    What Is Heredity?

    Family members often look like each other. Perhaps you and your father share the same shaped nose. Maybe you are tall, like your mother. These and many other features are called traits. The sum of all your traits is your phenotype.

    Heredity is the passing of traits from parents to their offspring. We inherit traits from our parents. They inherited traits from their parents. Inherited traits are passed from one generation to the next through genes.
