WHERE IS THE MIDDLE EAST?
Imagine being forced to flee your homeland to settle in a different country. You leave behind everything important to you—family members, friends, and school. You may not even know the language spoken in your new country. How would you feel? Many immigrants face these challenges in countries all over the world.
The first group of immigrants from the Middle East arrived in the United States during the late 1800s. They came from several countries. The region known as the Middle East doesn’t have any formal boundaries. But most people agree that it is made up of approximately 20 countries.
The Middle East features a wide variety of ethnic groups, languages, and religions. Arabs comprise the largest ethnic group in the
