Christianne Ashton Henderson

Christianne Henderson was a special education specialist, having served more than thirty years in Montgomery Public Schools. She was the principal of a special school for students who have severe disabilities and are medically fragile. In February, 2007, Christianne was awarded the Alpha Brown CEC award as Special Educator for the state of Alabama. Her heart is dedicated to the special students.She and her husband, Lester, Jr., were married for 58 years before he went home to the Lord. They have four children and eight grandchildren. She is an active member of their church, St. James Church, Alabama. She has been working with Celebrate Recovery for 14 years and continues to work with communion. She has been writing spiritual poetry for several years and has begun writing devotional material in response to the Lord's calling.

The messages presented at our women’s conference by these devoted Christian ladies inspired the words in the chapters and intensive reading of the scriptures to help us all understand how to Escape.

A special thank you is expressed to Dick Reuben, an evangelist who visited St. James UMC five years ago. Having difficulty completing Escape after almost two years (her first book was written in six months), she had asked a small group of ladies on a Tuesday evening to pray for God’s plan to be revealed to her: complete the book or discard her work. Surprisingly, the next morning, Christianne received a telephone call from Mr. Reuben regarding a poem she had written for him during his visit to Montgomery. He told her that he wanted to encourage her to carry on with her talent. God does not work in mysterious ways!

INTRODUCTION

In the busy world in which we live today, life can become very difficult for us women. We are often anxious because we cannot complete our tasks and we become frustrated and sometimes panic in the busyness in which we find ourselves. We are also frequently guilty of focusing on what we need to do or have not been able to do instead of living our lives with Jesus Christ. We can completely forget to focus on God and focus on whatever becomes more important than Him. If we don’t spend time with God, we will probably never focus on Him.

As we go through our business as usual days in this complex world, we frequently stray from the way of Christ and find ourselves giving in to temptations and rationalizing our wrong behaviors. Or when we are constantly multitasking, important
