About this ebook

Every once in a while, I get a chance to listen to broadcasts on the radio or watch networking on television. And the more and more I do this, the more and more I get deeply concerned with the quality of so-called religious material presented on such via comments, discussions, lectures, preachings, teachings, etc. Every so often, I get led to deal with some of the monumental misunderstandings that menace the messianic ministry, mission, momentum, motion, motive, and movement. As these pessimistic, provocational presentations prevent permeation of positive providential pressure on the profound populace's psyche patterns, I constantly think about the repercussions they have on the spiritual psyche.

It is very unfortunate that we are letting our guards down and allowing this type of pessimistic provocational presentations to prevent the permeation of positive providential pressure on the profound populace's psyche patterns. There are two strategies/tactics/ways to deal with this type of teaching and preaching: one is defensive and the other is offensive. The offensive tactic/strategy/way to guard against it is to constantly teach and preach against it, thereby exposing it for what it is and minimizing it, if not eliminating it--this is referred to as the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; the defensive tactic/strategy/way to guard against it is to block or prevent it from entering your mind by literally putting a spiritual device of some sort over your mind--this is referred to as the helmet of salvation.

    About the Author

    Foreword

Then the LORD replied: Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it.

    —Habakkuk 2:2

In this day and age, the question must be posed, "Is God still relevant in the age of technology, scientific discoveries, and unabashed humanism? A true believer in God must answer a resounding Yes. God is relevant and needed by those who trust and seek him daily. Yet even those who love the Lord and his son, Jesus, and are comforted by his Holy Spirit still get discouraged. The devil and his tools trigger this discouragement. Tools such as television, the Internet, and a host of other media tools program people into believing that there is no God. We are force-fed a steady diet of demoralizing and amoral messages. My friend, it seems to be mess in these messages." However, what you have in your hand is a message to those who are suffering in this message. This book is an inspirational understanding and a recount of history and research written by a spiritual warrior, Rev. Dr. Allen K. Hand Sr. It is my sincere belief that Dr. Hand has received a vision from God; he has written it down, and now you must read and be inspired to run.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. (Matthew 28:19)

The great commission of Jesus Christ is a bold and declarative command. Jesus, on his way back to the Father in heaven, left explicit and motivating instructions. He said, Go. Go is defined as moving from one place or point to another. Some of its synonyms are to move, proceed, advance or to make progress. This commission has inspired men and women to travel abroad and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. This commission has caused people to seek ways to improve the lives of their neighbors, friends, and strangers who needed encouragement. This commission has inspired people to live a life worthy of the high calling of Christ Jesus.

Some theologians have interpreted this commission to be strictly an esoteric spiritual journey. They believe it exclusively relates to the salvation of the souls of human beings. Yet there were a group of baptized believers who believed that this commission was to challenge the moral and social ills of their day. This social and moral issue was the mistreatment of African-Americans and the denial of basic rights on a municipal, state, and civil level. The men and women who fought against this system had the Bible in their hand and the love of God and justice in their hearts.

The [organizers of the] Progressive National Baptist Convention were pioneers in this fight for civil rights and human dignity. Many people forget the role that this great Christian organization played as the moral conscience of this nation and the world. Luminaries such as Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth shed their light on the dark corners of injustice and inequity. One of the giants of the social gospel of this era, Dr. Allen K. Hand Sr., has taken time to shed light on the struggles, accomplishments, battles, and victories achieved by the pioneers of the PNBC.

This book must serve as a lamp to guide us forward in the ongoing fight for liberty, justice, and equity for all. Thank you, Dr. Hand, for this book. It is one of great information and divine inspiration. Read, grow, and go forth in the name of JESUS!

    Excelsior!

    Acknowledgments/Dedications

We want to acknowledge the following individuals for the numerous dialogues and discussions that caused me to include several topics in this book that I wrote about. They said something or taught something or preached something that jarred my memory of prior personal studies in major and/or significant ways. I will list them in alphabetical order of last name then first name.

