Larisa Long

Larisa Long writes young adult urban fantasy/paranormal romance and reverse harem romance (which has quickly become an obsession). She lives with her husband and a group of ever expanding rescue animals (and possibly some paranormals) in the Pacific Northwest.

    Prologue

Ren sauntered to me. Where were we? He snaps his fingers, and I’m wearing the same black dress I was at the time. Don’t need to give them more of a show. He put his hands under my dress and pulls off my panties. He wads them up and shoves them into his back pocket.

No bare asses on the banister? Wouldn’t want the delicate Cassandra to get a splinter. He repeats exactly what he said before.

I notice he’s wearing a white buttoned up shirt.

He follows my gaze. Thought maybe you’d want to touch me. Easier than taking off my entire shirt.

Wouldn’t want to give them a show. I rip open the shirt and run my hands up and down his chest. Excellent thinking. I love touching you. I unzip his pants and grab all of him.

He put his head back and groans. And I love it when you touch me. When you take control of me.

I try to ignore Makus’ moans behind Ren. He’s just going to have to deal.

    Makus sighs. This is torture.

I pull Ren towards me, and he gently pushes inside me.

This time I don’t lose my balance.

I’ve got you, Ren says. Always. Trust me.

I look into his eyes. I do. Always.

His jaw tenses, his muscles shake as he tries to control his movements. I want this to last. I want you to take all of me. He lifts me gently as he pushes in to the hilt.

I suck on his bottom lip as he groans. I slowly let go of him. I let myself lean backwards until there’s nothing except Ren holding me. He grabbed my legs, and I lock them behind him.

I let my arms fly free as I look at the ground upside down as Ren intensifies his movements slowly. Slow but steady. I move with him automatically like we were made for each other.

    Not too thrusty?

I shake my head. Perfect. I can feel everything like this. I close my eyes as I let my body feel every exquisite inch of him. My Ren. My angel.

Ren groans as he hears those words I just said over and over in his mind like he’s put them on repeat. He slowly thrusts in before inching his way back out. He does this again and again. Each time he surges inside, he holds himself still as my insides ache to hold onto him.

How do you have such control?

He grunts something, and I realize it takes all his control.

I close my eyes and try to make the moment last, but I can’t control my body anymore. I gasp, and Ren stills inside me.

Sorry. I let myself return to normal. My body can’t keep up with all of you.

He shakes his head as he tries to catch his breath. That was perfect.

Just you and me. I touch his chest and feel his heart beating so fast. My Ren.

My Cassandra. He presses his forehead to mine, and we let ourselves return to normal. Better without the demon.

Hello? Makus screeches behind us. I’m still here.

I ignore Makus. I always forget to breath.

Ren nods, and maybe he does too.

Amazing. I don’t even mind the wolves looking up at me. I stretch out further as Ren tightens his grip still deep inside me. I could do this forever. I feel so free. Safe.

That’s how that should have gone last time. He slowly pulls out of me and hands me back my panties, and I’m zapped back to my normal jeans and snappy shirt.

I glance around and see that Syn is watching from the door way, and he doesn’t look like he’s even taken a breath since he started watching us.

Makus just stares at us. His intense expression begins to relax as his eyes slowly return to blue. He looks like he’s spent, run a marathon.

I sit back down at the table. Wolves got your tongue, Makus? I put my finger to my chin like he did. You once said that I was all you ever wanted and never knew to ask for. That I am—

… my everything, Makus said out of breath. I pledge myself to you for all eternity. I need no one else. I have no soul, but I pledge everything that I am and will ever be to you. Always.

I stare at Makus. You remember that?

He shakes his head. It’s what I always say to you. Every day. He studies Ren. You could have gone longer. It’s was over before it began.

I didn’t want to tire Cassandra out.

Fuck that. He looks at me quickly. No offense. That was more to offend him and not you. Makus shrugged at Ren. If you get to do it, then I get to say it.

Vella appears, and I practically jump out of my skin.

Makus closes his eyes and sighs. Way to spoil my mood, mother. I was all ready to take Caz into the other room or practice on the banister like Ren just did.

Yes, I did wait until you were done.

I cringe. Yikes. I look at Ren. Thought you said we couldn’t be seen.

She isn’t natural so … He looks at her with a coldness that I’m glad he’s never used on me even when he was angry. What is it?

    It’s happening.

I take another cupcake and rip off the paper and devour it.

Did you hear me? She asks me directly.

Makus put his hand up to her. Never interrupt her snacks. She’s carbing up for me. I am more than a handful.

I laugh which causes a chain reaction in Makus and then Ren and even a smile from Syn.

Honestly. Vella rolls her eyes. The war is beginning.

At least you didn’t send the fuckwad twins, Makus hisses. They always sour Caz’s mood.

Vella folds her arms across her chest. They are dead.

Makus jumped up. Why didn’t you say something? Cupcakes for everyone, he screams.

Wolves howl in the distance. Even the mice family which I thought had long since abandoned us comes out of hiding for the celebration.

How did they die? Ren asks.

Lollypop accident? Sorry. I had to ask it.

Makus shakes his head and giggles. Lollypop.

Vella sighs and put her hand up to her head like it’s too much for her to handle all of us. It’s Lucifer.

Makus stops grinning immediately, and I feel Ren tense beside me.

What about him? Makus asks as nonchalantly as he can pretend.

Vella leans down on the table so she has all of our attention. That’s just it. I have no idea.

What do you mean? Ren asks.

    He isn’t in hell.

Makus jumps up. He can’t leave hell. That’s part of the agreements.

This is what I am saying. Vella sits down quickly and dabs at her eyes. Everything will change when they find out.

When they find out? Ren looks around. You just announced it. He motions around to the sky.

    She cringes.

You are not that stupid. Makus sighs at her. You wanted this.

She leans back in the chair. So what if I did?

I glance up as booms like fireworks echo around us. Things are falling from the sky. They look like clouds but moving very fast. No cloud moves like that.

Ren looks up and then glares at his mother. Some of the angels are falling, aren’t they? The ones already tempted?

    Vella shrugged.

Then growls can be heard around us. Makus runs to the banister and looks over. And some of the demons are rising? He points to me.

Ren pulls me close to him and wraps his arms around me.

Syn stands on the other side of me.

Again Vella shrugged. I think this world has become too complacent.

So you’re planning on ripping it from the inside out? Ren growls.

Vella’s eyes lock with mine. Maybe that depends on her.

Shit. If you think I’m going to choose …

Makus rushes in front of me so I’m literally surrounded by them.

    No choice, my child.

I peer around Makus so I can see her face, and I really wish I hadn’t. She becomes much more monstrous than her normal beauty. Her skin becomes translucent, and her features are more harsh, bloodied and raw. It’s almost like she’s decaying before my eyes.

Even Makus tenses in front of me. What are you doing? Why are you appearing to Caz like that?

The choice has already been made for you, child.

    Makus
