Berg’s access to the world beyond provided her pathways to understand how death works and where life begins, but no matter what Berg learned, Berg realized the answers were like a winding road without conclusions.
Berg’s life as a young girl growing up and how she walks among past souls is a fictional tale that is full of joy, pain, and lessons learned through love, life, and the afterlife.

Bergilinda's Journey - Sherridean Abddeen
Chapter 1
Berg
Once upon a time, there was a little girl with light-brown skin. Her name was Bergilinda Tallus. Everyone called her Berg. She grew up and found out that her life was split between walking among souls that had passed away while she slept and waking up among the living to have a normal life, or so she thought. Although her life seemed strange and oftentimes confusing, Berg was able to live a normal life. Berg set out to search how she got that way!
Berg was a beautiful little girl. She was rather petite with long dark curly hair and light-brown-chocolate smooth skin. It was said that she was a descendant of ancient Indians. Many of the residents of her home country of Arcadia were descendants of ancient Indians and were known to be visionaries or people with special abilities and psychic gifts for seeing the future and communicating with past souls (dead people/spirits). The Arcadians were said to be people who had visions of the past and future and walked among these souls.
Berg was so beautiful her hair would grow long and stretch far beyond her ankles. Her teeth were white as snow when she smiled. Her high cheekbones and perfectly round face made her popular among the Arcadian boys. Berg loved to laugh and make people laugh!
Berg lived with her mom, Celia, and dad, Joe Tallus. Celia and Joe had six children, Berg and her five brothers, Eli, Pato, Lean, Stevie, and Roger. The family lived in the country of Arcadia and on the island of Andros. The family struggled to make ends meet with their big family. They depended on the farm of Berg’s grandparents in Manlaster City in a small town about five miles from Andros Island to stock their store Joe’s Farm Stop. Life in Andros was beautiful, and the family, although having meager means to support themselves, were very happy. They were proud Andros Island residents and lived there their whole lives on Andros Island.
Andros was a large island located in the country of Arcadia. Arcadia was located in the De-Ville Galaxy. It had two moons and lots of small and large islands. Andros was one of the capitals of Arcadia and was one of a chain of many small and large islands in the country of Arcadia. It was surrounded by water and many beautiful oceans. Andros was known for its many beautiful palm trees, pink sand, exotic fish, and beautiful ocean shores. It was always warm in Andros, and winter was only for two weeks. It rained in Andros during the summer months, and at night, there were two moons. The townspeople spoke Arcadian, but many residents spoke various languages and dialects from the surrounding towns.
The residents of Andros were beautiful people with light- and dark-brown skins and blue and yellow-green eyes, and many of them were very tall. They were friendly people who did not venture off Andros Island but instead visited surrounding islands. Berg lived on Andros with her five siblings and her parents in a small house near the beach.
Berg could still remember visiting the beach and running and playing in the sand with her brothers on Saturday mornings. Many visitors would visit Andros Island to enjoy its beautiful beaches and eat its known fish, the conches. The island was large and was considered a city with over one hundred thousand residents. The residents of Andros were proud people, and many were farmers who lived in surrounding islands. The residents in the surrounding islands were very private and barely visited the main city Andros. It was rumored that many of the island’s residents, like the residents of Manlaster City, were psychics and practiced spiritual ceremonies to bring the dead back to life.
Berg’s grandparents Fanny and Dan Brownstein lived in Manlaster City, Andros. Manlaster City was a small farm town in the country of Arcadia and the city of Andros. Many of the residents of Manlaster City were tobacco, pig, and goat farmers. The farmers would sell their farm products at the Andros Island Farmer’s Market. The Andros Island Farmer’s Market was the largest on the island, and everyone sold their farm products at the market.
Joe and Celia would participate in open weekend markets where everyone from neighboring towns would sell their farm products. Berg’s parents were descendants of tobacco farmers, but they were not farmers. They owned a small store called the Dan’s Farm Store. They sold products from the farm of Berg’s grandparents. Berg’s grandparents sold pig and goat meats, tobacco products, and vegetables.
Berg was very happy with her parents, but all that changed the night Berg’s father, Joe, was killed in a local bar. Joe was shot by a man wearing a mask.
The man walked into the bar and asked, Who is Joe?
And Joe responded, I am.
The man shot Joe and left the bar. Everyone in the bar was frightened and shocked at what they had seen. The bartender Jessie attempted to help Joe, but he died on the scene. Joe succumbed to his injuries and bled out in the bar.
The sudden death of Joe left everyone puzzled and sad. Joe was loved by everyone in Manlaster City. Joe was considered a happy person, who worked hard and took care of his family.
The day Berg’s father died seemed strange to her, and for years, she was bothered by the events that took place the day her father died. And that day continued to replay over in her mind forty years later. It was as though Joe was in two places at the same time. While Joe was being murdered in the bar, he was also able to talk to Berg and gave her a package to give to her mom.
On the day Joe died, he told Berg and her mom, Today is the last day you will see me.
And although that seemed strange, Berg’s mom dismissed his claim and kissed him goodbye, and Joe left for work. Joe came home from work and cooked dinner. He played his favorite game palacios
with Berg and Celia. A few hours later, Joe left to visit the local bar Tipo where he played dominos with his friends Logan and Ezra. This was a typical Friday night for Joe, but this was the last time Berg would be with her dad ever again.
Berg always wondered how her dad could speak with her and, a few minutes later, the news of his death came from a neighbor. Berg was never able to answer her question, and she was left confused. No one was ever charged for Joe’s murder. There were many rumors why Joe died, and the most notable rumor was that someone wanted Joe to sell his store and he refused.
