    Chapter 1

Mommy! Have you seen my shin guards? I can’t find them anywhere, I call out.

Al, I’m sure they are the last place you left them. I can’t keep up with all of your stuff. And don’t forget to get your leotard because right after soccer practice, you have your scheduled choreography for your upcoming competition, my mom yells back to me.

I know what my mom is thinking; life would be so much easier on me once Alyssa’s homeschooled. This is so unfair. I don’t want to leave my friends, and how hard is it really for my mom to coordinate practice times? And what happened to good old-fashioned carpools? Where the heck are my shin guards anyway?

Throwing everything out of my soccer backpack, which I realize reeks, I finally find them at the bottom. FOUND EM!

OK, fine, let’s go already, mom yells back.

I hop in the back of the SUV. I love riding in the back. It makes me feel like I’m being chauffeured around. A few minutes later, we arrive at my soon to be not school, Southside Middle.

As soon as I hop out of the car, my best friend Ami runs over and says, "Oh my gosh, that outfit is so cute, BUT have you heard about Jeremy? No one has seen him since last week!

Thanks, I say about my white Chucks and blue t-shirt dress. Then I add, What? Where do people think he’s been? So, weird.

    No clue...alien abduction?

Aliens abducted you both but didn’t want to keep ya! drawls Drew in his thick country accent as he walks up while we are stuffing books in our yellow and green lockers.

Shut up, Drew! we say in unison but then burst out laughing.

Drew pretty much completed our friend circle when he moved here three years ago from Texas. We all head our separate ways for class, and when I sit at my desk, I notice a few people are absent. Huh, slackers, I think to myself. I would never do anything to ruin my perfect attendance. I’m on a roll.

Time flies by, and finally, the bell rings, signifying the end of the school day. Now onto my favorite thing ever, well, maybe it’s my second favorite after gymnastics, and that’s SOCCER. It’s probably only second because gymnastics has been my first love ever since I started at age six. Don’t trip, though, because I am the starting forward of my schools and travel soccer team, and I score goals. It’s what I do.

In the locker room, I notice a few of my teammates aren’t there. Oh man, if they are late, the coach will for sure make them run. If they miss practice altogether, they don’t get to play in the game. Not cool. I hate when we are down players because everyone else has to work harder to make up for it.

Ami and I race to the field together. After our warm-ups, we are super excited for our scrimmage. We high-five each other and yell, Ravioli, Ravioli! it’s a thing we do, long story! We win the game, of course, and before I know it, my mom is blowing the horn for me to hop in the car, and then it’s on to choreography. I barely have time to scarf down the turkey sandwich she has brought for me before I’m hopping out of the car.

Dip, twist, spin, split all to a funky ballet/hip-hop beat. If this routine doesn’t get me high scores, then I don’t know what will. Time flies again, and I’m hopping in the SUV, working on my homework, and holding back yawns. As soon as I get home, I shower, slide into my jammies, and into my bed, and I’m out.

    Chapter 2

NOW I KNOW MY ABC’S NEXT TIME WON’T YOU SING WITH ME! A-B-C-D-E-F-G… Argh! I hit my alarm clock and can’t believe it’s already time for school again. And, yes, my alarm is the ABC song because there is nothing more annoying than a little kid who will not stop singing that song. It will wake anyone up. Trust me. I get up and look at myself in the mirror as I take out my tie-dye colored retainers. Clear brown complexion. Check.  Super long curly hair pulled up into a messy bun. Check. – Freckles? None yet, but I’m hoping to check that one off soon too!

Today is a leggings and hoodie kind of day, so I throw on my unofficial comfy uniform, slide my feet into my Bean boots, and head downstairs to tell someone to Leggo my Eggo. One of these days, I will be more organized, but not today because I still have to run all over the place to get my backpack, soccer, and gymnastic bags before I hop in the SUV that my mom is pretending to drive away in without me.
