A Curious Mix in Free Verse
()
About this ebook
This collection by Lindy Warrell has no pretensions other than to invite readers to dance to the tune of a curious mix of words held together by the absence of form: free verse.
Each poem strikes a mood with variations from serious or dark to light and funny. Some are wise, others nonsensical with the overall aim to entertain.<

This mix of free verse is like the random jam of a jazz band, it makes you listen, smile and feel the rhythms of humanity. An anthropologist, Lindy Warrell is a keen observer of people; with apt imagery and sharp wit, she captures a familiar world. Warrell’s poems take you to the truth of trees, to lusty youth and the not-so-funny joke of old age. Rich and bold as a golden sax, Warrell’s poems celebrate strong women, ancestors, birds and wildlife, and the gift of being alive. These memorable, no-holds-barred poems resonate long after reading.
Jude Aquilina
This is a superbly constructed anthology of free verse which challenges and is seared with examples of human vulnerability, along with humour, dark moments and tender insight. There’s much to enjoy and savour in Lindy Warrell’s A Curious Mix of Free Verse, not least in concluding lines such as — we’d probably die out if we were potatoes — and a telling summation of how we glow in the sunshine of love. Lindy has the poet’s true instinct of recording impressions wherever she finds herself.
Roger Rees
I dedicate this book to the splendidly permissive state of old age. Those of us who get here are grateful. To those on the way, enjoy.
