Ishtar's Embrace - Miss Ravensong
Chapter one
It was a night like any other when his life irrevocably changed forever. In fact, Jake would readily admit that he’d been quite bored. Bored and worried. After all, any day now, Damien’s goons would roll over with the intent of making an example out of him. Unless he could scrounge up the money. Somehow.
All that changed when the door to his bookstore opened, the tiny little bells hanging from it chiming merrily. The wind of change blowing inside for a few moments.
His mood immediately soured and he didn’t even look up from his book, so this was it, huh?
I told you, I don’t have the money—
Apologies, I believe you have me confused with someone else?
The ethereal, sensual voice made him halt mid-sentence.
Brows furrowing, he looked up, blinking in confusion as the slow realization filtered through his brain that this was an actual customer and not one of the mobster’s unwashed goons come to rearrange his kneecaps, plastering a smile across his face, he wiped the slight line of drool dripping down his shaved chin with a quick motion of his hand, and then slammed closed the book just as the enchanting woman came to a stop in front of his desk.

purred the otherworldly specter barging into his life, the paleness of her skin contrasting beautifully with her long dark dress, the low neckline, hinting at the tantalizing treasures barely contained within, struggling to get out and making Jake gulp as he tore his eyes away from the source of man’s hopes and dreams, hoping he’d been quick enough so as to not get caught staring. The amused upward tilt of the woman’s lips showed that to be a foolish hope.
At least she didn’t seem to mind.
N-not at all!
he said with a nervous smile, and straightened his back while trying to discreetly straighten the creases out of his white button up shirt a tad. I was just uh…
his eyed darted to the book in front of him for a moment and he shoved it to the side of the desk.
"Dracula, mmh? Not a
