some of my premonitions, hunches, as well as predictions, since I was a young kid about three years old to when I was an adult about twenty-nine to thirty years old.Since I was a baby, there were already some strange things surrounding me. Back in those days, my grandpa and my mom used to put me in a big plastic bowl every day and taking the shower for me. But whataEUR(tm)s so strange is that if any day I didnaEUR(tm)t take a shower, then I got sick right that day! Another strange thing is that after taking the shower, if anytime they tried to dress me and if I stare at that pair of clothes, then I would get sick the next day if they put that clothes on me!When I turned three years old, one of my favorite aunts at the time suddenly vanished. Then I tried to find her anyway I could, but in my young mind and feelings, I already knew something had happened. Then I told my grandpa and my mom that my aunt would never come back. And it turned out to be so true that my aunt had escaped the ocean and drifted to another land to live forever, never coming back! Besides that, I have some other premonitions and hunches such as about the two thieves who came and stole everything in my house at night. Some other premonitions and predictions I have had such as about Leonardo DiCaprio and his successful nose about the tsunami in Indonesia, about the founder of Walmart, Sam Walton, and many other premonitions and predictions that have happened for real in my life.

Premonition on the Person Who Left the Country Under Three Years Old

That year, I grew up a little bit, about three years old. I was at home with my mother, Grandpa, and Aunt Loan. Every day, my aunt let me go out with her. Sometimes she let me go out with her and her boyfriend named Bac. One day, suddenly I did not see her from morning to the afternoon. I was very worried, did not understand what reason was. I asked my mother and grandfather, but everyone answered they did not know. Where did Aunt Loan go? I want her to come back to me. I went around, around the house, went from the inside and then out of the house, opened the cupboard, looking for my aunt. I still did not see her. I was very scared, ran up and down the stairs. Upstairs also I did not see her.

Sitting down the stairs, I began to ask myself, Where are you going? I want to know. Suddenly in my mind, there came a thing. I knew something but did not say. A few days later, my mother and grandfather brought me back to my hometown with my two younger brother and sister. We left for a pedicab (a front-mounted motorbike and a steel frame for the back seat). I rushed into my grandparents’ house, running straight from the front of the house. I looked up at every corner into the living room, the middle room, and then walked to behind the house. I looked up, although not enough height compares to the big rice bowl, I also tried to stand on one high chair to look for her, but she was not in there. Actually, I had one feeling from my heart but did not say. And what I do not say is often true. That’s my hunch. I knew it was a strange thing. I feel that Aunt Loan was somewhere so far away. So I rushed into my grandparents’ house. When the car had just arrived, I went straight from the front to the back of the house, not telling anyone anything. And when I got to the garden afterward, I looked up at the coconut trees, guava trees, papaya trees, and looked around at other trees. Obviously, I did not see Aunt Loan. I was sure in my mind but still went back to check the big rice bowl again. She was not there. And also behind the large rain barrels to drink, she was not there. Finally back to the room, I went up to the house again—that was the living room—nor I saw her there. I knew it was true and went home to tell my mother and grandfather that there were two younger brother and sister there.

I said, Miss Loan has gone. I know. My aunt went far outside somewhere already.

Grandfather hesitantly said, "In fact, my grandfather also do not want to tell me.

Oh, Grandpa does not know anything, I answered. Miss Loan went so far. I know now, Grandfather. She is not coming back, I said and really wanted to cry because I was still a kid. I often cry. But my slightly older mind has made me realize something.

Then because of a bit of a sharp eye, I was silent, not wanting to open my mouth to say anything else. I know she had gone so far. Meanwhile, the other two little children were still silent. They did not know anything. Actually, Aunt Loan had drifted through the sea to go to another land to live. Never coming back again, just like my feeling.

    Premonition About Two Thieves

About Five to Six Years Old

One day, the whole house was gathering upstairs. Grandfather and my mother were also upstairs. I’m playing toys. Suddenly there was a knock on the lower floor. Grandfather went down to open the door, but I did not let my grandfather go, rushed down the stairs alone faster than him.

Grandpa scolded, Nhat Xuan, let me open it!

But so late, I ran down the stairs. Looking through the opening hole of the big door, but I still could not remove the iron bar across the two doors because it was too heavy. I wanted to know who was knocking on the door. I had a hunch of something. So my feet just slammed down the stairs to open the door, not to let my grandfather come down first. When I looked through the small openings, I saw that it’s an adult’s shadow, but I did not see their face. A bit hesitant, I did not open the latch, nor did tell my grandfather and mother. Standing for a while, my grandfather told me from upstairs, Do you see anyone? Wait, Grandpa will come down and open the door.

I responded loudly and very quickly, I do not open. Grandpa, down here!

Grandfather asked and went down the stairs, Did you open the pin?

