About this ebook

Three witches, three wolves, one prophecy

It's time for the Witches of Mystic Grove to join the 21st-century. But first, they need to expel all their archaic rituals. Cassandra Gray understands better than anyone the task before them. It's the reason she's been avoiding her best friend, Asher Alexander.

But when a night of passion produces a positive pregnancy test, Cassie's world is turned upside down. Plagued with fear, anxiety and a prophecy looming over her head, she reluctantly tells the father. The last thing she wants is a relationship based on duty and obligation.

Asher Alexander is the omega of the Mystic Wolf Shadow Pack. When chaos erupts, he's the calm, cool, collected one. Until he discovers, he's going to be a father. All reason flies out the window when his mate rejects his proposal.

Warning: This fairytale isn't for the faint of heart. Fate is a fickle b*tch with a wicked sense of humor. There's only one problem, the heroine isn't laughing.

Witch on the Fly - Isabel Micheals

    CHAPTER 1

    Your Ego Is Preggo

Cassie set the timer on her phone, let out the breath she’d been holding and sent up a quick prayer to the Goddess as she waited on the results of the three pregnancy tests mocking her. Sitting on the toilet, her knees were shaking. She’d never been so terrified in her life. Or stupid. The verdict was still out.

Why had she muddied the waters with Asher? Yeah, he was sexy as sin, but he was also her best friend and brother-in-law. Okay, maybe brother-in-law was a stretch, but they were in-laws by marriage. His brothers, Liam and Hunter, had married her cousins, Piper and Skylar. While they were living in wedded bliss, she was sitting in a bathroom waiting to find out if she was going to be someone’s baby mama. How had her life spiraled so far out of control that she couldn’t find a lifeline?

Lucinda tried not to laugh. You’re in this situation because chaos follows you everywhere. If you won’t be honest with me, at least be honest with yourself. We were a little tipsy and wanted hot, dirty sex with Asher. What woman in her right mind wouldn’t want to get that man in bed?

Cassie rolled her eyes and muttered under her breath to no one in particular, Put a lid on it. I don’t need your judgment and condemnation today. She couldn’t decide if her annoying conscious was an Angel from the Goddess or a Demon from Hell.

When her phone chimed, she groaned as denial, anxiety, fear and shock rolled through her body like a runaway locomotive. It was time to face the truth--good, bad or ugly. Unfortunately, her vibrato was short-lived as she noticed the dark circles under her eyes. She hadn’t slept in several days and the porcelain throne had become her best friend.

What the hell had she been thinking climbing into bed with Asher? Not once, but twice. Temporary insanity could be a plausible explanation, but she knew the truth. It’s the reason she’d avoided his advances all these years. The sex was phenomenal. Hell, if she were being truly honest with herself, it was the best she’d ever had, which was the reason she fell into bed with him the second time at Skylar and Hunter’s wedding.

Um. I beg to differ. You were thinking your vajayjay was finally going to get some action before it withered up and died a horrible, lonely death.

Thanks for the insight, Captain Obvious, Cassie hissed, as she admonished her alter ego.

Anytime. But might I suggest that you don’t hate the messenger.

Why not? You’re the reason we’re in this mess.

Once again, I beg to differ. We both know that if you had waited any longer to spread your legs, Asher would have needed a miner’s hard hat and an industrial duster to remove those cobwebs covering your vajay-jay. We haven’t had sex since the last full moon for Goddess’s sake. And don’t give me that crap about being busy. No one’s every too busy to enjoy sex.

Cassie didn’t know what scared her more, the fact that she might be pregnant or that she was arguing with herself in the mirror. Either way, she was screwed for the third time in less than a month and a half because Aunt Flo was a no show. Before her last night of wild sex and debauchery with Asher that still made her toes tingle with pleasure, her crimson tide was always on time. Oh, how the tide had changed courses and not in her favor.

