    Foreword

Dr. Cathy Elebo is a Healthcare Administrator who currently resides in the state of Virginia United States. She was born and raised in the Eastern part of Nigeria. She also achieved her tertiary education in Texas Southern University and served in different positions from University lecturer, a Clerk to the State House of Assembly, Political Advisers and Chief of protocol to the state first lady and Education Commission Principal. Although Dr. Elebo has published and co-authored other books, this book is special for the fact that it focuses on health Matters of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

Over the past thirty years, the world we live in and the health care industry has seen all kinds of health scare. It is ironic that I will be writing this foreword at this present time in history that the world is faced with novel pandemic of the coronavirus COVID-19. Only a few decades ago, the HIV was identified as a pandemic that if not treated, it can lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). At the time, there was fear of instant death attached to the diagnosis of HIV.

The oportunity to write this foreword is one that I will cherish for the rest of my life. The Author of this book Dr. Catherine Elebo is a phenomenal woman of integrity that I met many years ago under a significant circumstance. Our road crossed through organization membership and conflict. We both belonged to an association that was undergoing a strong discord triggered by concrete conflict of values and interests amongst persons and a leader with personal intentions and deceits. I became the only lone voice addressing the truth which unfortunately fell to a lot of deaf ears. In particular there were barriers (of unwillingness to admit problem, one-sided perception, judgmental arrogance, wrong baselines, and unwillingness to compromise on the part of the organization leadership) towards the conflict resolution. However, one surprising swift action by Dr. Cathy Elebo brought the entire conflict to a crashing forceful resolution. I was stunned by the quality of Dr. Cathy Elebo honesty and her strong moral principles and uprightness amidst possible rejection and ostracizing by her partisan group. She took action and resolved the organization conflict. It has been over 10 years and I have remained in deep friendship full of respectful and continue admiration of Dr. Cathy Elebo. She is a true woman of integrity.

It takes an extraordinary individual to really be capable to focus on identifying with all people that surround them. Taking concentration off of the condition and assigning the focus on the significance and purpose is the effort of a truly extraordinary person. When I found myself in a situation where I felt alone and in an emotional pain during an organizational crisis, Dr. Cathy Elebo’s action uplifted my spirit and gave me hope that being focused on the truth is the right thing to do. As a Board certified Nurse Practitioner I have been in the position of presenting the result of HIV positive to patients. As also a Board Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse practitioner, I have also been in the position of providing treatment and counseling to individuals dealing with emotional pains. This book, Deafeating HIV/AIDS will bring hope to individuals who found themselves alone and in emotional pain when they received the diagnosis of being HIV positive. The message of hope remains that although at the present time, there is no cure for HIV, antiretroviral therapy medications can suppress the virus to undetectable level. A person with HIV who takes HIV medicine as prescribed and gets and stays virally suppressed or undetectable can stay healthy and has effectively no risk of sexually transmitting HIV to HIV-negative partners (CDC, 2020).

Dr. Elebo has uthored this book on Defeating HIV/AIDS. She is one individual who believes and stand for the truth. As a health administrator, a researcher with strong integrity, sagacity, quest for finding, and believing in presenting the truth, she has put together a collection of information supported by several true life stories and scientific evidence to support the fact that HIV which once feared and considered an immediate death sentence has been defeated in so many ways and is no longer an instance death sentence. In fact, HIV/AIDS is now a defeated health challenge in which a person affected can live a full and fulfilling life if modern treatment modality is followed.
