    Conclusion

Lord of the universe, how I wish I had words to fashion beautiful prayers to praise You! But, alas, I cannot find these words. So, listen to me, O God, as I recite the letters of the alphabet. You know what I think and how I feel. Take these letters of the alphabet and form the words that express the yearning and the love for You in my heart.

    PREFACE

Falling in love with God can miraculously transform your life in a million ways.

I have learned the first commandment:

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. (Mark 12:30 ESV)

Do you know that our obedience demonstrates our love?

The person who has My commandments and obeys them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will reveal Myself to him. (John 14:21 TPT)

To love and obey God is to praise and worship Him daily on an ongoing basis.

My lifetime verse is Romans 8:28 (NET):

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, and to those who are called according to His purpose.

You will find out how God has worked so many things out for my good, and He has given me a purpose in life. This is so amazing!

My friend Sandy and I started reading a book on worshipping God, and it was touching and convicting that God gave us an idea. We were asked to come up with a new way to worship God daily. We found another verse that really hit us:

I am the A and the Z, the Beginning and the Ending of all things, says God, who is the Lord, the All Powerful One who is, and was, and is coming again! (Revelation 1:8 TPT)

We thought about this and realized how neat it would be to take the alphabet and find verses to praise and worship God using the alphabet’s letters. The alphabet has 26 letters, and we were thinking that months are around 30 days so this would be amazing to take one letter a day and reach the end of the alphabet every month. You can also read one full letter every two weeks, and it will take you a year to complete the alphabet. Twenty-six letters (in the full alphabet) times two weeks constitutes a whole year of 52 weeks. It is really perfect to find a plan where you can give God love and obedience in your life every day.

We took the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit and searched each one in the scriptures. We shared so much about how magnificent they are. As we started searching each letter for God’s attributes, Jesus coming into the world to save us, and how the Holy Spirit lives inside us, we continued to receive more blessings from God. He began to reveal more and more to us than we could ever imagine.

God gave me a dream one night, and I really wanted to share this amazing story with the world. When you praise and worship God daily, you know that you are being obedient to God. He has commanded us to love Him and His Word. I found another verse that God gave me right away after this dream. God is absolutely amazing.

Be enthusiastic to serve the Lord, keeping your passion toward Him boiling hot! Radiate with the glow of the Holy Spirit and let Him fill you with excitement as you serve Him. (Romans 12:11 TPT)

This is exactly how I felt, and this verse says it in a perfect way. I am very excited and enthusiastic about serving God through searching the scriptures, and I want to share this with the world. It is a glorious life to praise and worship God daily.

I hope everyone will want to be touched by God and learn to know Him better. You definitely will be blessed by God in a beautiful way by letting these scripture verses touch your heart daily. Jesus is right there with you. He will wrap His arms around you because He loves you. In following God daily, His Spirit will also touch us on the inside and guide us in the direction we should go:

    Shout praises to the

    LORD

    ! The

    LORD

blesses everyone who worships Him and gladly obeys his teachings. (Psalm 112:1 CEV)

    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

First and foremost, I would like to thank my close friend Sandra Hillman, whom I call Sandy. Our close friendship has lasted almost fifty years. In 2005, we started doing Bible studies, and as time went on, we read books together over the phone. It has been seventeen years now, and God has blessed us so much. We have both grown in the Lord together. I give my heartfelt thanks to her for helping me put this book together. She has prayed and sent her insights throughout the book. She has been an encouragement to my heart. I love you, Sandy, and I thank God for your blessed friendship!

My Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ—the love and inspiration behind my words along with God, the Father, who has given me the motivation to pursue this book and the Holy Spirit who lives inside me and speaks to me daily. I want more of You and less of me.

My husband, Dennis, for putting up with me working on this book for countless hours.

Two friends from Crosspoint Bible Church have been there for me during this time for prayer and encouragement. I thank God for Marge Kirkpatrick and Kathy Isgro. They have led my Monday night women’s Bible study group for years and have prayed faithfully for me in many things and for many years. Marge, thank you for telling me about John 3:16 and for putting my name in that verse:

God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16 KJV)

God so loved [Debra] that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

This has been such a blessing for me. I have used it for the prison ministry many times.

Another amazing prayer warrior is Stella Boyd, a sister in Christ who came into my life several years ago. She is involved in a ladies’ Bible study group and has asked all of them to pray for me as time has gone on. She and I have blessed each other tremendously. She has helped my little online Avon business thrive, and it has helped cover the expenses of publishing this book. I praise God for all these wonderful people who God has placed in my life at the time He wanted me to meet them, including those listed in the introduction.

    INTRODUCTION

God’s miracles have transformed my life, and in 2020, He gave me a revelation. In the summer of 1964—when I had just turned thirteen years old—a miracle happened. We had just moved from Fenton, Missouri, to Omaha, Nebraska. I used to walk to school by myself, and it was about four miles away. Looking back, I know God protected me every day during my lonely walk through wooded streets.

When I signed up for classes, the principal asked if I would like to learn how to type. I decided to go ahead and try. Somehow, God guided me and told me that typing would be good to learn. I was the top student in that class, and I received an honors certificate. I thank God so much because that is what I did for forty-three years in my career—data entry—and I have always loved that kind of work. God has been with me in all my jobs, and I used these amazing skills. I have also typed many Bible studies, and I have served in prison ministry for almost six years, which has required much typing. God led me in this direction for years—without me even knowing it. One day, when I was open-minded enough, God revealed it to me.

