Introduction
The purpose of this book is to build up the body of Christ into their high calling in Christ. Each believer needs to understand their calling in Christ and come into the fullness of Christ to fulfill God’s destiny for their lives. Each believer is a unique creation in Christ Jesus to fulfill a specific work. God wants them to understand their uniqueness in the body of Christ so each believer uses their gifts and the anointing they have received from the Holy Spirit to accomplish God’s will on earth. God’s desire is to release His vision into the hearts of the believers to build and encourage and lift them into their calling in Christ so He can show forth His glory through the body of Christ to demonstrate His love and presence and power to the world.
God wants to bring the body of Christ into a place of great fruitfulness, power, and authority to display His glory on the earth. As each believer understands their uniqueness and their part in the body of Christ, they will have the faith to step into their God-given calling to fulfill God’s will on earth. The vision of God for the body of Christ includes each believer regardless of age, education, race, gender, or talents. They stand as a unique creation in Christ for good works, which God has prepared beforehand for them to accomplish before the return of Christ. God is pouring out a revelation of His love for the body of Christ so each member of the body knows their value and understands God’s plans for their lives. These are plans of great fruitfulness in the kingdom of God to carry His presence to see lives touched and changed by the power of God that resides in each believer. The very power that raised Jesus from the dead resides in each believer to accomplish God’s work on earth. Holy Spirit will fill you with wisdom, gifts, and anointing to fulfill your destiny in Christ.
Each chapter is like a building block to build the believer up into Christ. They are simple instructions showing how to develop Christlikeness and come into the knowledge of His kingdom and operate in the freedom of Christ. May God use this book to build you up into your calling to fulfill your destiny in Christ.
Part I
To Develop the Christlikeness in the Believer
1
New Creation
It is God’s desire to bring the body of Christ to a place of true revelation of God and to understand their inheritance they have in Christ. We have a great inheritance which Jesus purchased for us on the cross. Many in the body of Christ lacks the understanding of who they are in Christ and the inheritance they have as the children of God. Many lack the knowledge in what took place when they received salvation. To many believers, salvation means that their sins are forgiven and they have received eternal life and when they die they go to heaven. Even though that is the most glorious and the essential part of our salvation, there are many other benefits that came with salvation. In this chapter, we will look into an important aspect of our great inheritance in Christ. This is what the Bible calls the new creation. Each believer becomes a new creation in Christ with the nature and the life of God when they receive Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV), "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come."
This means when a person receives Jesus as their Savior, the person becomes a new person on the inside in their spirit man. The spirit that was separated from God as a result of sin is once again recreated as a new creation with the nature of God. Therefore, the old ways are gone, and new life, which is the life of God, begins to operate in their lives. The new creation has been freed from the power of sin; therefore, they are free from the old sinful nature, and they have the freedom to walk in the right ways of God. As a result, their lives begin to change from the inside out.
Jesus said in John 3:3, "Unless a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." The fallen sinful man needs to be recreated in the inner man to enter the kingdom of God. Sin separated man from God; therefore, he needs to be born of God to reestablish his relationship with God. At that moment, the person dies to his old nature and receives the nature of God. He has become a new creation on the inside with the nature of God, and from that point on, he has the ability to know God and grow in his relationship with God and be changed into the image of Christ and become mature to fulfill his destiny in Christ.
Ephesians 1:18–19 speaks of the glorious inheritance and His incomparably great power that has been given to the new creation. God has invested Himself in the new creation by giving us an inheritance that we can draw from. In this inheritance, there are spiritual blessings, physical blessings, and financial and material blessings so we could draw everything we need to become all that God desires. He has empowered the new creation with the same power that raised Jesus from the dead so we can do His works on earth. Furthermore, the new creation has been made to sit in heavenly realms in Christ (Ep.2:6) to display Christ on earth. Therefore, God expects us to draw from our inheritance and the power He has given us to carry out His purposes to demonstrate His kingdom on earth.
