Ordinary Reflections from Here, There, and God's Word
()
About this ebook
In our daily routine, God often places responses and directions for us in ways we believe provide needed answers for whatever that is or will be there for us to deal with. Those very words heard or read are often from something or someone nearby, during our personal and regular activities or situation, sharing needed encouragement, direction, or some type of help for any future issue that may arrive. And yes, of course, God does provide answers with direction or loving blessings specifically for us straight from His Word.
Take time in each daily reading of Ordinary Reflections from Here, There, and God's Word to reflect on them. Each one comes from the basic and ordinariness that's all around us, or even straight from one's own life, as well as from the Bible. This book includes a scripture verse beginning each day's reading and then concludes with a brief prayer. Do be blessed as you read, meditate, and receive what the Lord has for you.

About the Author
Preface
Within these pages, you may find a few devotionals that seem to be repeated. That's fine. Scripture has many verses of God's right-on words carried over for the reader's benefit, His specific designed reruns. When read and found to be personalized, God's message will have made its mark.
Note more than one case in point:
In Psalm 42:5 and verse 11, as well as in 43:5, God repeats one of His promises not twice but three times.
Peter's dream and ministry/outreach recorded in Acts 10 were found to be repeated in the following chapter 11.
Also, Psalm 57:5 in the King James Version (KJV) is an exact repeat in verse 11.
We all tend to forget and need gentle reminders. Enjoy each possible recap and receive.
All scripture used at the top of each one of these devotionals, or within the body of a few, is self-paraphrased via the Living Bible and the King James Version. Be blessed.
In summary:
Repetitive—no
Similar—maybe
Glean—for this and future moments
Use—for daily activities and relationships
Trust—for eternal values

Yes, much is waiting to be learned, seen, known, and take place in this new year. It or they will bring forth laughter or tears beyond what can be imagined or understood. Within it all, God remains faithful.
Dear Lord, thank You for this new year. It is filled with pristine abilities and wonderful renewals of the many losses. Whatever it may hold for me, You are there. Amen.
January 2
Daily Living
I will…live a life that declares the truths of the Lord.
—Psalm 118:17
It is not the number of days we live but the type of life we live in our days that wear a worthwhile value. We have been given many days. But a lot of them are now gone, far past in our yesterday, never to be retrieved.
Yet we have this day to live and be a true and faithful Christian witness of our Lord.
This moment is a giant opportunity to live for the whatever, wherever, and whoever we encounter.
Our actions or words of response should pour out kindness, warmth, and a smile with approving gestures. That impression will never again be ours. In this now, we can somehow make a difference for eternity in others, if we reflect the Jesus that lives in us.
We must never overlook today. It is allotted to us, never to be repeated. Check back on our previous days. How have they been lived? How were they expressed to people we met by chance? Schedule or an appointment? Do those memories please us?
Don't just reach out for the preplanned hope-filled biggie witness to be done at some grand time or location. It's in this today, right where we are, that makes a difference in the lives of others. People are there watching us live our lives. May Christ be able to use us at such times.
Dear Lord, starting this day, I want to live for You here, there, and everywhere. Amen.
January 3
Faithfulness
A faithful person…did the promise.
—Proverbs 14:5; 2 Chronicles 34:12
No one appreciates people who walk away from the need we assumed they would care about. After all, they had expressed a concern.
What we presumed they would do and what actually happened didn't equal. Faithful would not describe them. Instead, they brought disappointment, displayed unkind reaction, or showed preference to be elsewhere. These ones didn't respond as expected.
May whatever in them failed to be a Christlike representation be not spoken of us. Do we or have we overlooked, forgotten, or substituted our planned in response for another interest?
God heard what we first said we would do and saw what we actually did.
He wants faithfulness. If we say it, we do it. If we promise, we come through. If we don't want to, we say, No, thank you.
But be honest in conversation, behavior, and time.
God wants a faithful witness responsible in agreement and work as unto Him. Whether it's that family member, some friend, those acquaintances, or now which neighbor would that be or an unkempt stranger, we are to be helpful. If the deed is minor in size and price or time-consuming and expensive, we remain faithful.
God is aware of our attitudes before they're expressed. Were they done in genuine Christian love? What rate of faithfulness would the scale of our doing expose? God will repay us the same amount we displayed to others.
Dear Lord, I want to come through on everything I said I will do. I want to be known as faithful. Amen.
January 4
Undo, Redo, to Do
There is an arrangement, I believe, would work better for me.
—Proverbs 14:12 and 16:25
My husband and I have a Lhasa Apso we named Cuddles. This medium-sized dog has been heavily spoiled. He loves to be wherever we are. To please this little boy, we've provided a number of pillows for his comfort.
Yes, he likes to sit on the furniture but does enjoy his pillows. He will cozy down into the shape of a donut or stretch himself out on his personal pillows.
Then this independent Cuddles bounces up and turns around with an abrupt intent to undo the pillow's comfort. Pawing with all earnestness, he attempts to redo the pillow's fluffiness.
But this stubborn pillow won't change its shape no matter how hard the dog works at it. The pillow is designed into its permanency. In time, Cuddles gives up and settles into what was already there.
We, as well, strive to undo and redo what the Lord has given. After our educated, qualified, and dignified efforts are applied, we learn God's original plans are best fitting for us.
No matter how sincere the efforts, God has a better idea. We need to accept His will and settle into His provision. It out-cushions any other self-arrangement we attempt to do, no matter how determined we try.
Dear Lord, I must undo my thoughts to redo my ideas and to do it Your way, the best way. Amen.
January 5
Don't Look Back
Do not turn around.
—Genesis 19:17
The squirrel approached the middle of the road. We were driving and saw the animal, and we slowed for it. But the squirrel changed its mind, looked back, turned around, and aimed for the area just left. He didn't make it.
Mr. Bird hit our windshield. This beautiful but now dead bird changed his mind. He might have mistook the correct direction and used his own idea of what's best for me
and lost.
Then there was the black mole in a road ditch. This know-it-all rodent yielded to temptation. He came upon an empty bottle. It smelled good. So the mole entered the bottle to taste what he thought he smelled. But he got all bottled up.
Mr. Mole didn't continue his route. Instead, he turned around and looked back.
That decision proved to be deadly.
The Bible reports in Genesis 19:1–29 of one don't look back
attitude.
Destruction was coming to Mr. and Mrs. Lot's hometown. God sent an angel to inform the Lot family so they could escape.
Reluctantly, Mrs. Lot left all her stuff at her husband's insistence. But her heart was back there, and she wanted one last look. And it was. Instantly, she became a pillar of salt. She was the loser for looking back.
When God says go, we go. When He says no, we stop. Obedience brings life.
Looking back brings regret.
Dear Lord, I can't afford to ignore Your leading or my desire to retreating. Your will brings best. My will brings loss. Amen.
January 6
If It Was Different, We Wouldn't Be
In Your book I was written…before I was.
—Psalm 139:16
We have parents. They're here because of their parents, and the same goes from grandparents to the great-grandparents generations back.
We've had passing thoughts of I could've married or had that person over there. That particular one did grab my attention. We had a conversation but didn't connect. I chose the one I've got.
What would my life have been like if I had gone with that other person? He or she might have brought more financial benefits, public notice, better-looking or behaving children, a bigger house in a nicer neighborhood, or maybe not. If we had gotten the one that got away, our lives would be different today.
We are what God ordained us to be.
What about the if in our heritage? If those moms and dads had married differently, they would have had other offspring and made us nonexistent.
It took each of them to make the generation that continued on to us, and here we are, because of the mom and dad we have. Any changes along the way, we wouldn't be.
We're meant to be who we are because God chose us to be so. We're His idea and design. He knew best and made us to give Him praise and tell others of His eternal love.
Dear Lord, I'm here because You wanted me to be. I want to live my life telling others about You that loves them, exactly as they are, because You chose for them to be here too. Amen.

