William Cuthbert Faulkner is considered one of the most celebrated American writers of the modern era. He is the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature.
Faulkner was born on September 25th, 1897, in New Albany, Mississippi. He was the first of four sons of Murry Cuthbert Falkner and Maud Butler.
Faulkner was a versatile writer, and during his writing career he wrote novels, short stories, a play, poetry, essays, and screenplays. However, he is well known for his novels and short stories.
Many of his short stories are set in a fictional county called Yoknapatawpha. The setting was created by Faulkner on the basis of Lafayette County, where Faulkner’s childhood was spent. The other counties are Holly Springs and Marshall County.
Faulkner finds his place among the great writers like Mark Twain, Robert Penn Warren, Flannery O’Connor, Truman Capote, Eudora Welty, Thomas Wolfe, Harper Lee, and Tennessee Williams, who are considered to be the most significant
