Healing the Wounded Church, a Pastor's Summary

About this ebook
The church is hurting. We don't like talking about it. Stiff upper lip and all that. But honesty requires we see what is happening around us and take action. There seems to be very little delineation when moving from outside to inside the church anymore. Why is that? Could it be we have brought the wounds we all suffer inside with us? It is time to heal the church and all its people.
In this revised and very condensed version of the thirty-six (36) areas where the church needs healing, I have addressed it to Pastors, hoping to generate some thinking and considering and maybe little action, too. The three volumes of the series are divided into twelve manageable bites that walk a person or a group through the necessary process of evaluating all the vulnerabilities in their life and insuring they have healed over that area rather than just covered it up.
This volume is intended to be a taste of things a Pastor might desire to see in his congregation and spur a little hope that the whole Christian package is attainable. It is my fervent hope it will spur discussion and debate and possibly further and deeper prayer and action within the churches themselves.
The church is the hope of this world. What hope is there if we are beaten down and limping along beside others who are beaten down and limping along? When God calls us out of the throng of humanity, He does not call us to be hurting and wounded? He calls us to heal us and make us the church without spot or wrinkle.
This is a chance to review where we are, where we are going and, quite possibly, discover how we intend to get there.

Healing the Wounded Church
Healing the Wounded Church Deeper
Healing the Wounded Church Deeper Still
(A Three Book Series discussing the woundedness in our churches today)
This is a short introduction to the three book series on healing the church. You will find a summarized version of the 36 areas discussed in the original three books. This is only intended to bring the woundedness of the church into the light and excite an interest into further exploration by our church leaders. This brief glimpse of the content of the original books is not a full discussion of the subject. Each of these areas would make an excellent place to evaluate our ministries and the church itself. Seeking God's truth always begins at a place where we know we are missing something.
It is my supposition that the church is broken and wounded to such a degree that we are missing much of God's intended abundant life. Among all the things we are doing right, there are some areas where our woundedness holds us back from fully embracing what God would desire in our relationship. Jesus is coming back for a bride that is whole, without spot or blemish. Our personal struggles with our wounds and hurts keep us (more than we like to admit) from attaining that wholeness.
A much greater and more detailed investigation is covered in the actual books, themselves. May you be blessed as you seek all that God has for you and your church.
Healing the Wounded Church - Outline
Rule #1 – The enemy of our souls seeks to wound and destroy God's creation.
(1 Peter 5:8) ...your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about...
Rule #2 – Every human being walking this earth is carrying evidence of the wounds the enemy inflicts.
(Romans 3:23) ...all have sinned and come short of the glory of God;
Rule #3 – These wounds, inflicted in a spiritual battle, cannot be healed by physical means.
(Ephesians 6:12) ...we wrestle not against flesh and blood...
Rule #4 – The church needs the spiritual healing of Jesus in order to help their community.
(Luke 9:11) ...spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need...
Rule #5 – A wounded church is not the Bride of Christ it thinks it is.
(Ephesians 5:27) ...not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing...
1 The Comforter
Every believer needs a relationship with the Holy Spirit that allows them to reach the very throne of God on a regular basis. There is no healing outside of the throne of God.
2 Jesus is the Main Focus
Without understanding the role Jesus plays in our healing, we miss the very impact He seeks to have on our lives.
3 Speak to Your Mountain
Until a believer can speak to the mountains in their lives, there is little hope for proper growth.
4 Seasons
Understanding that life develops and progresses in seasons guides us to realize where we are and where we need Jesus' healing hand applied.
5 Trauma Mountains
Recognizing trauma and its effect on our lives gives us hope of healing and a focus on real issues and not the fake obstacles the enemy tries to distract us with.
6 Overcoming Negative Seasons
Without the overcoming, healing power of Jesus in our lives those seasons where we received our wounds threaten to lock us away from natural growth opportunities.
7 Mountains, Walls and Strongholds
Recognizing the mountains, walls and the strongholds we build allows us to focus on what is obstructing our personal growth and seek the healing only Jesus can provide.
8 Truth versus Fact
Lots of people bring the facts of the world and our wounds into the church. The truth of God brings healing but facts only point out our wounds, doing nothing to aid the healing process.
9 Growth is All About Seeking New Levels
Wounds are designed to make us stay in a season and hide. Wounds cause us to stop. When we seek healing, it helps us move back to proper growth processes.
10 God Hates When Orphans are Created
God hates things that don't get finished. Every Christian ministry touches someone who comes under that ministry's care. To abandon a ministry often inflicts more wounds on the already wounded.
11 Recognize Who God Is
Yes, God is love, but He is also righteous and holy. He never changes. We can only seek our healing if we seek to also know God.
12 Turn All Evil Away
We musty get back to the unadulterated worship of our God and living holy lives before Him. Holiness is a major part of healing our woundedness.
