VOLUME I: RETRIBUTION
By Kixi Rajki
In the year CE 3042.
Situated on a desolate moon in a nameless system in a remote region of the Sajnen Neutral Zone, the prison hold on Bladestrider Raven Skyhawk’s military base of operations proved to be everything I had imagined it would be. A cavernous vault of steel, it was filled with catwalks, checkpoints, and identity scanners. The detention cells were arrayed to the right side of the main access tunnel, stacked six high in four long rows. There had to be a thousand units, and the volume of yellow light pouring through the see-through blaster proof doors suggested that most were occupied. Locating Braj’tec’s cell was going to be a problem, and I didn’t have time for problems. If I expected to have any chance of killing Raven, I had to find him before she found me— and she had half the security teams on the base already searching for me.
The clank clank of boot heels on deck steel echoed up the corridor. A pair of guards rounded a corner about fifteen metres ahead, emerging from a short side hall labelled ‘Infirmary Checkpoint’. I pulled my prisoner— Maeve, a female security officer now wearing my own Zhann Alliance uniform— across to my side, opposite the guards.

Maeve replied. I’d rather live.
Good,
I said. I’d rather let you.
Maeve was a couple of centimetres shorter than me, and a little smaller, too. So my uniform was a tad baggy on her— but only someone with a sharp-eye would notice the poor fit. Maeve’s
