About this ebook

Enemies of my family explores the story of a family through the years, passing through different generations. The love between two brothers, George and Patrick, is challenged by Patrick’s decision to marry Linda. Overcome with envy and greed, Linda will repeatedly try to destroy the relationship between the two brothers and to obstruct George’s happiness and success. Her devilish plans will put at risk George’s happiness and family, but he will never lose faith in God.

The story is based on true life events, experienced in first person by the author during his youth. The book is a deep story that explores the most intimate parts of the souls and beliefs of the protagonists, depicting an incessant fight between good and evil.

    ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The reference points in my story book were written and documented based on a true-life event. Some are fiction, but, believe me, most of the events are mainly non-fiction.

    LESSON

The foundation lesson of this story teaches us the following things such as the beauty of sincerity, honesty, humbleness, kindness, consistency, perseverance, focus and endurance. With all these above-mentioned factors in one’s life, he/she must be assured of divine victory at last. What doesn’t kill you will also make you stronger than you were before. The journey of life is full of ups and downs. Therefore, it doesn’t matter how many times you failed at doing something correctly, what matter is this; did you stop at that point, or did you continue the race despite the odds, in order to win the prize? Inasmuch as you have a resistance spirit, then count yourself a chosen one; that no matter how mighty the mountain is, you must climb it to the top. Keep hope alive, you must overcome and also make it to your final destination. Do not live in the past because the past is dead and is only alive based on the life you give to it. If you must make it to your future, you must forget the past and press on to win the prize for which our Lord Jesus Christ took hold of you. So, my dear brothers and sisters, life is not a dream; but living is a dream. Do you have a dream? Make it happen. You are not here to make a living, but to make a difference. You are not here to survive, but to make an impact. Right now, many of you are already close to their destiny, but one thing or the other has struck in to scatter what you have labored so much for. But now here is a prayer for you, and as you pray along with me; God in heaven shall see you through in Jesus’ name Amen. Father Lord, in heaven, I commit all your children into your hand; and as many that have read my book and as many who are about to read now or after, let your mercy, grace and kindness

be upon them so that they will achieve all their heart desire in Jesus most wonderful name I prayed. Amen.

TAKE AWAY WISDOM FOR MY READERS

As long as you live, you must always remember this divine information from God. The purpose of God for the human race, and God created every one of us for a reason. In the family you were born into, there is something that God created for you to accomplish, and you weren’t born into that family by mistake. However, your existence was a divine fulfillment in line with God’s covenant with your family. God created us in eternity, and He took us out from eternity and put us in time to influence our generation. Therefore, God didn’t create us to complain, whine and lament about the devastating state of things in our country, rather God created us to solve problems in our family, village, town, state and nation at large. And to understand this purpose we must set our priorities in order; fix our eyes on God’s vision and pursue our purposes in life. You can’t pursue your purpose to recover, discover, realize and accomplish the divine task of God without protecting your life given currency. What is the life given currency of God? The answer: ‘time’, and God equally gave each and every one of us the same amount of time: 24 hours day. Whether you are indigent or wealthy, it is the result of how you have used your time. Time is used like money, whatever you spend your time on is what you will get in life. If you spend your time on foolish things, you will get witlessness in return. It is quite irresponsible of you to be blaming your parents because they didn’t send you to school or they didn’t train you well or to blame your religion, academic system, political leadership system and all the other systems of the world for violating and abusing you. No system can abuse you in life without your permission. Anything you permit is permitted and anything you forbid is forbidden in life. So, you see; no one can eat your time or waste your time without your consent or permission. To succeed in life, you must protect and defend your time. Whatever you spend your time on, that’s what you bought with your time. Nevertheless, it is time for you to cross check your preference in life and evaluates your dealings in life. You spend time like spending money, but time is greater than money. Time wasted cannot be recovered with money, but money wasted is very simple and easy to recover with time. Money can’t buy you a life, but time does all the time. There is something more tragic and worse than death, and that’s waking up in the morning and not knowing what to do with your 24 hours. The input of your time in life determines your connection, level of wealth, the quality of your life and death. Time wasted leads to self-violation and destructive end. It is time for you to prune your circle and review your network and know who really matters to be in your company. When you spend your time dating a foolish man or woman, and it eventually ends in marriage, do not blame anyone for choosing a wrong spouse or partner, when you start having problems in your marriage, understand that you are the one who foolishly bought that with your time. Time is too precious for you to ever allow anyone to waste it for you, because whatever you are in life whether, broke, rich, healthy, poor, confused, perplexed, bewildered, depressed or happy it is the result of what you bought in return with your time. If a man or woman thinks well, reasons correctly and rightly project so they become in life. Therefore, do not seek success if you are actually so determined to make it in life, rather seek to become a person of value. To become valuable in life, you must redeem your time to increase your volume of productivity. Perhaps, your first priority in life is to discover the kingdom of God and its right position in life. The kingdom of God is the discovering of your purpose of birth, and his righteousness is to be on the right path, track with God for you to succeed in life. The kingdom of His nation building, and those who are future builders, I urge you to read all these for your own benefits: Genesis 1:26-28, Exodus 20:3-17, Matthew 4:17, Mark 10:27-31, Matthew 6:24-33, Proverbs 16:1-4, Proverbs 1:7,  Psalm 37:4-6 &8-10, Psalm 49:1-20, Colossians 3:18-25, Ephesians 3:18-20, 2 Corinthians 4:4, 1 Corinthians 6:9-20, Romans 12:2-8, Romans 9:17-23, Romans 8:1-38 And John 1: 1-13. These above listed scriptural passages alone can help you experience a rebirth. The true essence of being born again is to change completely from your old silly way of life, so the light of God through Jesus Christ as a good role model will shine upon your heart and everything about you will become new.

