About this ebook

I've always had a thing for monsters.

That's why I started my costume shop. And I know what you're thinking: Geez, Bee, some rich dude just giving you a whole building in the middle of LA is obviously going to have a major catch. You know what I expected? Maybe some skeevy pick-up lines, a rotting pile of garbage, bad neighbors… a few ghosts.

I didn't expect a portal to a monster-god prison would be in the basement. Or that I'd be seduced by shadows.

And after they bring me pleasure I'll never be able to recreate, they tell me it's up to me to save the world.

Enthralled by Shadows is a short prequel to Sacrificed to Monster Gods, a 13-part mostly-standalone erotic monster romance series. The story of Bee and Nothing will be completed in the final book.

Enthralled by Shadows - Latrexa Nova

To the people who yell at dumbasses in horror movies for making bad decisions.

Sometimes bad decisions can be very, very good.

CHAPTER ONE

Prologue

NOTHING

FOR THE FIRST time in centuries, our prison feels like one.

Her scent rides the wind until it finds us. Her smile, her glee is not for us… but one day it will be.

For centuries, we watched how the others railed against the binding. The peacocking—asserting they would be the ones to break free.

But we are not like the other gods. No prison can hold us. We are here because we are meant to be. Because we know we must be contained.

When we first found the cracks, found the openings left by the humans… we did not tell the others. We had no desire to share the knowledge. Let them stay in their prison, simmer down so they would not destroy the outside world as we all nearly did back then.

We were content, for so long, to help hold them at bay. Take the small offerings gifted from the humans and pass them on.

Until her hand pressed against our heartbeat.

It is said that only a True Offering can tame a god. One whose soul was designed to slake our thirst.

This one is ours.

We will have her. Whatever it takes, she will be ours.

CHAPTER TWO

A Thing for Monsters

BEE

I’VE ALWAYS HAD a thing for monsters.

As I look around the dark, empty shop, I imagine them—the masks hanging over the walls, the aisles full of costumes and makeup. I’ve been selling out of my apartment for so long, it unsettles me having all this space. It’s mine. My store. All the years of bad credit, finally gone, all the denied bank loans irrelevant as I finally stand on my own two feet.

If the world wouldn’t believe in me, the least I could do was believe in myself. That’s been my motto for the past five years. Against all odds. I am the master of my own destiny.

I spin around and let out It’s finally mine!

The words echo off the walls, warping and twisting until they don’t sound like my voice anymore.

The perfect vibe for a costume shop just before Halloween.

It’s crazy to think how lucky I am. When I got too big for the apartment, I had this nagging thought to just go wild—put together a business plan and crowdsource. Figured I had enough customers to get a modest little storefront with a bit of help. Then one of my backers contacted me and started talking to me about my ideas—roleplaying events and themed areas for photoshoots, a small theatre to do shadowcasts and shows—told me if my ideas were that big they had a place just the right size in Burbank. Said it just needed a little cleaning up, but for a modest part in the company they were happy to help make my dreams come true. It almost felt like fate.

And yes, I was skeptical. Deeply skeptical. But once I met Greg in
