“The Black Dress” is a short story about a young girl who wants to avoid her grandmother's funeral but follows along after her family anyway.

"The Girl on the Moon" is a short story about a young girl who's grown up hearing stories about the surface of her home on the moon, so despite the warnings, she ventures out on her own.

“Motherhood” is a short story showcasing the hectic morning Jade has as she’s trying to get her family to the airport on time. Her husband and two kids prove to make that goal difficult to reach.

"Darlene" is a short story about a young adult who has moved into their own home only to be terrorized by an unknown force.

"Almost Perfect" is a short story about a young man who meets the love of his life in high school and follows their journey to happily ever after. But that never as happy as the storybooks make it seem.

    Thank you for downloading this e-book. This is a collection of my short stories, written as coursework for a creative writing degree, plus a couple that I wrote in my free time. Some of these stories are based on specific guidelines and prompts. I hope you enjoy them all.

    The Black Dress

    I stood there, just staring at my reflection. Though, this doesn't look like the same me I have seen every day for the past sixteen years. Instead of my usual big bright smile, all I can see are big, brown, dead eyes staring back at me. In place of my usually bright, and colorful attire, I see a flowy, black dress cascade down my body.

    The black dress.

    This poor dress, and every other dress of this color, has so much bad luck. They are chosen to be worn on someone’s hardest days just because they are made with black fabric instead of yellow or pink.

    It would be a very beautiful dress, honestly. It starts with half-sleeves made of lace, and a round neckline. The lace continues over the entire dress, even the skirt that spans out as it gets closer to the bottom, close to my knees. If it wasn't for what it symbolizes, I would