13 Live Where You Are
God is great enough that He can reach us wherever we are. We do not need special conditions to receive our healing. God ministers to us wherever He finds us, however He finds us.
14 Know Who You Are
Too many people today live defeated, wounded lives. Learning who God made us to be and realizing His power working in us will speed our healing process and grow our relationship with God.
15 Know Whose You Are
Our woundedness causes us to disconnect from God. We need to heal. A disconnected church has no real power with God and is of no real help to their community.
16 Wholeness
Anything that keeps us away from God is sin. Our woundedness causes us to hide from others and God and create a disconnection whether we mean to or not. Wholeness is part of healing.
17 Tithe Unto the Lord
Our woundedness keeps us from buying into all that God has for us. Part of the healing process is recognizing that God is our protector and supply in all things.
18 Minister of God
Wounded people have been hurt. We can only give out what we have inside. Hurt people hurt people. Real ministers seek total healing so they can guide others to their own healing.
19 False Doctrines
Many false doctrines creep into the church on the backs of hurting, wounded folks who are just trying to stay comfortable in today's crazy world. Healing requires cleaning out the church.
20 Pray with Power
There is no power in the prayer of the wounded. They are divided in their minds, therefore unstable. Seeking our healing with Jesus causes our prayer life to grow immensely.
21 Understand All People
Wounded people don't want to appear wounded most of the time. Even the strongest among us carries some wounds. We must learn and teach proper healing with Jesus for everyone.
22 Always Fulfill Your Purpose
Woundedness keeps us from reaching our purpose with God. Seeking our healing puts us back on the road to being God's Bride, called for His purpose.
23 Spiritual Warfare
The battle is purely spiritual even while we navigate our physical lives. Seeking out God's healing helps us balance the physical and spiritual obstacles in our lives.
24 Meaning What We Say
Wounded people use words to hide behind, never fully meaning what they say. Healed people say exactly what they mean with power and authority.
25 The Blood
Wounded people hide from the blood, believing themselves to be unworthy of such a magnificent God. Healed people hide under the blood, knowing Jesus is the way.
26 Anointing Oil
Wounded people do not trust in much but themselves. Healed people trust in the Lord and His Holy Spirit and live lives that drip with the anointing of God's presence.
27 Fasting
Wounded people are at the mercy of their appetites. Healed people submit their fleshly being to the authority of their spirit man and to God's Holy Spirit.
28 Foot Washing
Wounded people have difficulty with humbleness. They are afraid to seem weak. Healing allows us to show our weaknesses to each other and to God.
29 Laying on of Hands
Wounded people have no power to help others in their path for healing because we are busy hiding our own wounds. Healing allows God to work in us and through us to touch others with His power.
30 Cast Out Devils
Wounded people have no idea how they commune with the devils that have wounded them. Only through a relationship with Jesus do we recognize our demons and push them away.
31 Communion
Wounded people don't commune. Communion connotes sharing and gathering. Wounded people don't share, they hide. True healing is required for true communion.
32 Two Kinds of People
There are people separated from God, headed for hell, and followers of Christ headed for heaven. Our woundedness is designed to keep us in the category of separated from God. We need Christ's healing.
33 Unholy Things
Wounded people collect unholy things to comfort themselves and make them feel more powerful than their wounds allow. The healing process rids our lives of the unholy things.
34 The Four Tenets of Love
Woundedness affects our Faith, Unity, Purpose and Fruit. Wounded people have trouble feeling loved and giving love. Through Christ's healing the balance can be restored and love can be fully embraced.
35 Time, Treasure and Talent
Wounded people are guarded people. They do not give up their Time, Treasure or Talent easily or fully to God. As we heal, we give more of ourselves to God and to the ministry of His people.
36 The Big Question
We call ourselves Christians, but are we really followers of Christ? Is our woundedness keeping us from truly following Christ? How much more would we be doing if we were whole and healed?
Book One – Healing the Church
Author's Note – A Beginning
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. (Ephesians 5:27)
If this is what Jesus is looking for, how many of our churches, really, how many of our church people, fit this description? We are all too busy citing Romans 3:23, For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; to justify our lives of sin and sinful acceptance of the world's comforts and conveniences. This work is an evaluation of biblical principles and truths. How do we stack up against the word? Not against the world, but against God's word. It's not a matter of being good enough. Are we good? Are we good with God?
This series of books was birthed out of a desire to see true healing in my own life. As I read and discovered God's word on this subject I was also made aware that many around me were not living healed lives, either. As I talked with others and dove more deeply into the subject, it became apparent that many, if not all, in the church suffer from some kind of brokenness. What was worse, I did not see the church offering any kind of healing process. In fact, I saw that within the church, the very church itself, there was a pattern of operating in brokenness that kept the church from getting to God in any significant way. Brokenness has become the legacy of the current church.