    Season one

    play one

    Setting:

The story took place in the town of Umuakachukwu, Autonomous Kingdom community.

    Theme:

Enemies of my family displays the power of discrimination, self-hate, ethnic supremacy, victimization, stigmatization, nepotism, injustices and the outburst consequences of a dangerous endless grudge that disorganizes, disorients and turns two brothers into water and oil.

    Act One

    Scene One

(In the town of Umuakachukwu, autonomous Kingdom community, there come two much enviable brothers, whose relationship with one another was very much talked by the people. Moreover, amongst the people of Umuakachukwu, autonomous Kingdom community, Patrick and his brother George were the most hardworking, successful, loveable, peaceful people, and they enjoyed a relatively calm atmosphere with one another until the uncertainty of life, got a hold of them, and the unforeseen took place, and the light comes on)

    George: Good morning, Patrick!

Patrick: Good morning, George. What’s up with you?

George: I am fine, how have you been?

Patrick: It is really good to be alive at this time. I’m very happy for the love, kindness, goodness, protection, provision, health and prosperity which God has totally bestowed upon you and me, since we both lost our parents. It has not been an easy journey for you and me to have accepted things the way our late parents left it to be. And, for this reason, I’m so glad, grateful, and thankful to God. There is still one thing that will make our late parents’ soul be at rest wherever they are in the land of the spirit.

George: Eh!!!!!!!!!! I don’t understand your last sentence. And if I may ask; what could that be?

Patrick: Oh! The last sentence, like you said, represents the sign of marriage. You and I are no longer getting younger; rather we both have reached the age to settle down with a woman. So, the best thing for us to do now is to find ourselves a good woman to marry.

George: Well said; but marriage is not my problem for now. Based on the stipulation or the demands of tradition, you are the one in the rightful position to get marry, as my elder brother. My problem now is to build a little house where I and my future wife to be will reside and also raise our unborn children. Anyway, since you’re the one interested in getting married, have you found a woman you like?

Patrick: Yes, brother and you know her as well. She is the daughter of Samuel Ezeobi, from Isiekwe village.

    28

George: You mean the daughter of the popular bricklayer (Akaego) from Isikwe village, whose daughter’s nickname is known as money?

Patrick: Yes, she is the one I want to marry, and do you have any problem with my choice of chosen wife to be?

George: Yes, brother, I don’t like her. She behaves like an untamed dog.

