Cleo rubbed the sleep out of her eyes and tried to think. Something important was happening today. If she could only remember. She scrunched up her face and thought. She yawned and stretched, then she heard James downstairs. Now she remembered!
She raced for the stairs taking them two at once and skidding into the kitchen in time to see James bringing the pancakes to the table. Today was special. She was finally nine years old. James had promised all year that when she turned nine, he’d take her to a fair.
Come and eat,
he said. We have to get ready. There’s a lot of neat stuff to see at a Renaissance Faire and some of it only happens in the morning.
Renaissance Faire? What is a Renaissance Faire? Cleo wondered.
She stood still and waited for him to tell her more, but he just gave her a sly grin. Ha! You want to know more, but I’m not going to tell you. I want it to be a surprise. Eat your pancakes, and get dressed.
