Chapter 3
Plot Overview
The story begins in 1871 in Wisconsin. Georgie Burkhardt is the protagonist of the novel.
As the novel opens, she is staring down into a grave. That open grave, as people say, belongs to Georgie’s sister, Agatha. However, Georgie does not believe it.

Agatha’s ex-boyfriend is Billy. Georgie does not want to, but eventually she lets him accompany her on her road trip to Dog Hollow, Wisconsin.
Agatha had gone to Dog Hollow with a few pigeoners, but she disappeared after that and never returned home.
While travelling to Dog Hollow, Georgie remembers everything that had happened between her and her sister, between Agatha and her ex-boyfriend Billy, and Agatha and her new friend, Mr. Benjamin Olmstead, right from the time of the arrival of pigeons in February.
They follow a lead and reach the Garrow family’s farm that is situated outside the town. When they are on the farm, they are informed that Darlene Garrow, a young woman about Agatha’s age, with the