Patrick: George! George! George!!! How many times did I call your name?

George: You called me three times, of course.

Patrick: Good, but be very careful with your choice of words, mind the way you use your tongue and also do not insult the woman I want to marry based on hearsays from other people. And for your information my wife to be is not money by the name you said she bears. And I know my wife’s name as Linda the beauty.

George: Can’t you see how funny you are, and your bride to be, with whom you are still yet to fulfill the marital rites, is now your wife, instead of your fiancée. Patrick: Yes, I agree with you, whatever she is, let her be and do not allow things concerning her to be a problem or a burden between you and me, just let her be.

    George: I heard you.

(Then George picked up his office file and left to go to work, the light goes out)

    Act One

    Scene Two

(In the office of engineer George Ezekwem, barrister Paul Eke, comes in to check on his friend George and also to review some of their old and new contract records, the light comes on)

Bar. Paul Eke: Good morning, George, how are you?

George: I am fine, good morning my honorable learned barrister, could you please seat down and let me know what brought you to my office this early morning.

Bar. Paul Eke: The M.D instructed me to check on you just to see if you are through with the documentation of our new signed contract with P.N and N.C group of Companies.

George: Oh! I’m through with it, and here is the document you requested (he handovers the document to him.)

Bar. Paul Eke: You are so proactive in attending to urgent matters, and that’s so wise of you, keep it up; and I must commend that you are one of the main reasons why this company is making tremendous progress. However, you are too careful to execute your work and you are extremely instinctive with your work.

George: Thank you for the compliment, my friend there is fire on the mountain at the moment.

Bar. Paul Eke: You know that I’m a fire quencher, direct me to the exact location where the fire is coming from, and let me go and quench it. Oh! I guess your salary for this month has not been paid to you, right?

George: No, it has nothing to do with my salary. Just that my older brother wants to get married, but the woman he wants to marry is not the kind of person I would ever wish for my worst enemy to marry.

Bar. Paul Eke: If I may ask; do you know the girl in question? Her father, and what kind of a family does she come from?

George: There is no honor talking about a simpleton nor either there is dignity discussing meaningless thing, the daughter of Akaego, the bricklayer from Isiekwe village,

    A.K.A the money.

Bar. Paul Eke: Oh! You mean Linda, the daughter of Samuel Ezeobi the humble bricklayer from Isiekwe village?

George: Yes, she is the woman my elder brother wants to marry. And both of us knew very well how dangerous this girl was right from our secondary school days. However, her love for money is unmatched, and she loves money more than anything and that’s why people got her baptized by that nickname money. And since my brother told me that he will marry that girl for better or for worse, my spirit has not been at rest since then. So, you as my good friend, what advice do you have for me regarding my brother’s interest in marrying that girl?

Bar. Paul Eke: As you can see; "the beauty of an Udara fruit can’t be determined when it hasn’t fell off from its

    32

branch tag." Moreover, it means that some of these girls you see as a good girl in their father’s house can’t be as beautiful as they were in their hearts as you see them before taking them home as your wife. So let the faith of your brother decides what he wants on the choice of who he wants to marry.

George: Thank you my good friend for this wonderful advice. Probably, I know I will always count on you. And I will do exactly what you said.

(As barrister Paul Eke leaves the office with the required document the light goes out)

    Act One

    Scene Three

(It was about 04:00 O’clock in the evening, in the house of late Mr. and Mrs. Ezekwem, George was yet to return back from work. And Patrick was at home all alone, when his bride to be, his Fiancée entered, the light comes on)

Linda: Good evening my love, my peace and only joy.

Patrick: Good evening my lovely queen, future farmland for the cultivation of my spirit’s seeds (unborn children) to be. What a surprise visit, were you following me?

Linda: No! Why do you ask? (She didn’t respond to his

greeting, rather she threw question at him)

Patrick: Your visit came as a surprise to me, because it wasn’t quite long as I came back from work, and you entered as someone who followed me.

Linda: No, I didn’t. Instead, I only came at the right time. Anyways, good evening, my king, I like your greeting compliment.

Patrick: How are you, your siblings and your parents?

