Chapter 4. Odile and Odette. The Dispute on the Way to the ‘Self-Development Courses’. Runian Queendom, Capital of Runia. Year 2123 after the Appearance of the Oracle
Odile, Odile, where are we going?
joyful Odette asked her friend.
To a good place,
came the reply.
It was mid-May and the weather was warm. Both girls were at the Rosanna store. It was an old store that sold a little bit of everything: basic groceries on the ground floor, pet supplies in the basement, cheap clothes, and inexpensive children's toys in the section next to the groceries. And there was even a small pharmacy section.
Such stores of the ‘all in one’ type were actively built after the collapse of the United Unia, during the Reconstruction. After the shortage of many goods during the Unia (although this did not apply to everyone, some segments of the population, for example, trade workers, bought everything they needed through ‘their channels’), such stores were very popular.
Odile remembered her childhood, after all, she (like Odette) was born just after the collapse of the Unia. And she still has memories of the time when she, along with her parents or grandmother, went to such stores and to the tent market. And yet, in those days, the capital of the Queendom, Runia, was literally dotted with an abundance of stalls. They began to build all sorts of individual entrepreneurs, too, after the collapse of the Unia. Indeed, in the Unia, according to the ideology of the ruling party of utopians, there could be no private property, and everything belonged to the state. Therefore, there were no private shops and outlets — only state-owned ones. It is not surprising that after the collapse of the Unia, in the countries that were previously part of it, including the Runian Queendom, an ‘explosive’ development of trade began. It was this that spawned unsightly all-in-one stores like Rosanna, kiosks and tent markets.
It is not surprising that after the collapse of the Unia, in the countries that were previously part of it, including the Runian Queendom, an ‘explosive’ development of trade began. It was this that spawned all-in-one stores like Rosanne, stalls and tent markets.
But about fifteen years ago, in Runia and other large cities, local authorities began to build quite modern malls and supermarkets. And the new city administration began to gradually get rid of stalls and tent markets, as from ‘spoiling the appearance of the city’. Although, in fact, there were many fake goods and simply illegal outlets in the tent markets. Stalls also sold not always high-quality products and things.
But despite the discrepancy in quality, many people did not like it at first, because everyone is used to buying everything in stalls, tent markets and all-in-one stores. But soon, people appreciated the advantages of new malls and supermarkets. And the tent markets have been replaced by quite civilized so-called covered markets, which also look something like simple malls.
But the all-in-one stores did not close, because they did not spoil the appearance of the city, and things were not bad there with the legality of trade and the quality of goods. Therefore, Rosanne remained the same as Odile and Odette remembered its from childhood. Well, almost the same. A few years ago, the store was sheathed with colored tiles, and the inside was renovated.
So anyway, where are we going?
Odette asked again.
I say to a good place,
Odile answered vaguely again. "By the way, it’s already three in the afternoon. Let's go, or we'll be late.
There on time?
the mermaid was surprised, following her friend. Modern exoskeletons for merpeople allowed them to comfortably move on land, at the same speed as humans. Therefore, Odette did not lag behind Odile. And yet, what is it? You said yesterday on the phone that there I can find agreement with myself. Is this really a self-development course?
Yeah... sort of...
"Perhaps it’s not worth telling her yet that we