Ephesians 2:10, "For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
Each believer is a masterpiece of God created in Christ to do good works, which God has prepared in advance. God has a specific work for each believer in Christ to fulfill on earth. The new creation carries the vision of God’s purpose for that believer. As they pursue that vision, they begin to fulfill their calling in Christ to glorify God on the earth.
He has saved you to be His instrument on earth to build His kingdom. He takes delight in those who are totally surrendered to His will and fully submitted to His Word and His Spirit. Those who give His Word the first place in their lives will be brought into a deeper relationship and maturity. They will be given the wisdom and the revelation knowledge to grow in Christ and understand the principles of the kingdom of God and His will for their lives. The word of God and the Spirit of God will continue to bring change as they walk in obedience to His will. His will for us is revealed through His Word and His Spirit.
The new creation has the ability to hear God in their spirit. Our Heavenly Father desires to communicate with His children to show us His will and to direct our paths. Yet many believers have not come into a place of hearing from God to know His will for their lives. The reason is they have not given time to learn the Word and spend time in prayer. Therefore, they do not know how to recognize His voice. Jesus said, "My sheep know my voice" (John 10:27). The success of your spiritual walk depends on your ability to hear from God.
God in these end-times is calling His people to draw near to Him by seeking Him with all their hearts. You as a believer have the ability to carry the presence of Christ and bring the freedom of Christ to others. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil and bring freedom. Therefore, as a new creation, you have the power to carry the message of freedom to others. As you grow in Christ, you will have the anointing and the wisdom to minister freedom to others. He will give you the gifts and the power of the Holy Spirit to minister to others at the right time so they can be free. It will be Christ working through you to accomplish His will. He made us new creations so He can live through us to carry out His works on earth.
The new creation also has the ability to have an intimate relationship with God. Holy Spirit releases revelation knowledge to know God. The more you know Him, the more you will fall in love with Him. Therefore, your focus will be on God, and your desire will be to please Him with your life. Your attitudes, thoughts, and desires will line up with His ways. You’ll begin to operate in the mind of Christ. Therefore, you will no longer think and act like the old self but be transformed into the image of Christ to display the glory of God, so the world will have a clear demonstration of God’s presence through you. The fruit of the Holy Spirit is in the new creation, yet it may not be seen on the outside until the believer begins to grow in Christ.
The new creation on the inside of every believer has the capacity to grow into Christ because they have the spiritual DNA of Christ in them. They are not trying to become like Christ in their human strength, but as they submit to the Word of God and the Holy Spirit, they will be brought into that place of maturity and great fruitfulness in Christ.
Jesus said, "If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me" (Luke 9:23).
In order for us to grow in Christ, we need to crucify our flesh. Because our flesh [the nature of the old man, we all used to be] is contrary to the new creation. Picking up our cross daily means to lay down the old nature and the attitudes of the old man, which are contrary to the nature and the attributes of Christ. The more we lay down our old man and die to our old ways, the image of Christ in the new creation begins to surface and be seen on the outside. It is imperative that each believer understands this vital spiritual principle of crucifying the flesh daily. Our flesh was marred by sin; therefore, nothing in the old self could please God. That’s the reason God made us a new creation in Christ; only the new creation can grow up into Christ and bring forth fruit that is pleasing to God.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
(Rom. 12:1–2, KJV)
This is how we grow in Christ. We are to deny ourselves and present our bodies to God as a living sacrifice. The new creation has the ability to be Christlike. This transformation takes time, and God is patient and gently guides the believer through this process as they fully surrender their lives into His loving hands.
Never question His wisdom or His ability, but trust Him fully. Even when the road to that transformation is hard and full of challenges, keep on trusting Him. Nothing you go through is wasted. He will use for your own good every heartache, every trial, every valley you walk through to bring you to the place of being mature in Christ. You will never regret taking that path He sets before you. He will always be there with you in every situation, leading and guiding you through the storms of life and bring you into your calling in Christ to fulfill your destiny in Christ.