Linda: You don’t need to be told how fine I am now, because you could see it yourself. As for my parents and siblings, they are fine. What about you? How was your experience today at your working place?

Patrick: It wasn’t good at all.

Linda: I presumed; it was very bad day for you. Perhaps, notwithstanding; let me go and get you water to take your bath first, and then after, I will go inside the kitchen to make something delicious for you and your brother to eat for dinner. And afterward you will have enough energy to tell me everything that happened or transpired at your workplace today.

Patrick: My love, that’s so thoughtful of you and this, is one of the main reasons why I love you so much and I can’t trade you in an exchange of anything in this world because you are valuable more than rubies. You see; I talk about you to my friends all the time, whether they are listening or not, I tell them that you are the only jewel or bracelets around my neck that makes me happy all the time.

    Linda: Really?

Patrick: Yes, my love, from the bottom of my heart I love you so much, and I will do anything humanly possible within my capacity to make sure our happiness will last forever.

Linda: My king, please reserve your comment now, go and take your bath first, and then let me prepare your meal, and as soon as I’m done preparing the food, we will continue with this discussion.

Patrick: Is alright, let me go and take my bath and then wait for your delicious meal.

(Thus, as Patrick went inside the bathroom to take his bath and while Linda was busy in the kitchen preparing the food, George entered, and met his brother Patrick coming out from the bathroom)

George: Good evening, Patrick, my beloved brother.

(Patrick, didn’t respond to him, rather he walked away muted to his brother’s greeting. And George reasoned with himself in curiousness of his brother silence to his greetings. He kindly walked straight to his room to change up and quickly take his evening bath. Meanwhile, after George finished taking his bath, and went inside his room, thinking of what may have prompted or be the reason for his brother’s silence to him this evening, and then he realized his early morning statement to his brother, concerning the woman his brother wants to marry. And as he was concluding to reconcile with his brother, he heard a knock on his door)

Linda: Knock! Knock!! Knock!!! Is George in? (She

knocked on George’s door over three times)

George: Yes, I am and who are you?

Linda: It is me, Linda, your brother’s friend.

George: Oh! Come in, the door is open.

Linda: Thank you, I can’t come in because I only came to inform you that dinner is ready. And your brother is already there at the dining table waiting for you to join us for dinner.

George: Thank you for the information, but don’t you greet me? Or have we seen each other today?

Linda: Please pardon my manners, I am very sorry. Good evening Mr. George, I beg to take my leave.

George: You better be, and don’t let it ever happen again. Anyway, I have heard you, and tell my brother I will join him soon. (After Linda left, she quickly moved to the parlor to inform Patrick that dinner was ready)

Linda: Hello darling! The dinner is ready.

    Patrick: Really?

    Linda: Yes, my king.

Patrick: Wow! So fast, then you must be good at fast and furious game. And what about my brother? Have you informed him as well?

Linda: Yes, my darling, he was the first person I informed.

Patrick: My love, you are so caring, loving and adorable, anyway let me reserve my comment until we finish taking our dinner. (Patrick, robbed his right hand on Linda’s shoulder, and they both walked together to the dining table, and within some few minutes, George joined them, and another talk ensued)

George: What smells here? (He asked)

Patrick: Good flavor, right? (He nodded well) Whatever you perceive right now can’t be any other thing than the sweet-smelling odor of rose and vanilla from my sweet darling’s food, which she kindly took time to prepare for both of us to enjoy and be happy.

Linda: Oh! My God, you are both funny, and no one yet has tasted the food, so how can you arrive at that conclusion? When you are yet to taste the food, your description sounds so funny anyway.

George: Enough of all these jokes, Linda please pray for us.

Linda: Patrick and George, you both should close your eyes, let us pray. Father Lord, we thank you for this awesome and gracious gift. As we eat this food, may it nourish our bodies and give strength to our body cells to continue to function effectively without default. Heavenly father blessed be your Holy name for this wonderful and precious meal, which you have given to us for merriment and enjoyment, and as we eat it; let it serve as nourishment to our bodies. In Jesus name I prayed, Amen.