Unnoticed
God does not see as man sees; people look at the physical appearance, but the God sees the heart.
—1 Samuel 16:7
God told Samuel to go to Jesse's house and anoint one of his sons to replace King Saul. In so doing, Samuel presumed to find a tall, dark, and handsome individual for Israel's new king. That's the very description God had chosen in King Saul.
Good looks proved little value in King Saul's short and troublesome reign. Samuel followed God's directive to Jesse. One of his sons would become king.
Samuel watched Jesse's many sons pass by him. God kept saying, No, not this one.
There were no more sons in the house.
Then Jesse remembered his youngest son. David was out in the field doing an unappreciated and uncomplimentary job—taking care of the sheep.
David was almost forgotten by his own father, but not by his Heavenly Father. God knew David and where he was. And he was aware of the ordinariness of his job. David did not pass the physical appearance King Saul wore, but David was God's choice. David had not gone unnoticed.
God had His eye on David all the time. God knew David's size, shape, and hair color, but it was the condition of David's heart that made the difference—a pure heart.
Dear Lord, my life is ordinary to people, but not to You. Take me and use me just as I am, with my clean heart and unnoticed abilities. Amen.

No Excuse
And he said, Who are You, Lord?
—Acts 9:5
Saul of Tarsus was intelligent, well educated, and professionally certain he knew best.
This scholar had no difficulty impressing and influencing people in his religious culture.
But a problem was growing. It was a new religion, which he was certain was false.
Its believers Antioch labeled Christians (Acts 11:26). Saul meant to stamp them out.
His way, his understanding, his training was the only way. It was his way or no way. And Saul planned to get these Christians out of his way and everyone's way. After all, people were listening to these Christians, being converted, and they, too, were telling others. Saul of Tarsus meant to eliminate them all.
So he traveled here and there, threatening men, women, and even children to imprisonment and slaughter.
But on one of those trips, a blinding light from heaven knocked him off his high horse. Saul fell to the ground.
Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?
a voice said.
Immediately, Saul knew who was talking to him. In an instant, this Saul of Tarsus realized the error of his anti-Christian actions. No long theological argument was needed. Without question, Saul realized he was talking to Jesus. And those Christians had also met this Jesus. He truly was (is) the only way.
This was no mere inspiration to Saul. He had recognized Jesus and knew He was the promised Messiah. Thus Saul had no excuse for his menacing intentions.
Dear Lord, as he was without excuse, neither am I. I will accept the truth of Jesus just as this Saul of Tarsus did. Amen.

The Sauls
Obey better than sacrifice.
—1 Samuel 15:22
Blinded to sight.
—Acts 9:9, 18
We read of the Old Testament Saul in 1 Kings 9. His biography grew into many chapters.