    Hallelujah! Thank You, Father God!

In 1970, when I was nineteen years old, I went to a university and met Ann Schmadeke. She invited me to a weekend retreat at Grace College Institute. I went with her and learned that Jesus died for my sins and really loved me. He gave me forgiveness, and they spoke about eternal life. The only way to go to heaven is to accept Christ in your heart as your personal Savior and to ask Jesus to forgive your sins. I went forward that night, repented of my sins, and asked Jesus to come live in my heart. I knew then that I was on my way to heaven.

I also learned a few years later that I had a touch of Asperger’s syndrome, but because of God, I have been able to overcome so much in my life. Once you realize that God created you and that everyone is unique, He can help you accept who you are. Everything becomes easier to deal with.

I was shown this psalm, and it has spoken to me in a major way:

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made your works are wonderful. I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them they would outnumber the grains of sand when I awake, I am still with you. (Psalm 139:13–18 NIV)

Lying awake at night, I talked to God about this and realized that we are all fearfully and wonderfully made. The more you repeat these verses, the more you come to believe them. Then you can thank God over and over again. This is what really spoke to me. It shows that God created me and loves me. It took more than fifty-five years for this to finally sink in.

I got married in 1973, and we went to a fundamental church. I started learning more about Jesus. In 1979, when I was in my early twenties, a friend went out of her way for me and spent a lot of time with me. Ellen Thompson said many prayers to help me see the light, but I could not grasp how God could love me. I felt so hopeless and unworthy. Ellen invited me to her house to do Bible studies. My husband and I eventually left the church there. Ellen and I kept in touch at Christmas by sending cards and letters, but we no longer saw each other.

Between 1991 and 1998, I didn’t speak to my family. They were extremely mean to my husband and me, and they talked very negatively about us to our children. I had to leave the family alone, and I had to handle all the holidays without them. I actually called them when I was hospitalized and diagnosed with cancer. My children were sent to foster care during those years, and it was a very difficult situation without any help. At work, I met a fantastic Christian woman. Anne Christian helped me so much by listening to me every day and praying for me. She tried to disciple me and kept telling me how much God loves me. She retired from the phone company in 1998, and we lost touch with each other. I was very thankful for her during those years.

Another beautiful miracle from God happened in 2014. A new coworker, Benita Greene, came to our department. As we were talking, the subject of God came up. She said she attended Salem Baptist Church, which was the church that Anne Christian had gone to. I told Benita about my sweet friend who went to that church.

Benita said, She’s one of my best friends!

I was ecstatic and delighted. For several years, the three of us would get together and go out for dinner. Having Anne back in my life was a beautiful blessing. I told her how God had improved my life and brought me to a different church. Getting back in touch with Anne after sixteen years was an amazing blessing.

Anne retired from the phone company in 1998. In the spring of 1998, at 48 years old, I came down with colon cancer. My job allowed me to take off nine months, and during that time, I was receiving chemotherapy and living with the cancer. I had surgery, and a lot of my colon was removed. God blessed me again because I was in a company that provided pay and benefits. It was such a blessing. The Lord did provide.

In the summer of 2002, I came down with cancer of the uterus. Again, God provided our family with pay and benefits. I had to go to the hospital and have a hysterectomy. Having my female organs removed was quite something.

Our oldest daughter disowned us for about four years. She had gotten angry, and I didn’t even know where she was. She wrote us a mean letter about how horrible we were. I was very angry and bitter for about five years.

While I was dealing with the cancer, God spoke to me so much at three o’clock in the morning. I started praying really hard, and I knew I had to forgive her. God showed me a lot of scriptures about forgiveness. I wrote Angela a long letter, which God had worked on with me for days.

I shared the following verse with her:

Admit your faults to one another and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous man has great power and wonderful results. (James 5:16 TLB)

I wrote about how I had treated her and how I prayed for God to show me what I had done wrong. God would speak to me at night, and I would get up, open the Bible, and write things down. It came together in a beautiful way.

The Lord’s Prayer says, Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespassed against us. I heard a sermon about how God will not forgive you if you don’t forgive others. That was very convicting. I really believe that if I hadn’t gotten cancer, this amazing forgiveness experience never would have happened. Again, such a miracle! My cancer turned into a major blessing.

This was the first time in my life that I learned what real forgiveness is all about. The two cancers were all about the stress in my life that I was living with. The amazing thing is that I had somehow gotten back together with my daughter in 2007, and our relationship is better now than it ever was. We have had many long talks, and she is very close to the Lord. She married a wonderful man of God, and she is teaching her three children to believe in Jesus. She is living overseas, which is sometimes hard for me, but God has become my priority in life. He meets all my needs, which is phenomenal.

You won’t believe what happened in October 2010! We bought a house and moved to northwest Omaha in March 1995. I went to another church for years. In 2010, God worked on me to find a Bible-believing church so I could be around loving people who are full of godly fellowship. I drove around to see what churches were close to our new house. Down the street, less than five minutes away, there was an Evangelical Bible church. I called them, and they were really