    George: Amen.

    Patrick: Amen.

(As they were eating and drinking George tender an honest and sincere apology to his brother, Patrick)

George: Dear brother, I hope you are not still angry with me, because of my early morning argument with you on the issue of what to have and what not to have? And if that is the case, please forgive me, I’m very sorry. I don’t intend to hurt your feelings over that disagreement, I am only showing brothering love to you. Perhaps, from the look of things right now, you have my permission to go ahead with what makes you happy.

Patrick: Apology accepted, in fact; you are too intelligent, and that’s why I always thank God on your behalf every day; for having a true brother who knows the heart of his brother whenever something goes wrong with the soul and mind of his brother. Thank you for your understanding and I’m very happy to have your support and approval, and this causes for additional celebration, merriment and enjoyment.

Linda: Wait! Wait!! Wait!!! What is going on here with you both? Please can anyone of you explain to me the reason why both of you burst into laughter and amazement of joy with one another? Anyway, from the look of things I can see there is something secretly going on here, which you both doesn’t want me to know, I hope I’m not at the wrong place? I need explanation to this, to what reason were you apologizing to one another? I’m so surprised to see you, the mighty great George of all people apologizing to your elder brother, Patrick; and you Patrick, on the other hand, accepting George’s apology without further questions. Although there is nothing wrong with it, but please George could you explain to me in short simple terms the reason why you are tendering an apology to your brother? As for you my king Patrick, with due respect I think I deserve to know what all these acts and demonstration are all about.

Patrick: Wait! A minute, I think I’m in a better position to explain this to you my sweet darling. What is going on here has nothing to do with you, it is an issue between me and my brother. God have just miraculously sorted it out for us by himself. There is nothing for you to worry about. Let us enjoy our meal before it gets cold.

George: Well, my brother has answered you correctly, and I had nothing to add or subtract to what my brother has just said. Anyway, to crown it all I love your meal and it tastes great. In fact, you cook similar to my late mother, May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Oh! How I wish I can get a woman who cooks very well like you.

Linda: Really? I hope I’m not been flattered by you with this compliment of yours, or is this not a joke? Perhaps, maybe I should think about it on a reserve? Anyway, you can save your compliment for some other time. Well, I beg to take my leave. (She hurried up to leave so that her parents won’t start looking for her.)

Patrick: Hmm! My love, the night is too far gone, and I will not permit you to go home by this time of the night. Can’t you see it is almost midnight? And you are still hurrying up to go home. No! No!! No!!! I will not allow you to step an inch out of this place, because I’m not ready to offer or give any explanation to your parents, if something terrible happens to you. However, let’s assume that you were allowed to go home and virtually something terrible mistakenly happened to you, do you ever think that your parents would believe my side of the story? It wouldn’t matter the amount of explanation I would ever give to them, they still wouldn’t believe me at all, so let us not risk it at all. No way they can’t, and the conclusion is; I won’t permit you to go home at this time of the night. And you cannot risk your life or afford to return home at this hour of the night.

What about your vehicle? I mean your car. Is it not working?

Patrick: No, it’s working, but there is no petrol in the car tank and also the same thing with my brother’s one too. Just bear with me tonight, and tomorrow, I will go out there to a nearby petrol filling station to refuel my car tank and I will drive you home safely with my car.

Linda: Alright, my love, I hope and pray my parents won’t get worried about me because if they do, they will probably beat the hell out of me when I’ll return home tomorrow morning. No problem. But still, I’m a little bit scared because this is the first time I sleep out of my parent’s home and also, to worsen the matter, precisely in a man’s house.

Patrick: My love, you don’t need to worry too much, and since you are here with me, your safety is my concern.

Linda: Okay, my darling, but please can you show me the bathroom, let me go and take my bath, and remember to gist me later what transpired at your workplace today. (Patrick instructed George to show her the bathroom and left the parlor to his room

Patrick: George, please help me show my sweetheart the bathroom so that she can go and take her bath.

George: Alright Brother, I’m always at your service. Therefore, you don’t need to beg me to help you do anything that you are too sure that I can easily do