Pastor Rev. Dr. Herbert D. Daughtry (my social pastor)

I have had few encounters with ministers that left an indelible impact on my psyche as did Dr. Daughtry. I am amazed how the life of Dr. Daughtry epitomizes and exemplifies the life of Christ's teachings in visible form. Social action, social justice, social policy, etc., are Dr. Daughtry's nicknames. He is called the People's Pastor for a reason. He (and his wife, Rev. Dr. Karen S. Daughtry) are great examples of the concept of a church-community, where the church and the community are one and the same. Their ministerial teamwork laid an important foundation for me and my wife as successful team players in ministry. He would always tell us to (1) make history, (2) interpret history, and (3) record history—maybe not in that order. His inspiration to remove the walls of the structure and minister to people (not just those within and/or part of the four-walled structure) whenever members of the congregation or not will ever be etched in my psyche.

Pastor Emeritus Rev. Dr. Charles B. Dawson (my personal pastor)

Since I was born, I have been under three pastors (in the following order): (1) Rev. George F. Lamb Sr., (2) Rev. Dr. Sydney M. Besselieu, and (3) Rev. Dr. Charles B. Dawson. Each of these powerful men of God had a powerful impact on my life. However, I had and have a very unique relationship with the latter. While I am extremely appreciative of each of these three powerful pastors, I am especially appreciative of the latter. My pastor (Dr. Dawson) is a God-sent, anointed and appointed, spirit-filled man of God with the wisdom of the Most High. Since the mid-seventies, Pastor has been teaching the word of God several times a week (which was virtually unparalleled and unprecedented in his pastoral era / time frame). I tried to make each and every one of his classes throughout the going on four decades that he was teaching. Not only were his classes inspiring but they were challenging to no end. My family (then wife, mother, son, etc.) could not wait to get home from work and other daily endeavors to do our homework assignments from his class and get back to his class to discuss our homework assignments. While this was true for all of his classes, it was especially true when he taught on the books of Daniel and Revelation. He often conversated with another pastor from the Lutheran Church of the Risen Christ on Blake and Chester in Brooklyn, New York (if I remember correctly, his last name was Hanimaire). God has blessed them both with a lot of Biblical insights that Pastor Dawson shared with us when he was the then pastor of the Little Rock Baptist Church on Bristol and Livonia in Brooklyn, New York. I am forever grateful for this teaching and preaching and general conversation in his office throughout the years (and even now); he is still my pastor, although the Lord has blessed me to be a pastor. Every pastor needs a pastor, and he is my pastor. Praise God for Pastor Dawson's life and for his wife (Mother Ruby H. Dawson, who poured into my spirit as well).

Executive Pastor Rev. Dr. Loretta W. Hand (my wife)

Her teaching and preaching are second to quite a few. When I am busy doing pastoral things that take me away from Sunday school for a few minutes, I feel somewhat annoyed (and a little guilty), for I want to get much of the knowledge, wisdom, and understanding that I can from this mighty woman of God, for God has truly gifted her with such spirits gifts/jewels. Her preaching is extremely informative. Taken as an interesting combination (her teaching and her preaching along with her singing), I wonder what our ministry would be like without her impact. She is an integral part of our ministerial process. I thank God for her. I call her and Nowell two of the best preachers and teachers of our day; I will put them up against any radio or television preacher and teacher of our day.

Missionary Mother Rosalie Hand (my mother)

Mommy has been there for and with me from the time I was born. Mommy has always deposited tidbits of knowledge, wisdom, and understanding as well as other seeds of secular as well as spiritual reasoning and intelligence since my earliest awareness and comprehension of life. Although she has not attained the educational levels as many others may have attained, she, nonetheless, has the intelligence and smarts that few of those others have. I am blessed to have her as my mother. To God be the glory for the great things He has done.

Attorney Michael Harding (my legal encourager)

Ever since Rev. Dr. Herbert D. Daughtry Sr., Rev. R. K. Smith (from SCLC), and I attended the weekly court cases at the Court House in Kew Gardens, Queens, on Tuesdays regarding the Sean Bell case, I began to see Attorney Michael Harding in a different light. As I listened to him advise several of the persons in his immediate vicinity, I started becoming intrigued with the way in which he processed information. His degree and wealth of knowledge, wisdom, and understanding of key facts put him in an elite group of thinkers. From that time, from the time where we met in the Court House in downtown Brooklyn, from the time I started really listening to his comments on the Saturday morning NAN broadcasts, etc., and up to this present time, Attorney Harding (a.k.a. Big Mike—not in terms of physical size but big in terms of mental strength, personality, thinking capacity, etc.), I have developed a great appreciation for the knowledge, wisdom, and understanding that comes out of his mouth that provides a challenge to excel even the more.

