Devil's Creek State Park, Emitville, Maine. Population: 10,666. Cindy and her family go on a camping trip to Devil's Creek. They ignore the warning signs and begin their hike. They find themselves in a realm inhabited by an alien from another world. It hunts them down one by one. Cindy mysteriously survives the ordeal and is taken to Emitville Hospital. She is blamed for the deaths of her family and ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. It is an uphill battle to convince a social worker (Janet Smith, MSW) and a doctor (Dr. Richards PhD) that she encountered an alien from outer space.

SCENE 1

JANE DOE

EMITVILLE HOSPITAL ER, NIGHT

The hospital doors burst open as the gurney rolls forward along the highly polished floor. Paramedic 1 is ventilating Cindy Wilson; paramedic 2 holds an intravenous bottle of blood over Cindy’s head.

A nurse joins the procession. Her name is Pearl Dickson, RN. She grabs Cindy Wilson’s wrist and tries to get a pulse.

NURSE DICKSON

How are her vital signs?

PARAMEDIC 1

Her pulse is very weak.

NURSE DICKSON

And her blood pressure?

PARAMEDIC 2

We had difficulty getting a reading. It was 90 over 45 and dropping.

SHERIFF

She stopped breathing on the way to the hospital.

The hospital elevators roll open.

NURSE DICKSON

Take her to intensive care.

Nurse Dickson stands outside the elevator door. The medics roll Cindy into the elevator. She presses the button for the second floor, and the doors roll closed.

She turns to the county sheriff.

NURSE DICKSON

Does she have a name?

SHERIFF

She’s a Jane Doe at this point but matches the description of a missing girl by the name of Cindy Wilson.

Pause.

SHERIFF

They’re still looking for the rest of the family.

INTERIOR. EMITVILLE HOSPITAL ICU, NIGHT

Cindy awakens to the sound of the heart monitor alarm. A nurse rushes into the room and pushes a button, which silences it.

Cindy tries to get up on her elbows.

CINDY

(Grimaces.)

The nurse pushes Cindy back down onto the hospital bed.

ICU NURSE

You’ll have to remain very still.

CINDY WILSON

Where am I?

The nurse picks up Cindy’s wrist and looks at her watch.

ICU NURSE

You are in the intensive care unit at Emitville General Hospital.

CINDY

Where’s Emitville?

ICU NURSE

It’s near Devil’s Lake State Park.

The nurse pushes a hypodermic needle into Cindy Wilson’s intravenous line and slowly injects morphine sulfate.

Everything around Cindy gets fuzzy and starts to spin like a sickening carousel.

EXTERIOR. FOREST, DAY

Cindy is running through the trees. A thick fog enshrouds the forest. The alien walks on its hind legs. Each step of the beast leaves a footprint with three toes, while its heel never touches the forest floor.

Cindy turns to check the whereabouts of her stalker and stumbles to the ground. She rolls over and puts her forearm over her face to protect her from the predator.

CINDY (Voice Over)

No! Please … don’t hurt me!

INTERIOR. EMITVILLE HOSPITAL, CINDY’S ROOM, DAY

Cindy kicks her heels up and down on the plastic-covered hospital mattress. Her back is against the headboard. Cindy is screaming uncontrollably.

IN THE HALLWAY

Cindy’s screams echo down the hospital corridor. Members of the medical staff rush into Cindy’s room.

Nurse Dickson stops an orderly by the name of Anthony Tony Pirelli.

NURSE DICKSON

I want you to get the social worker on call and have her meet me at the nurses’ station.

TONY

Yes, nurse!

The orderly sprints down the hallway.

BACK IN CINDY’S ROOM

Two security guards by the name of Jacob Jake McGowen and Nicholas Nick Souza try to grab Cindy’s arms. Nurse Dickson wrestles Cindy’s feet, pinning them to the mattress.

NURSE DICKSON

The patient appears to be having some form of hallucination.

The doctor standing to the side smites Cindy and folds his arms across his chest.

DOCTOR

It may be the morphine sulfate. Give her 500 cc of lithium, intravenous push.

NURSE DICKSON

Yes, Doctor, 500 cc lithium, IV push.

The security guards press Cindy’s arms and shoulders to the mattress. Cindy continues to writhe in fear.

NURSE DICKSON

Hold her still, damn it!

JAKE

Can’t you see … that … we’re trying to?

(Grumbles.)

Nurse Dickson jabs the needle into Cindy’s PICC line and quickly plunges the psychiatric medication into Cindy. She pulls the needle out and caps it.

NURSE DICKSON

That should take care of the problem!

Cindy’s face is without expression as the medication goes to work. She rolls her eyes back into her head and blacks out.

NICK

Yeah … for now.

Nurse Dickson tosses the hypodermic needle to the floor littered with used medical supplies. She turns to the orderly named Samuel White.

NURSE DICKSON

Mr. White, I want you to clean up this mess.

THE NEXT DAY

The doctor peels Cindy’s eyelid open with one hand as he beams the flashlight at her pupils with the other. He waves it back and forth as her pupils open and close.

INTERN

Well, young lady. You have made a remarkable recovery.

The intern raises Cindy’s file and studies it carefully. He flips through the pages. The intern pulls a pen from his lab coat pocket and begins writing in her chart.

The intern places her file in the slot at the end of Cindy’s bed and exits her hospital room.

INTERIOR. EMITVILLE HOSPITAL, CINDY’S ROOM, NIGHT

Nurse Dickson checks Cindy’s pulse at her wrist with her left hand as she counts Cindy’s respirations.
