    INTRODUCTION

This is a message for all who have lost a loved one, whether recently or in the past, and are still suffering and in pain; where that pain is so unbearable you want to die yourself. You feel like giving up on life because there are no answers to your questions, such as Why did this happen? She was so young and a good person. He didn’t deserve to die; he was kind to everyone. Why didn’t it happen to me instead of him or her? These are some of the things you ask yourself. Then you turn to God and ask the big question: Why, God? Why did this have to happen? in your shock and disbelief. Your life will never be the same again because of the loss of your loved one.

I would like to start off by saying if you live long enough you will experience the loss of a loved one--father, mother, spouse, sibling, close relative, close friend, people you know of and encounter daily. Like your neighbors, people at your job, the cashier at the supermarket, the barber, famous people you hear about on the news, and the list goes on. But still by knowing this, it doesn’t take away the hurt, the pain and the emptiness you feel inside from the loss of your loved one. Knowing that death is part of life doesn’t make it one bit easier.

I would like to share a story about a Pearl. She was my wife, and she went home to be with the Lord. I’m a military retiree; I met my wife while stationed in Hawaii. She was a schoolteacher from San Diego, California, on vacation. We knew each other for only nine months and were together for just three of those months before we got married. My wife was a beautiful person, with her warm smile, her kindness and her loving heart. She was an amazing wife to me and our three children; she loved her family. Pearl was my best friend for nearly 38 years, with a zeal for life and a caring soul for all people. Always placing the needs of others before her own, she touched the lives and hearts of all she encountered. Two of the things I admired about her were her positive attitude and her strong drive. She always found the good in everything. Pearl was an encourager, a motivator, and a very good friend to many people. She loved children and always brought out the best in people, because she loved them. Even if someone did something bad to her, she did not hold a grudge against them or seek revenge. My wife just left them alone and loved them from afar. She would say, If you know that dog bites do not go back into that yard again.

She loved stores, shopping, and spending most of her money on people. Almost every other month Pearl would buy at least ten of the same items. We would have discussions about why we needed ten of whatever it was. I would always say to her during our discussions, We are going to be homeless if you keep this up! My wife would reply with a smile on her face, "One’s for the people at the gas station that pumps gas in the car. One’s for our mailman
