Chapter One

My thoughts were of her, and when she awoke, it was 7:30 and I was gone. She'd never been alone in my apartment before. She’d want to snoop. She couldn't. There was a note by the bed.

‘Darling Natalie,’ it started, and the rest was instructions to ‘wait until I return.’

She’d look out of the window and see her reflection in the sunlight. The next building was ten feet away. She’d wait for someone to walk by, to catch her nude in the window. No one did. She remembered the first night she came to my apartment. We'd just met, but I'd known immediately what was going to happen. I'd said I would feed her, and to follow me, so she did.

It’s a dinner party, I told her but when we got there it was just she, I, and a refrigerator full of leftovers. She hadn't been surprised. I took her coat and hung it up at the door.
