What is a Whistling Tree Frog
A whistling tree frog is a type of frog that is known for its distinctive high-pitched whistling call, which it uses to attract mates and defend its territory. The Southern Brown Tree Frog, also known as the Eastern Brown Tree frog or simply Brown Tree Frog, is a species of tree frog native to southeastern Australia. They are typically brown in color, They grow to about 5-7 cm (2-3 inches) in length. They are arboreal, meaning they live in trees, and can be found in a variety of habitats, from rainforests to suburban gardens. They are also known for their distinctive call, which is a loud, low-pitched croak.
They are not considered endangered. They are found in Victoria, New South Wales and south-eastern Queensland.
The other name it is known for ofcourse, is the Whistling Tree Frog, now originally from Australia, it has now been naturalised in New Zealand, especially the South Island where it has flourished in the colder climate.
What are the Frogs Native to New Zealand
New Zealand does not have any native tree frogs. The only frogs found in New Zealand are the Archey's frog and Hamilton's frog, both of which are endangered species and are not known for making a whistling sound. They are also not arboreal and instead found on the forest floor.
