Chapter One

One week later, Hazel found herself once more standing in front of her window, watching the skies. Dark clouds threatened on the horizon, bringing with them the occasional flash of lightening. She wondered briefly if dragons could fly in storms or if they huddled for shelter just like everyone else.

The weekly hardship gathering for the commoners in the city would start in another hour. Every second that ticked by reminded Hazel of Sol’s command. She was to be waiting, naked, with her choice of clothing laid out. Instead, she was fully dressed in a dark blue corset with golden dragons stitched throughout. She had commissioned it right after Sol had left.

Well, right after was a lie. Right after the golden dragon had left, she had taken care of the burning need between her thighs, even though she had been warned not to. However, after she had finished the ground had not opened to swallow her whole, nor had fire come from the sky to burn her. Whatever magic the dragon had put in place didn’t seem to have worked.
