About this ebook
Reverend Gloria Barr Ford
Gloria Barr Ford is her mother’s 7th child among 4 living sisters and brothers. She started writing poetry at the age of 8, and believes that she has always been “Empowered by the Spirit”. She accepted Christ at an early age, even though she’s had to learn many lessons the hard way, she finally returned to “the rock of her salvation”. An ordained itinerant elder and licensed evangelist, she’s quick to let you know she loves the Lord. She’s a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, playwright, storyteller, gospel singer, journalist, dramatist, radio minister and an administrative assistant at Coastal Carolina University. She has always wanted to write a book of poetry and a line of children’s books, so her dream is coming true. Hopefully as you read the poems of childhood, of family, of inspiration, and of life—you will become “Empowered By The Spirit”.

Empowered by the Spirit - Reverend Gloria Barr Ford
TURN TO JESUS
There are friends who will leave you
When you need them most
They will turn their backs on you
And about it brag and boast
There are your children
Who will hurt you
Cause you pain and deep despair
And even though you’d die for them
They’ll tell you they don’t care
There are some spouses
Who will deceive you sore
Give you a broken heart
And walk on out the door
Co-workers can be so cruel
And even heartless too
To get a rapport with the boss
They’ll set a trap or two for you
Church members can be vile
A devilish working crew
If you ever cramp that member’s style
He’ll surely turn on you
Who can you go to
To whom can you cling
My friend just turn to Jesus
He is your everything
Let Him have your sorrow. He handle your today and secure your tomorrow
MY SECRET CORNER
I have a secret corner
Where I go to pray
It is where I talk to Jesus
All times night and day
I like to get real quiet
And pretend He holds me near
He wraps His arms around me
He’s blessed that I am there
He covers me with his feathers
And under His shadow I abide
He whispers that He loves me
Sometimes I have to cry
I tell Him about my troubles
He listens to my woes
He says my joys will be doubles
He says He will open