Pastor Rev. Dr. C. R. Johnson (my foundational teacher)

Just before I was deeply engrossed with the teachings of my pastor, Pastor Emeritus Rev. Dr. Charles B. Dawson, I went to the Tabernacle Bible Institute and sat under the teachings of the late Dr. C.R. Johnson. Never in all my days have I ever met an inspiring teacher (other than Pastor Dawson) as embodied in the later Dr. C. R. Johnson. Dr. C. R. Johnson made the Bible come alive with information, inspiration, revelation, etc.

Pastor Rev. G. T. M. Jones (my secondary personal pastor)

Pastor Jones strongly believes in people doing what they have been asked to do, nothing more and nothing less. He is a stickler for protocol. He is a no-nonsense preacher. He believes strongly in the integrity of the word of God, like my pastor, Pastor Dawson. In fact, Pastor Jones is like a second pastor. If ever I need pastoral advice, and for strange reason, I cannot contact my pastor, I always know that I can count on some good and sound advice from Pastor Jones. There is only one Rev. G. T. M. Jones. (While Pastor Richard Hatcher from the Bethenia Memorial Baptist Church then from Bethesda Baptist Church, Pastor Joe L. Parker from the Wayside Baptist Church, and Pastor John L. Pratt from the Zion Shiloh Baptist Church were my pastoral uncles [for they helped my pastor to watch over me at our Progressive family meetings], Pastor G. T. M. Jones was my second pastor.) Although we did not see each other that often (as much as I saw the other three), I knew that he upheld me in his prayers. Believe me, I know. You can tell when someone is constantly praying for you and have you in their spirit.

Minister Doctor Stephen McGougain (my bestest of brothers)

Doc calls me his Big Bro, and I call him my Big Bro. While Doc is younger than me both in terms of physical and ministerial age, he is, nonetheless, the epidemy of wisdom and sound judgment. I am amazed how powerful this younger man of God is. He has a socially based gospel that makes the word of God come alive in the hearts and minds of his hearers. He will be a great blessing to any congregation that calls him to their pastorate. If I should ever retire from pastoring, I will be visiting the church that he would be the pastor of quite frequently as well as our own beloved Trinity Community Missionary Baptist Church, which the Lord blessed me to organize. That's how much I see into his ministry.

Associate Pastor Rev. Dr. Charles L. Nowell Sr. (my preaching buddy)

His teaching and preaching are second to quite a few. When I am busy doing pastoral things that take me away from his Apologetics and otherwise classes for a few minutes, I feel somewhat annoyed (and a little guilty), for I want to get much of the knowledge, wisdom, and understanding that I can from this mighty man of God, for God has truly gifted him with such spirits gifts/jewels. His preaching is extremely informative. Taken as an interesting combination (his teaching and his preaching), I wonder what would our ministry be like without his impact. He is an integral part of our ministerial process. I thank God for him. I call him and Lady Loretta (my wife) two of the best preachers and teachers of our day; I will put them up against any radio or television preacher and teacher of our day.

    Rev. Al Sharpton

Immediately after Rev. Al organized the National Action Network, I was extremely amazed at the way in which he spoke out against things that I often wondered about. So we marched with him, Alton Maddox, and C. Vernon Mason in virtually all the demonstrations/marches up to the time when I started college. The main one that intrigued me was when we went up to Albany, when Cuomo (the father) was governor, if I remember correctly. Never in my life have I seen the state government shut down because of a group planning to do something like a citizen's arrest. I locked arms with Alton's wife (Leola, if I remember correctly). Sharpton was the first person, I forgot who was second, and I was third that reached the structure in the state capital. Since that time, and others (including but not limited to Bensonhurst, Howard Beach, and Wappingers Falls [the issue with Tawanna Brawley and Steven Pagones]), even up to the present time on the weekly NAN broadcasts, Sharpton has never ceased to amaze me with the issues he raises. I really have not been hearing too many others raising the issues that he has been raising (with few exceptions, like Imhotep Gary Byrd during the Black Experience and Bob Law during the Night Talk). Sharpton gets results when and where few do—good, bad, or indifferent. I commend him (despite the prevailing negativity against him) and will continue to glean those tidbits of knowledge he imparts into people's lives that spark change.

