    Facts about AIDS

    Introduction

AIDS, a disease caused by a virus known as Human Immuno deficiency virus (HIV). It is one of the biggest epidemic, which the world has to face today. Epidemic means a disease, which is widespread in the community that will affect many people. The only way to stop or to reduce the spread of the HIV virus is to create awareness among people about the disease and thereby making them to take necessary precautions to avoid the infection of HIV virus.

So purpose or goal of the book is to educate the general public about the disease and make them to take necessary precautions. The book will explain the scientific facts about AIDS as for as possible in simple terms. The standard of the look will be High School Standard. A few references will be given wherever it is necessary.

The book will be divided into 2 parts. The first part will give scientific facts about AIDS. The title of second part will be AIDS prevention and Christian teachings. In this part we will explain how Christian scriptural teachings will be used in the prevention AIDS.

The book is divided into 2 parts because the people who are interested to know about the Christian teachings can buy both the parts and those who are not interested will buy only the first part and know about the scientific facts related to AIDS.

    Importance of taking Preventive measures:

Till now we do not have any medicine to cure the disease AIDS. The possibility of developing a vaccine is very remote. So at present all we can do is take preventive measure and thereby we can save many lives. The following quotation emphasis the need for taking preventive measures. The committee finds no credible evidence that the AIDS epidemic will cease in the foreseeable future in this country. As a result prevention efforts remains critically important.

AIDS is not only a medical problem. It affects the social, economic life of the people so it is a socio economic problem, which must be tackled in time. We must spend millions of rupees to treat HIV patients. At present we have only medicines, which will increase the life expectancy of the people with AIDS (PWA). Increase in life expectancy means, if a HIV patients may die within 5 years after acquiring the infection the medicine will made him to live 3 more years.

    Chapter - 2

Origin or Evolution of HIV virus:

We may ask the question how all of a sudden the HIV virus come and infect the people? There is no definite answer to this question. But there are many theories or hypothesis, which speaks about the origin or evolution of the HIV virus.

    1. The most accepted theory is the one, which states that HIV virus is a result of mutation of simeon virus found in monkeys in Africa. Africans usually kill and eat monkey’s meat while killing and skinning the monkey the simian virus may have entered the killer’s blood stream and mutated into the HIV virus and spread to the other human beings through sexual contact. The theory is  idely accepted because the Simeon virus is genetically the same as the HIV virus.

The meaning of the term mutation:

The term mutation means a alteration or change in the gene. A gene is a molecule, which transmits hereditary character from one generation to the other. All the characters of the living organisms is determined by the genes in them. If an unusual change occurs in the genetic material in an organism it is technically known as a mutation and it may result in a new organism. HIV virus is the result of one such mutation.

    2. The second theory about the origin or evolution of the HIV virus says that it is the results of an experiment in genetic engineering laboratory.

It is an experiment, which is conducted to discover a new organism, which will be used in the biological warfare. The scientists in the laboratory produced an organism, which will attack and destroy the human immune system.

Immune system in the human body is a system which is responsible for the protection of the human body from the germs like bacteria, virus etc. This newly discovered virus is capable
