About this ebook

Something very strange starts happening in Nightshade the summer that the eldest Giordano sister, Rose, gets a job working at Dr. Franken's research laboratory. People are starting to see double. Doppelgängers of Nightshade residents are popping up all over town. Daisy, Rose and Poppy think it's a coincidence, until the rumors start that their father, who disappeared several years ago, has been spotted in town. Meanwhile, Daisy's beau, Ryan is spending all of his time training for football, and like the other guys on the team, he's grown enormous almost overnight. Samantha Devereux's boyfriend's neck has doubled in size since school ended. Could the football players be resorting to extreme measures to win? Between summer jobs, sugar rushes, and beach parties, the Giordano girls get to the bottom of these mysteries and more.

I am enjoying this series a lot. This one has us back in Nightshade and more paranormal activity happens. The Giordano family return from vacation and have some excitement once they return. This book is the 3rd in the series and I am loving as much as I have the other 2 books I have read. I will be looking for more in this series at my library.

These books are so much fun. This time we have more hairy werewolf excitement and Daisy and her sisters are facing a new threat-- dopplegangers. I enjoy this quick reads. The sisters are so much fun and the high school setting is pretty realistic for a magical town. The topic of bullying is covered in this book and it is handled very well. These books are suitable for teens and tweens.

Mom Giordano had taken the Giordano women Daisy, Rose, Poppy and Grandma to Italy for a surprise vacation and the girls had returned with Grandma leaving mom in Italy on continuing business. The girls are staying by themselves in Nightshade with Grandma checking in once or twice a week. Poppy had recently broken up with her first serious boyfriend, a ghost, and had been moping around the graveyard instead of celebrating her recent graduation from Nightshade High. Rose had a research job at the local college with Dr. Franklin who was studying genetics. Poppy was working part time at a concession on the beach. Daisy was interviewing at Slim's, an old time diner and hang out for the High School crowd. She loved to cook and hoped to become a Chef once she finished High School. Her boyfriend and Samantha's, her best friend, were on the football team. Nightshade had a secret, it was a refuge for a large number of extraordinary individuals, "weres" (Daisy's boyfriend, Ryan, is a recently turned werewolf), invisible's (Slim, the owner of the diner is one), witches and the Giordano's who exhibited psychic abilities (the girls mother worked as a psychic detective and frequently assisted the Nightshade police department). Things turned strange shortly after the girls return from Italy. A pack of young werewolfs chased the girls and they narrowly escaped. Dopplegangers started appearing around town, duplicates of members of the police department, the girls missing father, the school principal and numerous others. They were evident by their lust for sugar. The girls and their boyfriends started to investigate while dealing with the angst of being teenagers in love. Their activities are entertaining and of course, the good side wins out. Not deep but, fun!

As with the previous book, character development seems to be one of Perez's strong suits, along with snappy dialogue. I quite enjoyed this installment.

Another light teen read in this series. There is enough suspense within the story to leave the ending unknown and make me want to finish the book. The series still lacks on character development, even in book 3, I wish I felt more or cared more about any of the characters, particularly Daisy, whom we follow throughout the series. There isn’t enough of an emotional connection to her as I would like. The sugar-high doppelgangers of Nightshade are an interesting twist to the usual paranormal stories, but there isn’t enough of an explanation as to “why” once we are clued into what’s going on. A new character is introduced in this book and it’s hard to understand why we are just finding out about him now, as he’s been part of Nightshade for quite some time, it tends to cheapen the experience, finding an easy way out of the storyline, which was a disappointment. It’s a quick, easy, read, so I wasn’t too upset with my time invested in it.

I have to admit I really enjoy this series! Marlene Perez has created such a cute, campy series that is appropriate for even young, young adults and still manages to be fun and entertaining for the oldest of us young adults. One reason that I like this series so much is because it makes me laugh, and I just love Daisy and her sisters. Daisy's reaction to seeing Ryan after she's been gone all summer is hilarious. Dead Is Just a Rumor is coming out in a few days and I'm really looking forward to seeing what troubles hit Daisy this time. If you haven't started reading this series yet, you should! It's a good time.

There is one big negative to Marlene Perez's "Dead Is" series. The fact that the books are so darn short! The books catch you with the wonderful, vibrant and oddball characters...(my favorites include the Skull, Slim the invisible man, and the jukebox that plays clues). The mysteries are sort of easy to figure out...I usually know what is up before the leading lady Daisy does. Yet getting to the reveal is just so much fun. This is a series that will hook you. The town of Nightshade is brimming with things that go bump in the night...yet the teens are still just like teenagers you'd find anywhere. Shopping, going to movies and football games, and in the next breath, struggling to find out who is infecting the football team and turning them into werewolves. I don't like the fact that Daisy, Poppy and Rose's mom is so frequently gone. If feels like an obvious ruse that allows the girls to do whatever they want without having anyone to face up to. Other than that and the fact the books are short, I would absolutely have to recommend teens (and adults who love YA literature) to pick up this series. It is certainly worth the quick read.

The Giodano sisters are back from a summer vacation in Italy and things in Nightshade are as strange as ever when they get back. The first thing Daisy wants to do when she gets home is see her boyfriend, Ryan. She has missed him and can't wait to get over to his house. Daisy is disappointed to find out that he is at football practice, but heads over to the school anyway. She is very surprised by what she sees. Ryan has really buffed up in the weeks she's been gone and so, it seems, has most of the other football players.Since there are still several weeks left in summer, Daisy decides she should get a job. She notices that Slim's has a Help Wanted sign in the window and with her love of cooking, she feels this would be a perfect fit. After leaving work one evening, she notices someone digging in the dumpster in the alley. Strangely, it appears to be her missing father. After other strange appearances in town, the Nightshade City Council comes to the conclusion that Doppelgangers are on the loose causing havoc in town.Daisy and her sisters have to figure out what is going on in town. Is there something strange causing the football team to get super strong in such a short time? Who is creating the Doppelgangers? Is Mr. Giodano really back or is he a Doppelganger too?DEAD IS SO LAST YEAR is a fun conclusion to a cute trilogy. Marlene Perez has a knack for writing with user-friendly, non-intimidating language. The only drawback is you definitely need to read the trilogy in order. So, readers, take heed - read DEAD IS THE NEW BLACK then DEAD IS A STATE OF MIND and finally DEAD IS SO LAST YEAR.

In this thrilling conclusion the the Dead... trilogy, the psychic Giordano sisters have their family bonds put to the test when Doppelgangers invade nightshade. At first it seems like it might be all in Daisy's head - but then their father, who disappeared years before, is spotted in town. And Rose's boss, Dr. Franken, has been acting strangely. To make matters worse, Daisy's loyal boyfriend Ryan has been exhibiting some bizarre traits, and has gotten suddenly buff! Could it be his training regimen for the football team, or are the high school athletes into something more dangerous than lifting weights? This fun, light series is perfect beach reading if you like things a little supernatural, and Dead Is So Last Year is the perfect wrap-up!
