    Chapter 2

    Introduction

One Came Home by Amy Timberlake was first published in 2013. It is a children’s historical novel. The story is set in Wisconsin in 1871.

The book became very popular right after its publication, and it won the Edgar Award for Best Juvenile Mystery Award in 2014. In the same year, it received a Newbery Honor Award.

One Came Home received highly positive reviews after its publication. Most newspapers, including the Washington Post, Kirkus Reviews, Bookpage, Bank Street, and National Public Radio, named One Came Home the best book of the year. Since the story is set in Wisconsin in 1871, the author presents Wisconsin as the Wild West. The story revolves around a particular shootout.

    Chapter 3

    Plot Overview

The story begins in 1871 in Wisconsin. Georgie Burkhardt is the protagonist of the novel.

As the novel opens, she is staring down into a grave. That open grave, as people say, belongs to Georgie’s sister, Agatha. However, Georgie does not believe it.

The Sheriff, McCabe, happens to have found Agatha’s dead body. Georgie’s mother and grandfather Bolte try to convince her that it is her sister’s body, but Georgie is not convinced. She decides to set out on her own to find out what had really happened to Agatha, her sister.

Agatha’s ex-boyfriend is Billy. Georgie does not want to, but eventually she lets him accompany her on her road trip to Dog Hollow, Wisconsin.

Agatha had gone to Dog Hollow with a few pigeoners, but she disappeared after that and never returned home.

While travelling to Dog Hollow, Georgie remembers everything that had happened between her and her sister, between Agatha and her ex-boyfriend Billy, and Agatha and her new friend, Mr. Benjamin Olmstead, right from the time of the arrival of pigeons in February.

They follow a lead and reach the Garrow family’s farm that is situated outside the town. When they are on the farm, they are informed that Darlene Garrow, a young woman about Agatha’s age, with the
