About this ebook
In "The Boy and the Bird", a lonely boy walks through the park with his new pet bird in its cage. He stops to talk to an elder feeding the pigeons. The old man shares from his personal experience what it’s like to live in a cage, leaving the kid to discover the definition of compassion.
Miguel wakes up without a clue of where he is in "At the Edge". He finds himself in the middle of a funeral with a cloaked figure by his side. The familiar faces make him fear the worst as the figure tries to help him settle into this new reality.
Death doesn't have time. In "the Clock Hand", Max comes home late to an upset mother. She's tired of his lack of responsibility, and he's become apathetic to her rage. In the end, they both need to understand how to deal with the loss of the father and come together as a family. The fight can last as long as it goes, but the clock won't stop ticking.
In "Vlad: The Owner" Tommy tries to convince his older brother Mark to watch a horror movie with him, but Mark's too afraid. Bored and frustrated, Tommy goes to his room by himself. Later that night, Mark goes to apologize to Tommy, but his room is empty. On the computer screen are the summoning instructions for Vlad: The Owner.
Michael and Jessica try to steal a piece of art from David Steinfeld Gallery in "Only Child". Michael is hesitant because of his connection to the exposition, but Jessica won't be dissuaded as this is her ticket to early retirement.

About the Author
THE BOY AND THE BIRD
The bird was a beautiful parakeet, with a light blue chest, white wings, and a white head. The kid walked through the park with the animal in his cage.
The place was calm. The grass was brightened by the sun at noon. The sound of the water attracted the kid to a humble lake. Above it, there was a bridge. The boy walked across it. On the other side, there was an elder. He was sitting on a chair, feeding the birds.
Can I sit here?
asked the boy.
Sure,
responded the man.