    Others

These are the individuals that have a major impact on my psyche and a major role in my life. However, there are a few other individuals that have a minor impact on my psyche but a major role in my life including but not limited to my son and like-a-son, Bro. Allen Kristopher Hand Jr. and the late Dea. Christopher Anthony Mason, respectively (who were my traveling partners along with my mother to all of the associations, churches, classes, conferences, congresses, conventions, courses, fellowships, funerals, lectures, schools, seminars, symposiums, vacations, weddings, workshops, unions, etc.)—the late Dea. Christopher Anthony Mason was the only person not biologically related to me that ever had a set of keys to my house to come and go where and when he pleased. To all of these and them (major- and minor-impacting individuals), I dedicate this work to them.

Yours in the Service of Jesus the Christ of God (the Godhead),

Pastor Chaplain and Evangelist Rev. Dr. Allen K. Hand Sr.

    Opening Remarks

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. (2 Peter 1:20–21 KJV)

Every once in a while, I get a chance to listen to broadcasts on the radio or watch networking on television. And the more and more I do this, the more and more I get deeply concerned with the quality of so-called religious material presented on such via comments, discussions, lectures, preachings, teachings, etc. Every so often, it is spiritually impressed upon me (I get led) to deal with some of the monumental misunderstandings that menaces the messianic ministry, mission, momentum, motion, motive, and movement. As these pessimistic provocational presentations prevent permeation of positive providential pressure on the profound populace's psyche patterns, I constantly think about the repercussions they have on the spiritual psyche. The Apostle John had a passion against false teachers and false leaders. Here are just a few scriptures that the Apostle John in specific and the whole Bible in general cites:

Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. (1 John 2:18 KJV)

Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. (1 John 2:22 KJV)

And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. (1 John 4:3 KJV)

For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. (2 John 1:7 KJV)

It is very unfortunate that we are letting our guards down and allowing this type of pessimistic provocational presentations to prevent the permeation of positive providential pressure on the profound populace's psyche patterns. There are two strategies/tactics/ways to deal with this type of teaching and preaching: one is defensive and one is offensive. The offensive tactic/strategy/way to guard against it is to constantly teach and preach against it, thereby exposing it for what it is and minimizing it, if not eliminating it—this is referred to as the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; the defensive tactic/strategy/way to guard against it is to block or prevent it from entering your mind by literally putting a spiritual device of some-sort over your mind—this is referred to as the helmet of salvation. This is better understood by reading the following:

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: (Ephesians 6:10–17 KJV)

The material presented in this book is just a way to help us fight defensively and offensively against the pessimistic provocational presentations that prevent permeation of positive providential pressure on the profound populace's psyche patterns.

As we examine the changing religious landscape of our respective communities of faith and conscience, we cannot help to wonder about the causes, nature, and results of said changes. We saw them come and we saw them go. In viewing and analyzing the before and after pictures, I came and am continually coming to the conclusion that we are in serious trouble. The love and passion that our religious order once had is dead (for the most part) and that there is no sight in the immediate future for an era of resurrection. I strongly believe that the religious order of our day has passed the point of no return and because of which our only course of action of our religious order is to enter into the state of apostasy spoken of by and in the word of God.

As a sidenote, the state of apostasy of the professing church is the final stage of the religious order just prior to the Rapture, which is phase one of two of our Christ's Second Coming. What the religious order is and how it differs from the true church of the living God is the subject of this book. How we identify the erroneous and false teachings of this religious order will be discussed later. There are several identifying marks of this religious order in terms of its conversations and dialogues that are an affront to the true teachings of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ. I strongly admonish and request that each believer in Jesus Christ adopt the same attitude and mentality that the church of Berea adopted in the word of God, especially when it comes to the word of God.