Romans 8:28 (KJV), "We know that all things work together for good to them that love God and who are called according to His purpose."
As you go through the process of transformation, you will understand His unfailing love for you and His unchanging character and His faithfulness. You will come to a place of knowing Him as your Father, your very present help in trouble and your best friend. The joy and the peace that will flood your soul will not be compared to any earthly riches. You will have a deep revelation of His love for you, and as a result, you will draw near to Him even more and desire Him even more. You will know nothing can separate you from His love. Therefore, you will become secure in your relationship with Him and grow in your faith so you can be victorious in every situation because you believe that with God all things are possible. Your life will go from victory to victory, and nothing could keep you down, but you will rise up into greater realms of faith and trust in God to become a more than a conqueror in Christ. The new creation was designed to walk as more than a conqueror. The faith of God in the new man gives the boldness to stand immovable in the hard times to receive the victory.
The new creation has the ability to walk in complete freedom in every area of their being, (spirit, soul, and body). It is God’s desire to bring each believer to a place of complete freedom and take that message of freedom to others. When Christ died on the cross, He paid the price fully for your freedom so you can walk free from sin, sickness, mental distress, habits, anger, hatred, poverty, and all manner of dysfunction known to mankind which came as a result of sin. These are the benefits of being a new creation.
As a new creation, you can walk and be controlled by the peace of God. The new man has the ability to walk in every situation in God’s peace so he is not moved by the storms of life. God’s peace will guard his mind and his heart in every situation so he can remain immovable and stand firm in the storms of life until God gives him the victory. This peace is resident in the new creation. In order to walk in His peace, we need to be led by the Holy Spirit. Those who fail to walk in obedience to His word and His Spirit cannot maintain that peace in their hearts; therefore, they are anxious and troubled. Whenever a believer is in that place, they need to repent of sin and disobedience and ask for forgiveness so the peace can be restored back in their hearts.
The new creation is designed to walk in God’s peace at all times so they can maintain a deep abiding fellowship with the Lord. This will bring them into the place of maturity and fruitfulness. We are to live and move and have our being in Him who is our peace. He is the Prince of Peace. God created us to operate in His peace, yet because of sin, mankind lost that peace. But Jesus came and restored the peace. Therefore, as new creations, we can walk in His peace. God is calling His people to come into this knowledge of walking in His peace so they can carry His message of peace and reconciliation to a lost and a troubled world.
Prophetic vision for the body of Christ
In these end-times, God’s vision for the body of Christ is to bring them to a place of being transformed into the image of Christ so they can be mature believers in Christ to fulfill God’s will. God will take these believers and build them up in Christ and equip them and strengthen them and bring them into their calling in Christ. Each believer is chosen and called by God to do a specific work in His kingdom. Each believer is a unique creation in Christ to do good works that God has preplanned.
God wants to reach this world through His believers who are firmly rooted in His word and walking in obedience to His will. These believers have an intimate relationship with God. They know their calling and understand God’s timing. Those who live and abide in God understand both. They know His voice and heeds to His voice. Therefore, they live in the cutting edge of God’s will for their lives.
They have great faith to believe for the impossible. They never retreat or give up in battle, but they are strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. They are mighty warriors in the spirit realm as they use their authority in Christ against the devil and his kingdom to establish God’s will on earth. They live in victory going from victory to victory. They have the ability to know the mind of Christ and carry out His will on earth.
All of heaven is watching the end-time church as they come into this place of maturity and fullness of Christ to display the glorious risen Christ to this fallen world. The world will have a clear demonstration of the power of the risen Christ through His church. God calls and prepares each vessel to carry Christ to the world. Many will come out of darkness into His marvelous light as these believers take the message of hope to the world.
All of heaven and those who have gone before us are waiting eagerly to see the body of Christ come into this realm. They are cheering us on, as we fulfill God’s plans for these end-times and hasten the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
As new creations, this is our destiny.
