Authors Note
I’ve never been one to say goodbye easily and I’ve never been one to say goodbye at all, so, this book is filled with a lot of dread. It wasn’t my direct intention, but I constantly kept writing these pages to encapsulate the deep and masked thoughts that sometimes exist. These pages are a diverse collection of song lyrics I have written over the years, fictional thoughts and non-fictional thoughts I have finally, courageously, decided to share.
That said, the majority of this book takes place in 2021. The most intense and surreal year of my life so far. It was filled with so much greatness, love and friendship. It was also countered by heartbreak, self-loathing, invalidation, and abuse of my love and worth.
Not knowing what is real or fake in this book is the most intriguing part of it for me and I hope it will be to you as well. This is my first ever piece of writing outside of journalism that I have published, and I have also taken into account that a lot of the readers are people who solely caused some of these pages to exist how they do, whether good or bad.
I wanted this to be the first introduction to my writing (though I am working on other visual and textual projects) because each page elicits and provokes a different emotion, thought, reality and realization. I just hope you will see that within these pages is the vulnerability and the emotional weight I carried at eighteen and in my first semester of college.
I want to thank anyone who actually bought this book, whether because they felt intrigued or because I had told them of its existence. I appreciate you so much.
When it comes to creativity, one of the craziest things I’ve learned by observation
of artists, is that there is literally no right. No matter who makes what or how, nothing can please everyone. It truly is one of the worst things about being a creator (in my opinion). As a creator and artist, it is hard to release something you’re so specific about and want to be perfect because you’ve been taught only perfection can make you. Now, I try not to let perfection be a reason to hold me back. This book is an example of that.
I’ve learned that if I hold a product back and keep re-reading and editing ... nothing will ever get completed. I am nervous of releasing this book and also seeing you read it and criticize it, how it effects your emotions or how upsetting it is to you. I just hope you can let me, as an artist, learn what happens.
You’re about to read a poetry book written by an eighteen / nineteen- year- old teenager that is comprised of thoughts, experiences, journal entries and ideas from my present and past and how other people’s actions have impacted them. I hope, if what you did as a person is talked about in this book, you will have an open mind. Many of the emotions on these pages have changed. Some have stayed the same. Some aren’t even real.
I hope you enjoy
