    Introduction

Virtue, by biblical definition, is the fruit of the Holy Spirit evident in our lives. We are good when we bear these hallmark qualities of the Spirit within us and manifest them daily to those around us. Again, the specific qualities are listed in Scripture as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These traits are not something that a person owns; they are something a person does.

In other words, Love is not only a quality, but an action. The person who has love in his heart shows love through generous giving. Joy manifests itself in praise and in voicing words of encouragement to others. Peace manifests itself in calmness and an even temperament. And so forth. You will find inspirational quotes from men and women of God who have written about what true virtue is and where it comes from. They will inspire you to walk in these godly virtues, displaying them in your everyday actions. More than anything else, virtues are manifestations to the world of the righteousness of Jesus Christ. They emanate from a heart filled with and changed by the Word of God and the Holy Spirit.

Use this book as a daily devotional, or read the entries aloud to your spouse or children. You will be built up in the virtues God has given you and be a light to your world.
