Kayla J. Ford

Kayla lives in the heart of the Gold Coast with her fiancé, Joel, and four beautiful children: Riley, Ruby, Mason and Gaberiel. From the moment her grandmother gifted her with a writing pad and pen as a young girl, she knew story-telling was something that set her soul alight. Nothing was more exciting to her than immersing herself into a world of wild adventures and heart stopping romance, a place where dreams are reality and undeniably endless. Kayla started her first ever novel, Fate, in year ten at school. From there, her love to write blossomed and Fate took on a life of its own.

    Chapter 1

    Indie Jones

"Twelve thousand years ago, there was a goddess. She was pure of both mind and soul, body and heart.

Indie Jones was the most respected and kindest person on earth. When she saw Jethro, her heart was stolen; their tale became that of epic legends. The star-crossed couple that was fated to love and doomed to be forever parted. Against all odds, Indie became pregnant with the child that was to become the greatest abomination, the world would ever see. A child born of both heaven and hell; a child named Emery.

Indie’s soul was lost when the war against the kings of old was won and ever since she has been reborn into a new body and forced to live numerus lives.

She used to make herself known, not anymore. Now she hides, Jethro is the only one known to be able to find her true soul in any body. Indie Jones could be anywhere; Indie Jones could be anyone."

I roll my eyes at the pathetic guards outside my cell; they would never believe that the goddess they are talking about was my old life. No one would believe it because all that is left of Indie Jones’ are her emerald eyes.

I now have raven black hair and a small fragile figure that does nothing for my chest. I’m barely five feet tall and my gift is not what it used to be. I could heal and nurture with my water element. Now it has been lost, my new gift giving me the ability to kill with a flicker of my eyes.

I can make people do or think whatever I want, I can pull the air from someone’s lungs, the beating heart from behind their ribs, the plug in their brain that keeps them alive.

I can move anything with the flicker of my eyes. I can break bones, boil blood and blow someone up from the inside out; I am a killer.

    I am the reaper.

At least that’s what the brand on my arm says, Reaper. The ugly burned indent in my skin is what separates me from the others.

The Bravillia is a secret society of people who for thousands of years hid under the radar, they capture people with gifts and lock us away to experiment on.

    It’s a prison.

They got more than they bargained for when they came looking for me, I killed thousands if not millions of their special-order powered soldiers.

When my parents of this life where killed; I came willingly having no other place to go. I was eight years old and full of hate and anger.

They divided us into groups upon arrival, they branded us, then put us into cells.

I didn’t fit into the groups.

‘Greens’ are people with powers that come of earth.

‘Lights’ generate from the air elements and the ‘Infernos’ whose power is that from fire.

They were supposed to be the most dangerous, all hot headed and descended from hell. Then there are those who have power over water, their brands are labelled ‘Pure.’

They had to come up with something new for me; something to set me apart to warn people that I don’t fit. That I am deadly. Reaper. As I reap the souls of the living. I have no moral compass, no compassion, nothing good left inside me. They took that. He took that.

Prisoner! It’s time to stretch your legs. The guards voice bellows through the door, tapping the heal of his gun against the metal.

I step back turning to face the cold plain wall, spreading my hands and legs.

The guard checks me over, his big hands slightly shaking.

Why they check me over, I will never know, I’ve been in solitary for years. How would I have gotten my hands on a weapon? I can’t even shower alone.

Clear, he yells to the two other guards who cuff chains between my hands and my feet.

I shuffle out the door, my chains nosily dragging along with me. As I near the doors, I can hear the combined noise of all the voices chattering away; until I step inside.

The entire cafeteria is silent as I drag my chained feet through the door.

The chains seem pointless. I use my mind, but I guess it makes them feel safe somehow. They have yet to discover a way to diminish my powers. That doesn’t mean they haven’t been trying. Days, stretched to weeks then months of endless mind moulding tests that left me with headaches and nose bleeds that could flood a small village.

Who is that? I hear someone ask.

I look over at the blond leggy girl. She has fresh meat written all over her.

That’s the Reaper, on the one to ten death scale, she’s one thousand, someone answers lamely.

Don’t let her fool you, she may look cute and innocent, but she is a stone-cold killer. Another adds.

A huge red head kid speaks up, Whatever, I could take her. Another new kid I suspect. Nobody who has been here longer than a week dares to confront me Hey reaper! how about you show us what you got? He laughs, I bet you started the rumours yourself so people would be afraid of you.

A few people tell him to back off but just as many egg him on, not caring about his life.

Come on, he presses I’m not scared of a little girl.

My eyes flicker back to the leggy blond as her eyes widen in anticipation, I look away and continue to walk. Not wanting to waist a second of my time on him.

I feel it as he gets up and start to march up to me, his hand out in rage that I’m making him look like a fool.

An inferno, I can feel the heat as he comes within ten feet of me.

You little bitch! he screams and lets out a flame from his fingertips, it’s pathetic.
