About this ebook
"It was two years ago and we are such good friends now. It just seems we have always been that way. I never really think about how it all came to be." Megan had no idea that her special gift would hold such significance, but to a distant and angered Jonathan, it would change everything. A Special Gift is a touching wholesome story set back in the late 1800's, but filled with biblical truths and valuable life lessons that are still applicable to our youth today. Follow along on Megan and Jonathan's life-changing journey of personal challenges, entertaining mishaps, and growing friendships to the heartfelt ending that will leave you wanting more. See how God's promise to his people was not to spare them from difficult times that come to pass, but to be there with them when they do. For God is always with us, sometimes in ways we would have never even imagined. ***Kennedy Krieger Institute and Hope Road Nicaragua will each receive a 25% contribution from the sale of each book***

About the Author
For my daughter, Sierra, who is indeed my most special gift
God has blessed me with. I love you and am so proud of you. God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of strength, of love, and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7
A Special Gift – 1
It was a sunny day in June, warm and bright like many which came before, yet for a twelve-year-old girl named Megan Ember, it would be the beginning of a journey. A journey God had not just for Megan’s life, but for another person’s too. For God’s promise to his people was not to spare them from difficult times that come to pass, but to be there with them when they do. God is always with us, sometimes in ways we would have never even imagined.
Megan was the happiest girl you could find, full of imagination and spirit. She had a way of seeing just how special all things were. Ever since she was a little girl, the simplest things that are so regularly taken for granted each day by others, would bring joy and a smile to Megan. Today was no different.
Megan had awakened to a bright beam of sunlight that was shining through her window, but she didn’t mind. With a stretch, she got out of bed and walked straight toward her window. Opening it up, Megan peaked her head out. She shut her eyes and felt the warm stillness of the air. It was going to be a beautiful day.
Megan quickly put on her dress and shoes. Her dress was nothing fancy, her mother made most of her clothes. They didn’t have a lot of money, so plain and practical was best. Megan walked over to her mirror for a quick glance and to brush her hair. She was a pretty girl. Megan had blonde shoulder-length hair with a little wave to it, just enough to compliment her heart-shaped face. She had high cheekbones with the biggest and most beautiful blue eyes you have ever seen.
Megan ran downstairs, but didn’t even stop for breakfast. She was too excited to go outside and embrace the day. The screen door shut with a bang. Megan jumped off the porch and ran toward the back gate. You see, just outside her backyard was a trail that led to her most cherished retreat. She stumbled upon it when she was five and full of imagination. At that very first glance, her mind went soaring. Giant trees with trunks that were carved. Megan knew they had stories waiting to be shared. Around all the trees were flowers, a carpet of flowers with a rainbow of colors that covered the ground. On days when a gentle breeze blew, the air filled with such a sweet smell; then there was the music. Maybe it was the birds, whose song she would twirl
