FALL OF THE
BLACK PRIEST
By G. Russell Gaynor
I.
To all things there is a beginning...
"That woman!" he thought, his light brown eyes slowly opening as he awakened from a very restful and assisted deep sleep. He rose slowly from the pillow, and his eyes narrowed, bracing for the tell-tale pain. But there was no twinge. Nothing came from his neck and shoulders which normally received a sharp, stabbing pain whenever he awakened from a deep sleep. He chuckled at its absence, lifting his hand to his forehead. He rubbed down over his eyes before letting his hand move back over his clean-shaven head and smooth, dark brown skin.
Did she endeavor to bathe me as well?
he whispered, lifting the sheet to examine his naked body. He closed his eyes, smiling at the scent of her... the scent of both of them... and all that had happened since he arrived at the bed so many hours ago.
And risk thy ire upon waking,
she asked softly, entering the bedchamber carrying a service tray. A light seemed to emanate from inside the woman, shining through her vanilla skin. Her crystal blue eyes smiled at the man and he was warmed at the sight of her comely frame. "There art many things I would risk, mine heart. Many things we hath both challenged. That, however, be not a fight I shalt endeavor to engage.
Didst thou find respite in thy slumber?
she asked, placing the tray down in front of him.
Adri,
he said in a tone of warning. You promised you would try.
Keeping her smile as she pressed her lips together, the fair-haired woman allowed her eyes to close as she thought for a moment. Did you sleep well?
Thank you,
he said, nodding at the woman while taking hold of her hand. Yes, I did... but wasn’t that the aim?
Aim?
Adrianna!
Take not such tones with–
she stammered before starting again. "Don’t take that tone with me. I am your wife, and I love you. I won’t be questioned or even criticized for taking care of my husband... not even from my husband."
Then perhaps we should leave it at that I slept well,
he smiled before kissing her hand.
That sounds like the best course of action to take,
she replied before kissing his forehead.
Ungh!
he grunted, letting his chin drop to his chest. That was too sweet a dismissal.
Smiling as she moved away from the bed, Adrianna returned, Kador is about to wake up. He needs to be fed and changed.
[And you are not the only one who can feel him, my love,] he telepathically projected, engaging in his telekinesis to bring her back to the side of the bed. [Let me tend to my son.]
[Our son,] she returned, lifting the tray with her mind to allow him an easier exit from the bed. [Yes, you are indeed Zargo, of the Blood of Xargagyan, Black Priest of the Omega Clan Crimson Court. But do not forget–]
[I could sooner forget how to breathe than overlook the greatest gift the universe ever gave this most unworthy fool!] Zargo asserted, moving quickly to wrap his arm around Adrianna’s waist. She gasped at the speed of his movement and the ease with which he lifted her from the floor, bringing her lips to his.
Her hands went quickly to his shoulders, taking tight hold as her heart was once again made to burst and fly in the same moment. Her mind reeled in the sensation, like she was being kissed for the first time in her life. It was one of the most awesome powers of his love, and she could never find room to doubt his affection and devotion.
My man is many things,
she whispered after their lips finally parted. But he is no fool. That was not the kiss of a fool.
Another unresolved argument,
he said softly before kissing her again. She moaned at his
