Lyrics Without Music - Joseph Morales
Acknowledgments
To readers, composers, music publishers, and musicians:
To all those people who listened to my reading of lyrics throughout the years (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE).
Let me say I thank you
for your comments and suggestions.
Out of these lyric
selections (a total of my ninety-five best), if only a few result in collaborations, completed songs, demos and actual recordings, I will be joyful.
This collection came about during the years 1999 through 2014. I am certain you will agree, it is time to exhibit them and hope these ideas can be developed with music!
Read this book for pleasure. Then, you need not be a composer to try to sing this book.
THANK YOU!

Dear Readers, Composers, Musicians, et. al:
This collection of ninety-five original (copyrighted) word selections were written from 1999–2014. Words were intended to be set to music as lyrics. Therefore, the title of this book is Lyrics Without Music.
The words are made up of syllables that could become rhythms in possible melodies. Composers who might be interested in collaboration will notice some uncommon verse or chorus patterns and there are some lyrics
that have more than twenty four lines. Those selections that might be considered lacking in commercial appeal might be more suitable for cabaret music. These lyrics
are about various aspects of love and general observations on life.
Composers and/or choreographers might recognize possible music/dance melodies possible in the following selections: Busy, Making the Scene, Fuego, Tango in the Blood, and This Lover’s Lean.
The following lyric
might become a commercial for champagne: Bubbles In Your Bottle.
Fantasy Valentine fits a well-known melody, My Funny Valentine.
Titles of lyric
sheets appear in chorus(es).
Networking is difficult and music publishers prefer radio-ready music whereas I have only lyrics
themselves. As a first time author, this book is not a venture of vanity. After all, Page Publishing, Inc. has accepted my writing acceptable for publication and that is a hopeful encouragement.
There are several lyrics
that were inspired by the television show American Idol. The titles are: American Idol, I Am Your Idol, I Am Your Voice, We Are All The Same, and Your Love’s Made Me Over
In addition, I would like you to know that I have eighteen completed songs that were collaborated years ago (pop,
country ballad,
country rock music genres). I signed at least three music publisher contracts which, unfortunately, did not result in recordings. Maybe, they need better melodies and/or arrangements.
Spinning This Web Of My Own and Table In Blue are two of my best completed songs. You may hear them on YouTube under Maria Marino (vocalist’s name).
Titles as listed appear as chorus or choruses and Titles are listed in A-Z order in the book.
Hear that wild bird callin’ out there! that greater world he must compare
to her cage she keeps him in . . . where she answers his every whim
Like a bird in a gilded cage . . . it’s "his sing for his supper" stage
’though he’s been achin’ to fly . . . since he got spring fever,
that’s why!
chorus
A Bird in A Gilded Cage
yearns to fly away
but no chicks
call for him
so he’ll stay for another day
keep dreamin’ he’ll join those birds
on their natural high
Their survival looks like play
He’s just
A Bird In A Gilded Cage
He would fly to a distant star . . .but with small wings, he can’t fly very far
He will perch in the nearest tree . . . just as long as he can feel free
She feeds him like no tomorrow . . . so, he’s the one who can’t let her go
He will return to her cage to sing . . . as if he had a broken wing!
chorus
repeat
I’m someone diff’rent! I’m someone new!
I’m singin’ "pop"…just meant for you
I’m "hip hop,
rap and
rock ‘n’ "roll"
I’m "r & b and
blues and
soul"
I’m singin’ fast or croonin’ slow
I sing what’s new or songs you know
Like a child in a candy shop!
I pick and choose…your kind of pop!
chorus
American Idol…I long to be
simply because…you vote for me
American Idol…I’ll be your voice
I’ll keep my head…just make your choice
American Idol…on your screen
I’ll sing for you to live my dream
American Idol…I’ve become
My thanks to you . . . that I’m the one!
Sing in the shower? I have done that!
I’m much like you…sometimes, sing flat
so, now, I’m here in front of you
I give my heart! Please love me, too!
I look my best in all these clothes
I’m your idol in every pose
I feel your love in your applause
to sing for you’s my only cause!
chorus
repeat
I went back one hundred years
in grandma’s attic today
Found clothing and many letters
and records that turntables played
Dear Diaries got in my head
and X-rated photographs, too
In our land of milk and honey
they were lovers like me and you
chorus
America’s Love Story
It plays like some time machine
If life is a dream, that’s alright
You can see love in every scene
I knew
