Behold, I bring you bad tidings of great woe. How beautiful upon the mountains are my cloven hooves! Can’t wait around for Gabriel to do it. He’s supposed to deliver the messages, but he’s puffed up because he gets to blow the last trump, so he lets me run these little errands.
Sometimes I feel just like Cinderella, but without the incorruptible virtue that exists only in fairy tales and Bible stories; for I, too, have to do all the dirty work for the Upper Classes; I, too, have to take the blame for every little thing that goes wrong; and I’m beautiful, really I am, but my beauty is hidden by ashes. Both Heaven and Earth dump their unsavory business on me. All the evil in the world is laid at my door, just so humanity can be forgiven its innate