In other words, one must think critically of what that one hears and sees, as was discussed in my first book (Dr. Hand's Mind on the Critical Consciousness of the Kairotic Crisis in the Koinonia Community) and demonstrated in my second book (The Inspiration God: The Motion of the Eternal Movement). The third book (Dr. Hand's Mind on the Monumental Misunderstandings that Menances the Messianic Ministry, Mission, Momentum, Motion, Motive, and Movement) attempts to discover and uncover several of those erroneous teachings that plague our communities of faith and conscience and attempts to correct those erroneous teachings that is at the heart of the systematic and systemic destruction and distraction of our religious communities of faith and conscience within our religious order. This fourth book (Dr. Hand's Mind on the Pessimistic Provocational Presentations Preventing Permeation of Positive Providential Pressure on Profound Populace's Psyche Patterns) is a continuation of the third book (and that was a continuation of the first book), which is a collection of articles written to get people to think critically in their life's journey.

    CHAPTER 1

    A Progressive Progressive

I was first introduced to the Progressive National Baptist Convention Inc. (hereinafter referred to as Progressive) back in 1979, when its Eastern Region's Congress of Christian Education was formed. (I remember it like it was yesterday.) Dr. Charles W. Green then of the Pilgrim Baptist Church of Washington, District of Columbia, was the director and Dr. Charles Houston then of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Tuckahoe, New York, was the dean. My pastor, the then Pastor Charles B. Dawson (and now the Pastor Emeritus Dr. Charles B. Dawson) of the Little Rock Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York, took this young lad along with two chaperones and two other youths to its first meeting in Princeton, New Jersey, back in 1979. The meeting was such a grand success that my pastor asked me to come to the national meeting next year.

It was the year 1980 when Progressive met in Chicago, Illinois, when my pastor took this young lad to this national convention. Pastor Dr. William A. Jones (whom I nicknamed Big Bill, given his size and thunderous voice) of the Bethany Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York, was the president. After attending this convention, I realized that there existed a super-powerful church-related socially conscious organization that was unrivaled during that time and that actually was a possible vehicle of a safety-like net for Black America (as we call it) in general and the Black Church in particular. Next year, I looked for Big Bill and did not see him on the stage, so I asked his immediate successor, in the person of Pastor Dr. Ralph W. Canty of the Savannah Grove Baptist Church in Savannah, South Carolina, What happened to Big Bill? He informed me that President Jimmy Carter asked him to fly to Libya to negotiate the releasing of the hostages. (If I recall correctly, among the hostages was Goodman.) The hostage negotiation event, the social platform for the Rev. Dr. Martin L. King, Jr., the contributions to the HBCUs (Historic Black-owned Colleges and Universities), the religious-led social justice outreach, and so many other things that came later further convinced me that Progressive was where I needed to park my interests and talents for that time.

Since then, many presidents (and their administrations) have come and gone and Progressive has continued to accept the clarion call for humanity throughout the years for the least, the lost, and the left-out (basically, the disenfranchised). As with all things made or organized by humans, human ego and slight mismanagement soon overtake the organization and the organization tends to detour slightly from its organized purpose or purposes and get off track in some way, shape, form, for fashion. Progressive was no exception. To name one issue, and without going into too much detail, fiscal accountability (like RAP and GAAP—Regulatory Accounting Principles and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, respectively) was no longer high on Progressive's totem pole of operations (was somehow comprised like most, if not all, other organizations in some point in their existence), which led to operational challenges (again, like most, if not all, other organization in some point in their existence).

But God would not allow Progressive to go to the way of the dinosaurs, given (what I believe) Progressive's commitment and dedication to the will of God; God placed on the hearts and minds of people to come to make Progressive come back to being progressive. Over the years, men and women of God (notice I did not say preachers) contributed to stabilize Progressive, people like Pastor Dr. Johnny R. Youngblood of the St. Paul Community Baptist Church (at the time) in Brooklyn, New York, and of the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York (at the time), led the charge (in the latter stage) to put Progressive back on course of being progressive.

At the time when Dr. Youngblood and others led this charge, I am proud to say that Progressive is indeed remade progressive. Dr. James C. Perkins of the Greater Christ Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan was the president when Progressive completed
