The Oregon Migration was one of the most important events in American History.
The 2,000 mile trek from Missouri to Oregon was made by 500,000 people. 40,000 of those people were children.
I am an ox. Oliver Ox to be more precise. All my friends call me Ollie. I am 2,000 pounds of solid muscle. In short, I am one spectacular specimen.
I used to live on a farm in Hannibal, Missouri, with the Tylers. When I first moved to the farm, I thought I was supposed to sleep in the house with the rest of the family but ...
It turned out the barn had a bigger door, so I decided to sleep out there instead.
Like most oxen, I am patient, durable, gentle, and I eat just about anything. These great traits, along with my size and tremendous strength, are what led Mr. Tyler to ask me to accompany him on the long journey he and his family took in the year 1843.
I am not one to boast but, I, Ollie, an ox born of humble roots, am the star of this story. I have also appointed myself narrator because no one can tell a tale as well as I can.
As I have already mentioned, I am part of the Tyler family: Mr. Tyler, Mrs. Tyler, and their son, Johnny.
OOPS! I almost forgot to mention a very important member of our family —
our dog, Max.
One evening, after finishing up a hard day of work in the fields of our Missouri farm, Mr. Tyler made a surprise announcement to his family.
"I have news! Great news! We are going to Oregon in a covered wagon! We will start out by traveling to Independence,
