About this ebook

In a series of short stories, author Mariel Myers shows how God took her on an 80-year journey with Jesus. She shows God's faithfulness in her life as she grows from loving Jesus with a child's faith to a woman of age knowing Jesus as her Beloved. The book is a frank description of her life, including the struggle of divorce, and loneliness, plus lessons learned from years in ministry.

Sharing forgiveness following divorce has proven to be extremely helpful to many who have read His.  Her story is one of absolute surrender, commitment, and dedication to finding and following the will of God for her life.  His is written to encourage you as you journey with Jesus as Mariel asks you the soul-searching question, "Do you love Jesus, or are you in love with Jesus?"

His - My Journey with Jesus
Author

Mariel Myers

“If you write a book, the name is going to be His,” Mariel sensed God was speaking to her. Out of her passion for her children, grandchildren, and future generations to know that she was real, her relationship with God was real, her faith was real, and, most of all, her God is real, she wrote His. Mariel tells her story of a lifetime of hurts, disappointments, joys, light-sided humor, and her Great God’s steadfast love with honesty and frankness. Even today, Mariel stands in awe when she, like the disciple, John, grasps the truth that Jesus loves her. Jesus loves her! Isaiah 54:5, For your Maker is your husband, The Lord of hosts is His name, has become a reality for her. She has served many roles in her life and now functions as a mother, not only to her family, but to many in numerous places. She loves being a spiritual mother and, in many ways, considers this the most fruitful part of her ministry.

His - My Journey with Jesus - Mariel Myers

    Dedication

To my family, I am so proud of who you are, more importantly,

I am proud of whose you are.

I love you with all my heart.

    Forward

Pastor Edward Hardee, Lead Pastor of the Langley Church of God in Graniteville, South Carolina, wrote this introduction for the second publication of His.

Life is a journey. This is one life lesson that has taken me years to learn. Each person, as they live their life, is on this journey. We are learning lessons and applying experiences, some are re-lived, while others are picked up for the first time.

In the beautiful and insightful book HIS, Sister Mariel Myers takes us on her journey. She begins her journey during the times of safety as a young child and continues through all the ups and downs of her life. Sister Myers does not hold back in sharing her heartaches as well as sharing her victories.

This is her journey but what I have come to understand is that we can learn from one another’s journey. As I read through this book, the content brought back so many memories in my own journey. Memories of hurt and forgiveness, memories of victories and defeat, and memories of the times I have spent in the presence of my Master.

You will also enjoy reading HIS. You will discover that we all have a story to tell in our journey. We all have a life to live. You will come away with a better understanding of how important your journey is.

I am so thankful that Sister Mariel has shown us how to put the pieces together. She has helped me see that in this journey called life every experience has purpose in God’s overall plan.

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

I was just 24 years old when I met Mariel Myers. It was at a revival; I was there to sing and she was there to preach the Word. I knew from that first meeting that she was a special lady, a woman of God. The presence of God was very obvious any time you were around her.  She carried herself with authority; not a proud look, but one such that you knew that she was serious about her calling and her walk with God.

Little did this young Baptist boy know that I was soon to enter a season where I would be mentored by one of the godliest women I have ever met. Mariel took me under her wing, invited me into her home, and began teaching me things of the Holy Spirit that I had never known. Her home was filled with the good things of God at all times and it was in her home that I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

I was just one of many people Mariel nurtured in the Lord over the years.  Her time with God was obviously very important to her. We’d hear her say, I am going to my room to pray and I don’t want to be bothered unless it’s very important. God always came first, especially in prayer time.

Attending Mariel’s church was always special; you knew that you would meet God there. Though the church was small in numbers, it was mighty in the things of God. Mariel would minister in a way that felt as though she was ministering to the multitudes; she knew that God was the same with five or five thousand.

She would teach the Word so that even a child could understand, but when the Spirit would prompt her, she would move with power and authority. This was because she fully understood who she was in the Lord and walked each day with the Spirit. I have seen her come against the enemies of hell many times, casting out spirits when led by the Spirit. Powerful, yet loving, describes Mariel, in the home and in the church.

