NATURAL HERBAL REMEDIES Book 4 Vincent Wallace
INTRODUCTION
For thousands of years, Native Americans have used herbs to not only heal the body but also to purify the spirit and bring balance into their lives and environments.
They learned about the healing properties of herbs and other plants by observing sick animals, according to oral traditions. There were no documented records of herbal use by the original peoples of America prior to the initial contact between Europeans and the tribes.
This changed when Native Americans shared their knowledge of how to use nature's medicines with the new settlers.
While hundreds of herbs and plants were used in Native American treatments, tobacco was one of the most sacred, being used to treat a variety of ailments as well as in rites and ceremonies.
It was smoked in its purest form, with no additives added, as it is now.
Sage was another important plant to Native Americans because it was thought to not only heal many stomach, colon, kidney, liver, lungs, skin, and other issues but it was also thought to defend against bad spirits and draw them out of the body or soul.
Though the list of medicinal herbs that might be carried in a Healer's medicine bundle is long and varied, those that were frequently used, such as remedies for common colds, such as American Ginseng or Boneset; herbs for aches and pains, such as Wild Black Cherry, Pennyroyal, and Hops; and remedies for fever, such as Dogwood, Feverwort, and Willow Bark, were carried.
This list includes a number of Native American plants as well as others that have been found to be therapeutic for a variety of conditions throughout history. It also contains herbs that are used to treat a variety of modern-day issues. Please keep in mind that some herbs used in the past are no longer recommended.
HEALTH BEINFITS OF NATURAL HERBS
Herbs have been used for medicinal purposes since antiquity, primarily in the form of teas and tinctures. Their nutritional value as a food component has only recently been recognised. To begin, herbs add a burst of flavour to dishes, allowing you to reduce salt without sacrificing flavour. Several herbs, including parsley, are high in vitamins A, C, and K, which are essential for good health.
Herbs' main strength, however, comes from their high concentration of beneficial polyphenols, which are plant chemicals with powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Numerous studies have shown that polyphenols found in herbs can aid in the treatment of diseases such as cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer's, diabetes, and others. Polyphenols have antimicrobial properties, which means they can protect humans from harmful bacteria. Although much of the research on the effects of herbs have used concentrated solutions of the active components of the leaves, there is evidence that their benefits remain when prepared and eaten as part of a regular diet.
Herbs have a variety of general benefits, some of which are listed below:
Boost the Immune System
Herbs are high in antioxidants, phytosterols, vitamins, and other nutritional compounds that aid the body's defence against pollutants and infections. They also help to boost the immune system. Plants can be considered medicines when consumed in small doses.
Plants that boost the immune system include elderberry, garlic, ginger, onion, hibiscus, cinnamon, and goldenseal.
Essential oils with anti-inflammatory properties are found in some herbs, such as ginger root.
These herbs work by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX), an enzyme that promotes inflammatory reactions in the body. This is why herbs are effective natural treatments for inflammation, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory bowel diseases like ulcerative colitis.
Lower Blood Sugar and Cholesterol Levels
Some herbs have pancreatic benefits, which help to balance blood sugar levels. They are said to have treated numerous cases of type I or type II diabetes successfully.
Fenugreek, bilberry, and cayenne pepper extracts, for example, are said to be blood sugar-stabilizing plants. Herbs like psyllium, fenugreek, and licorice have been shown to significantly lower cholesterol and blood pressure levels, thereby preventing a variety of cardiovascular diseases.
Alzheimer's disease can be avoided.
Many herbs have anti-amyloid, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties that can aid in the prevention of Alzheimer's disease. In Europe, the
