Not a Novice Ride

In Polly’s opinion, the excitement of a veterinarian attending the large stable complex where she worked during the holidays was entirely disproportionate to the occasion itself. Not that anybody was ever happy to see an animal in need of medical attention, of course, but some of the female grooms were slightly obsessed with the divine Jamie Johnston. For years, their local vet had been very well respected within his profession, but just recently he’d started to make quite a name for himself on television. Thanks to his incredibly good looks and clear passion for his chosen field, he was fast becoming quite a celebrity in the media, and a sex symbol to boot. Not that Polly considered this very surprising. After all, he was handsome, highly intelligent, knowledgeable, loquacious and kind to animals. The perfect, all round package.

These facts, however, were not enough to make Polly feel enormously impressed about his visit late that afternoon. And that wasn’t just because, despite being a third-year veterinary medicine student herself, her diagnoses were always ignored by the yard owner. Although, that in itself could be rather grating. No, her main issue was that whenever Jamie Johnston turned up, the other much more shapely grooms managed to stop work completely, as had happened now.