Mariel had a gentleness about her when it came to ministering to people but she would not hesitate to correct when necessary.  However, she would never bring correction without always coming back around to help you understand the why of the correction. She would do it in a way that you could not help but feel the loving presence of God.

Mariel is one of a kind. If she only had one request of God, it would be, Father, please let the life I have led be one that leaves a lasting impression; an impression not of me, but one that creates a desire in my children, my grandchildren, and even my great-grandchildren, to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior so that we can rest assured that we will spend eternity together in our Heavenly home.

To those who read this book, it is my prayer that each word will help bring you to a real understanding of our loving and wonderful Savior, Jesus Christ. He alone can change your life; he did for me - and Mariel.

Thank you to the one I call Mom; you loved me when no one else would. You are a true woman of God and I love you.

Pastor Bruce Gregory, your spiritual son

    Preface

I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine...

    Song of Solomon 6:3a (KJV)

I want you to know something of the path I have taken in my life, the way that has led me into a closeness with my Love that is beyond anything that words can say. Oh God, that I could communicate to my readers my innermost thoughts, and even struggles, that drew me closer to Him.

I regret that I did not learn about knowing my Beloved and that I am His beloved years before I did. Now I can say that I know Him. Has it been worth what it cost me? Yes, a thousand times. If only I had spent more time with Him; being there, loving Him, unwavering, content to be in His presence.

Simply said, this is a collection of short stories that I am leaving to you in an attempt to show you some of the things God will do to reach and help us. I guess that sometimes I preach in these anecdotes. I do not apologize; I am a preacher. I have not had the opportunity to share with or teach you most of what I have learned in walking with God. I pray God will help me to write with clarity and not bring about confusion.

This is not meant to be an autobiography, although it is autobiographical. There is a lot that I did not include. It is not my intention to hurt or embarrass anyone with my reflections. Some things are better left unsaid.

I want you to know me in ways you have not known me. I want you to see my humanity, my shortcomings, failures, and successes. Because of that, I include a few personal prophecies that have ministered to me deeply. I have also added a sampling of prayers written in my journal. I want you to know how I think, who I am.

Rahab, the harlot of Jericho, was used by God to influence generations to come. She was one of three women included in the genealogy of Christ because she influenced generations in Israel by her actions for years after she was gone. Pastor Edward Hardee on May 27, 2018; Influencing Generations to Come

I am nothing more than a symbolic Rahab, but if you can glean anything from me and my walk that will make you want a closer relationship with Jesus, then it has been worth all of the prayers, the hours, the loss of sleep, and the effort I have put into this writing.

I was talking to the Lord about the probability of there being some repetitions in the book, and He reminded me that He had a lot in His. That gave me a chuckle.

I am not a professional writer. I am seventy-nine years old and have never written a book until now. I have never had a journalism class. I have no false aspirations of making anyone’s Best Seller list. This has been a labor of love and I will be thrilled if anyone is blessed by any of this. I have come to view what I am doing as a ministry that God is allowing in my later years. I pray that this effort will prove to be an inspiration to you and others who may choose to read my story.

Most of all, my overwhelming desire is for each of you to know that there is more to God than you can ever imagine. I am talking about your intimate relationship with Him. May I, somehow, be used by God to create a hunger in you for more of Him. I want each of you to hear Him invite you to Come Away, My Beloved.

    The Early Years

    Chapter 1

    Jesus Loves Me

...but Jesus said, Let the little children come to me and do not

hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven."

    Matthew 19:14 (ESV)

I was born on a late summer day in 1939. My mother was a Registered Nurse, and my daddy was a grease monkey, now more correctly known as an auto mechanic.

They met when Daddy was a patient in the hospital in Reidsville, North Carolina. Daddy had been trapped in a grease pit while working on the underside of a car. That was in the days before hydraulic lifts. An acetylene torch exploded, and a fire broke out between him and the only stairs he had to climb to get out of the deep hole. He was severely burned and was hospitalized for several weeks. Mama was his nurse.
