Reviews for Gingerbread Man Superhero!
2 ratings1 review
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5This variation on the Gingerbread Man/fleecing pancake motif casts the Gingerbread Man as a superhero who now chants “Run, run, as fast as you can. You can’t escape me, I’m the Gingerbread Man.” Unfortunately, he is a thoroughly unattractive character, created by a contemporary-looking senior citizen woman who decided to press a large prune into his belly before baking him. The prune ends up repulsing the Gingerbread Man’s archenemy, an evil macaroon. Not much works in this story—the premise is amusing, but the story is poorly executed. The action mainly takes place in the Back Street Bakery and consists of a prolonged fight between the two sweets. The Gingerbread Man’s occasional shouts of “Flour Power” attempt to reinforce the superhero theme, but these exclamations appear disjointed. The book is designed to resemble a comic book, and includes comic book typeface and layout. Graphically, this layout is distracting, as the frames alternate between whole page and smaller frames within a page. Technically, the illustrations are mediocre and lack charm. The elderly couple is the most engagingly created element. Target audience K-2.Enderle, D., & Kulka, J. (2009). Gingerbread man superhero!. Gretna, La: Pelican.