Not yet. I do not want to open it either.

Why? Why don’t you open that lock first? Did you leave the iron bar down to the rear? (Because my house was in Vietnam, there were two/three door latches, one of which is the iron bar that my grandfather made to block the large doors for fear of thieves.)

No, I do not open it. Someone is outside. I still hesitated not to remove the small pin first. Grandpa, come here to see! I do not want to open the door for this person!

Truly in my heart at that time, I had been prudent before something. I did not want my grandfather to open it, but he went downstairs and brushed the small pin and lifted the iron bar, then pulled the iron bar out of the door. The door opened. It was a woman with dark skin, tall body but very cold face. This person was about thirty-five to forty years old.

She politely said, Yes, Uncle, I am the cousin of Cuong. [The name of a man, the son of a close friend of my grandfather]. Today I go to here and hope you and Sister Yen to let me sleep one night here. Tomorrow we will go early.

Grandfather asked, So? Where is Cuong? Where is he? Why didn’t he come with you?

Cuong’s mother is actually a good friend of my grandfather. This woman was up in that province. However, my grandfather only having known briefly about Cuong, he did not have as much communications with Cuong as with his mother recently. It was said that he lived in the same section with his mother. But at this moment, why didn’t he go to Saigon at the same time with this said to be a relative woman? She went here alone before him.

She quickly answered to my grandfather and not let him think further, Yeah, do not worry, Uncle Ba. I’m the cousin of Cuong really. My name is Lau. Tonight, Cuong will come. Do not worry, please!

Grandfather hesitated slightly, also a little afraid but did not want to refuse this woman, Oh, okay. So you can be here to rest. Wait for Cuong to come, and I will talk to him.

A few hours later, it was in the evening, and my grandfather, my mother, me, and Y Trieu were at home. I felt cold in my body, sitting in the chair, staring at the woman, scrutinizing her. Her face was still cold but worried about something. That was my feeling. My grandpa and Mother are still eager for her to stay, although in their mind they’re a little afraid because Cuong has not arrived yet. But after a while, someone knocked on the door. It was Cuong. He walked into my house and hugged my grandfather. He brought some little fruits from his hometown and invited my grandfather and mother to eat. My grandfather was seemly reluctant, but when he thought of his under beloved friend, he agreed to let Cuong and Lau stay for a night. Cuong had also visited our house a few times before. Only this Lau was new for the first time. And it was unclear whether she intended to go ahead or naturally go out and cook a banana teapot with coconut milk for us to eat.

She cooked well. The coconut milk and banana were delicious, so we started to get sleepy soon after. Everything was fine. It was an evening, slowly. My mother prepared the screen for the guest to sleep. My mother and I slept upstairs. Two guests were in the upper room with us. Everyone was asleep, only two people in the mood. I do not know. One hour, two hours, then three hours, to the fourth and fifth hour, suddenly I got up. Standing upstairs were my grandfather and mother. Two people are murmuring. Do you know? My house got stolen!

Ms. Lau and Cuong have disappeared. My grandfather and mother were looking in the window of a big and tall glass cabinet, quietly dared not to speak loudly because they were afraid I would get up. Actually, two people were sitting and looking anxiously at each other, face down, ashamed of the children of his close friend, angry at their greed and deceit. Anyway, they are friends. There was a hypothesis that was only Lau to be one thief, Cuong was not. A while time, my grandfather and mother did not say anything. It was like my hunch, and I did not want to open the door yesterday morning.

I asked quickly, Why do Grandpa and Mother get up now? It’s still early?

He still remained silent, not saying anything. Looking down at the little potty for the baby to make water there, I went down to the bed and made water into the potty. When I walked down the bed, looking at the glass door of the cabinet, it made me feel terrible. All the clothes and things in the cabinet have disappeared, both big and small.

I asked my mother, Did the other two people take everything already, Mommy?

Oh, it is for adults. Children do not need to know, my mom answered.

I was upset and said, Right. I knew I did not want to open the door yesterday.

Grandfather also added, his face looked sad, Too disappointed! In my mind, he is a close friend’s son, so I let them sleep for one night. They are so weird and unfair!

In the truth, the other two have disappeared. Never coming back again. Even if Cuong was the son of my grandfather’s close friend, he would also never return to our house anymore. He went with his cousin named Lau forever. That was the truth about my hunch.

    One Monk! (Nico)

About Seven to Eight Years Old

One day, I was sleeping in bed. This bed was in the room of my grandfather and aunts where they often lay down. It was also called the chamber in the upstairs’ floor. Usually, I just took a nap there at noon only. At this time, I did not know why I went to bed with my mother in the evening! My mother and Grandfather also wondered why I went to this room to sleep today but in the evening. They thought I was a
