21 Ways to Be Happy
()
About this ebook
This blessed book explains the meaning of true happiness, which is the ultimate goal of humans in this world.
Everyone is chasing happiness, but few are fully aware of what it is and where it comes from. Happiness is not a destination, but a journey that requires certain inner qualities and the right state of mind in order to experience and reap the rewards. It is not sold as a commodity and cannot be bought, but a person can only experience it by carefully improving his mindset, character, and by following a plan of action. For indeed, those who do not plan will not be able to achieve the desired results. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Those who are among us (destined to be) from people of happiness [in the Hereafter] (will find that it is easy) do the deeds of people of happiness…" [Sahih al-Bukhari, No. 4948].
Shaykh Nasir al-Saadi mentions twenty-one ways to achieve the goal of finding happiness, while driving away its opposites - sadness, grief and anxiety. Whoever follows these ways will find the path to happiness and success in this life and the next, In-sha-Allah.

21 Ways to Be Happy - Abdur Rahman Nasir As-Sadi
Author's Preface
Praise be to Allah, Who is worthy of it entirely. I testify that there is no true deity but Allah, Who has no partner, and I testify that Muhammad is His slave and His messenger, may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him, his family and his companions.
And then:
Truly, peace in the heart, the presence of serenity and joy in it, the elimination of anxiety and sadness - this is what everyone strives for, and this is what makes life beautiful.
There are several ways to achieve this: the religious way, the way corresponding to universal laws, and the practical way. But only a believer is given to use all the ways, and unbelievers, if they use any way and method, spending all their strength on it, are still deprived of many other ways that are more useful, more reliable and better in outcome.
In this treatise, I have mentioned some of the causes and means leading to this highest goal, which is the object of the aspiration of everyone. Among the people there are those who have embodied many of these causes, and have lived a wonderful life, being in prosperity and well-being. Some have failed in all sorts of ways and ways, and lived a miserable life, being in trouble and hardship. And some other people are between these two categories, the well-being and misfortunes of which are distributed according to the wisdom of the Almighty and Great Lord.
And only Allah leads to success, and only He should be asked to bestow good and protect from evil!
1 FAITH AND RIGHTEOUS ACTIONS
The most significant reason that underlies achievement of a good (happy) life is faith (iman) and righteous deeds.
The Almighty said:
The believing men and women who work righteousness, We will certainly give a beautiful life and We will bestow on such their reward according to the best of their actions.
(Quran; sura 16, ayat 97)
Almighty Allah promised everyone who combines faith and righteous deeds to give a wonderful life in this world, and reward in a beautiful way in the eternal world. And the reason for this is obvious; for the consequence of the right faith is righteous (good) deeds, and such faith ennobles the heart, perfects moral qualities, and puts in order the religious and worldly affairs. That is why believers (the Muslims) have all the principles and causes by which they find joy and happiness, and also get rid of anxieties, sorrows and worries.
When believers experience something that gives them joy, they accept it with gratitude, express gratitude for the mercy shown to them, and use it for that which benefits them. When they use what Allah has given in this way, it attracts even greater rejoicing, ensures the safety and grace of the bounties sent, and much more is granted, far exceeding what they possess.
And when the believers are touched by harmful and unpleasant, anxiety and sorrow, they meet them with moderate opposition and apply all possible forces to reduce their severity, and patiently endure what befell them. Thus, the hardships and troubles that befall a believer develop patience in him, teach him practical ways of confrontation, and he draws useful experience from all this. That is, it turns out to be good for him in worldly affairs, but in addition, it is also good in religious affairs, because for patiently enduring hardships and hoping for reward, the servant of Allah receives a reward. All this are the positive consequences of trials, in which the very troubles, hardships, and difficulties simply disappear.
This principle is clearly expressed in the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): How wonderful is the position of the believer! Indeed, everything in his position is good for him, and this is not given to anyone except the believer: if something pleases him, he thanks Allah, and this becomes good for him, but if grief befalls him, he shows patience, and this also becomes a boon for him
Muslim No. 2999.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said that the believer always wins, and the good and the fruits of his deeds multiply, regardless of whether adversity befell him or he is in prosperity.
Therefore, you can see how two people experience the same blessings or misfortunes, but each, depending on his faith and his deeds, perceives them completely differently. A person who has faith and does good deeds thanks Allah in joy and shows patience in trouble. He hopes that very soon Allah will grant him prosperity and save him from the misfortunes that have befallen him. All this helps the believer to endure any hardships more easily and joy arises in him, sadness and anxiety disappear, and an unhappy life turns into a wonderful earthly life.
An unbeliever, or a weak believer, when he is given a blessing and that which gives him joy, responds to this
