Good Girl

Ikneel on the bed , naked except my wedding ring and the black leather paddle in my hand. The paddle has three heart shaped cutouts showing a layer of bright pink leather underneath. My thumb has been tracing the outline of the top heart for what feels like forever. It’s become almost painful but I can’t seem to stop, it distracts me from the buzzy feeling in my stomach.

Nervous anticipation.

I wait.

I close my eyes, focus on my breathing.

Four seconds in, four seconds out.

Inhale.

There is the familiar sound, a telltale creak of the bottom stair tread.

I keep my eyes closed, counting the seconds, how long will it take you to climb all the way to the top?

I open my eyes to see you standing in the doorway, the slightest hint of a smile on your lips. A glass of bourbon held loosely in your left hand. Your crisp white shirt is unbuttoned, the sleeves rolled to show off your defined forearms. You lean against the doorframe, watching me.

You raise the glass to your lips and take a sip, savoring the taste. A shiver runs through me. You see it and your smile grows but you make no move to come to me.

You are in no hurry tonight.

When you finish your drink you come into the room, setting the glass on the dresser. You close the distance between us.

Taking my chin in your hand, tracing my lower lip with your thumb. My lips part for you, the way they always do. You bend down to kiss me, taking the paddle from my hand.

You run the slick leather surface over my