2
How to Walk in the Spirit
One of the most important aspects of our Christian life is to learn how to walk in the Spirit. It is a mark of maturity in Christ. Many in the body of Christ lack the knowledge of how to develop the Spirit walk. When the believers walk in the Spirit, they reflect Christ to the world. God wants the body of Christ to be a powerful witness for Him in these end-times. It is imperative that we develop a lifestyle of walking in the Spirit. God’s desire is that every member of the body of Christ learns how to walk in the Spirit.
So what is the Spirit walk? It is a life that is totally led by the Holy Spirit that becomes an extension of Jesus on this earth. When we walk in the Spirit, we allow the Holy Spirit to lead and direct our thoughts, our actions, and our words to align with His will. This is a lifestyle we grow into as we obey the Word of God. The Word shows us how to develop the Spirit walk. When you decide to read and study the Word and obey the truth, you will come into this place of walking in the Spirit. It will happen slowly but persist in your walk, and you’ll see the transformation in your life.
I say live by the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.
(Gal. 5:16–18, NIV)
This is what most believers struggle with. In their hearts, they want to do the right thing, yet their sinful nature wants to have its own way. There is a conflict between your born-again spirit and your sinful nature. Your spirit wants to do God’s will, yet your sinful nature wants your will. This struggle continues until you bring your sinful nature to submit to the Word of God.
What is the sinful nature? It’s the nature Adam received when he disobeyed God. It is the nature of the fallen man.
Adam was created in God’s image. Therefore he had God’s nature and character on the inside. Since God is love, Adam had the love nature in him. God’s love is free from all selfishness; therefore, Adam had that same quality. He was holy and walked in the light as God is light. There was no sin or darkness found in him when he was created. Adam had unbroken fellowship with God. His spirit man had the ability to commune with God and walk in God’s wisdom. He was free from fear, guilt, shame, anger, and all the negative attitudes and emotions known to man. He was perfect until he disobeyed and sinned against God.
Adam chose to obey the lie of Satan rather than the Word of God. At that moment, his spirit was separated from God, and he received the nature of Satan. This is the nature that is called the sinful nature or the flesh or the carnal man or the fallen nature. This nature is totally contrary to the nature of God. Ever since that time every human being born has this fallen nature in them. Attributes of this sinful nature is rooted in selfishness and self-centeredness and pride. This is the nature of Satan. You can clearly see these characteristics of Satan in the following scriptures.
How have you fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the most High." (Is. 14: 12–14, NIV)
These scriptures speak of Satan. He is referred as the morning star. This was before he lost his place in heaven. These scriptures reveal his thoughts. We see the words I will
five times. This is a nature that elevates itself above God. It is a nature that seeks its own selfish desires rather than God’s will. It is a nature that is rooted in self that brings about rebellion against God. It’s a nature that gives no regard to how it may affect others. Satan chose his own will over the will of God for his life. God had a beautiful plan for Satan as a guardian angel, but he forfeited it all when he desired to do his will and lost his place in heaven forever.
When Adam sinned, he received this same prideful, self-centered rebellious nature. As a result, all that are born have the same nature. Isaiah 53:6 says we all, like sheep, have gone astray each of us has turned to his own way. This is the sinful nature of the fallen man. The good news is Jesus has come to set us free from the sinful nature. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are born of God as a new creation with the nature of God. However, in order for this new nature to be fully seen on the outside, each believer needs to walk in the Spirit. When we get saved, we receive the Holy Spirit into our spirit. Therefore, our spirit desires to obey God, yet our flesh wants its way.
So how do we overcome this struggle?
Galatians 5:24 (NIV), "Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires."
This is how we walk in the Spirit. Every time you tell no to your flesh and choose to walk in the Spirit, you are crucifying your sinful nature. The less you give into your flesh or your sinful nature,
