The Elevator Ride
I was strangely summoned by a resonating voice I did not hear with my ears, but undeniably perceived. This calming silent voice had an unquestionable ring of truth. It was as if the voice carried with it the essence of the speaker who was obviously good. An incredible peace accompanied the call. It was an invitation into fresh awareness of divine reality, which I have since learned had been available to me since the day I was born again. It was an appeal to enter ultimate reality, a bidding to move into an amazing, undiscovered inner world.
This voice, which my ears could not hear, mysteriously awakened a faith in me, and, strangely, with that faith came an ability to see what my physical eyes could not see. There He was—a marvelous being. His presence overshadowed me as if I was swallowed up by Him and filled with His presence at the same time. I am your Guide, among other things,
He said with the tender authority of a shepherd to a helpless sheep. Suddenly, I foresaw an escape from the cyclonic activity in my mind, my chronic emotional typhoons, and the restrictive quagmire of life in Apathy Valley. He led me to an elevator door with a sign above it that said, The way up is down.
Stepping into the elevator, I noticed there were five sides. As I was coming to this realization, my Guide said, Five is the number of grace. This is a grace elevator.
I looked down at the brilliant red floor and somehow knew it symbolized the blood of my Savior. Again, reading my thoughts, He said, Yes, the blood of Jesus. He paid for this elevator ride.
I was instantly overwhelmed, even before we got to our inner destination. Waves of humility, amazement, and gratitude enveloped me. I dropped to my knees. The elevator descended past level after level of mental objections, discouragements, distractions, worries, and cares. The elevator was plunging me into the core of my own being. Our destination was an incredible place within myself, which the devil had successfully hidden from me. As the elevator eased to a stop, the Guide informed me, We are here.
Here where?
I asked.
Oh, this floor has many names. Union Station, for one. This is the place of your union with the Lord Jesus Christ. You are a divine temple, so this is the holy of holies of your being. It has been referred to as the ‘secret place of the Most High.’ When life is as scattered and awhirl as a hurricane, this floor is the eye of the hurricane, a place of tranquility. I will explain more as I give you a tour of what your Father has provided for you and your big Brother purchased for you with His blood.
At that moment, the elevator door opened and hope tangibly rushed in and an incredible God-given boldness stood me up and enabled me to step out into the glory of His presence. I found myself in a foyer with the floor of glistening gold. This place was a heaven within me, pulsating with life. I could not believe I had not left my own being. Was all this within me all the time? Neither my anger at the deceiver nor regret about all the wasted years of not knowing about this place could dampen my excitement about this discovery. The presence in the foyer was so amazing, I could have camped there, but my Guide said, There are many rooms down here. Come on.

He then led me into the first room. I say He led me, but it was more like He carried me across the threshold. I was amazed at the intimate connection between my loving Guide and me. Upon entry into this room, I received a jolt of awareness. I woke up to reality; all fogginess and
