A Twist of Faerie Magic

Dav flexed his fingers , splaying them wide, to stop their curl into a fist. The old method didn’t prevent his mounting frustration. He tried to slow his breathing, control the assaulting chaos of his thoughts. Before he started a wrestling bout, he worked for complete calm. Skill helped him win a bout more than brawn did.

Yet he wasn’t in a bout now. All the ways his father had taught him to tamp down his anger weren’t working. The information Mistress Rawdon told him tackled and pinned him to the ground worse than any of his opponents for the past year.

He breathed noisily through his nose. His jaw hurt from gritting his teeth. Finally, he interrupted her flow about Edrys’ housekeeping to ask, When did Edrys marry him?

Midsummer. Oh, she looked fine, with flowers woven together for a crown atop her head. You ought to have seen her. Impressed even the captain, she did.

Midsummer. Five months ago. Two months after Dav had left to make quick coins by wrestling through the spring festivals and summer markets and harvest fairs.
