About this ebook
Suspenseful and richly atmospheric, June Hur's The Forest of Stolen Girls is a haunting historical mystery sure to keep readers guessing until the last page.
1426, Joseon (Korea). Hwani's family has never been the same since she and her younger sister went missing and were later found unconscious in the forest near a gruesome crime scene.
Years later, Detective Min—Hwani's father—learns that thirteen girls have recently disappeared from the same forest that nearly stole his daughters. He travels to their hometown on the island of Jeju to investigate… only to vanish as well.
Determined to find her father and solve the case that tore their family apart, Hwani returns home to pick up the trail. As she digs into the secrets of the small village—and collides with her now estranged sister, Maewol—Hwani comes to realize that the answer could lie within her own buried memories of what happened in the forest all those years ago.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great story. Great characters. The story moves at a good pace. Great mystery.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5As good, if not better than her debut novel. Like that one, this features a very strong female protagonist solving a mystery in a time period when women were almost less than human in terms of rights and treatment. The setting, characters and the mystery are all well crafted. I read this in one sitting. I very much look forward to more by this author.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I have been waiting for June Hur to write another Korean historical mystery since I fell in love with The Silence of Bones. Set in 1400’s Korea when girls had no freedom, Hur has again been able to write a novel with a strong, intelligent female protagonist. 18-year-old Min Hwani leaves the mainland for the island of Jeju. She reunites with an estranged sister in hopes of finding their father and 13 missing girls. He was investigating their disappearance when he disappeared. Hur is successful, not only in creating a believable mystery but in creating the world of 15th century Korea and in creating multi-dimensional characters. Its well-plotted with a satisfying ending.