Rubbing her forehead, Cassie felt a migraine emerging. What she wouldn’t give to have her cousins by her side right now for moral support. But Piper was swamped at Paddycakes, and Skylar was with her new husband enjoying a late honeymoon. Her eyes welled with tears because it wasn’t supposed to be like this. She was supposed to be over the moon with excitement not dread. She’d always wanted children, but she never planned on doing it alone. Not that Asher wouldn’t step up to the plate and help, but in her minds-eye, she had always imagined herself happily married to the man of her dreams when she discovered that she was pregnant. They would drive to the drugstore full of excitement to buy a pregnancy test. And when it revealed she was pregnant, they would kiss passionately and plan for their bundle of joy. Her pregnancy was a life-changing event that they were supposed to have shared together. Instead, she was in a bathroom alone, contemplating all her life choices.

Wiping away the unshed tears, Cassie let out a long, insufferable sigh. She really needed to get a grip. She had thought about calling Ash but didn’t want to jump the gun and create a shit storm that would send him into panic mode. Besides, there was no reason to cause a scare if she wasn’t pregnant. Not to mention, she was terrified enough for them both.

Standing on wobbly legs, she silently gave herself a pep-talk before picking up the first pregnancy test that would decide her fate. Her hands shook as she blinked several times in disbelief at the results. The blue plus sign screaming at her from the rapid detection test had sweat beading off her eyebrow. Oh, my Goddess, she was pregnant. Desperate for a different answer, she picked up the second test that confirmed once again, she was knocked up. Cassie knew her odds weren’t looking good, but she had to know the results of the third and final test. If Lady Luck was on her side, it would be negative. She needed it to be negative because she wasn’t ready for a baby. She wanted kids but not right now when her life was in a state of flux.

Undeterred, she hoped the third test would prove the other two as false positives. She grabbed the pregnancy test like a crack whore reached for her next fix, only to discover that Lady Luck and Fate were fickle bitches with a wicked sense of humor. There was only one problem, she wasn’t laughing. Now, hysterical crying, was a different story as she collapsed on her bathroom floor. What was she going to do now?

Cassie wasn’t sure how long she laid sprawled out on her bathroom floor. All that mattered was life as she knew it was over. She had a baby to take care of now. Someone who would depend on her for life itself. Someone who would never disappoint her. Someone who would never hurt her. Someone who would love her unconditionally. She couldn’t screw this up. Yet, her mind kept wandering back to the one question that kept feeding her fear. What the hell did she know about babies?

Yeah, babies were cute, but they also pooped...a lot. Not to mention, they spit up all kinds of unimaginable stuff. And babies damn sure didn’t come with a manual. Just the thought of having to feed and clothe a child had her head spinning. They were both going to die because she couldn’t cook and she sure as hell couldn’t order take out every night. Was there a Grubhub for infants? She’d have to investigate that because hell, she burnt water, which was easier said than done when your skills in the kitchen were nonexistent. Her cousins teased her about it relentlessly, but they were pastry chefs. What the hell did they know about the struggles of cooking? They had won the Great Wiccan Cake Off last year. The only cooking competition she was guaranteed to win was the world’s worst cook. Maybe she could sneak in some magic to help during desperate times, which let’s face it would be all the time.

Not unless you want your child visiting you behind bars. If you use your magic for self-gain, Baba Yaga will throw your boney ass in the pokey so fast, it will make your head spin.

Is it too much to ask for a little support? All this negativity is wearing me out. Besides, I’m trying to save a life here, Cassie groused.

Hmm. Okay, here’s a thought that is guaranteed to cheer you up. Now that your ego is preggo, you can eat all the Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia you want.

Jeez, thanks! That made me feel better, Cassie said in a sarcastic voice.

Hey, stop shooting the messenger, her subconscious pleaded.

Overwhelmed and slightly depressed, Cassie burst into tears. Again. She needed to think of a plan, but her body wouldn’t move, and her mind was clouded with fog. What would her parents’ say? What would Asher say? Would he think she was trying to trap him into marriage? She hoped and prayed to the Goddess that he knew her better than that. Then, there was that damn prophecy she hadn’t told her cousins about. She made a mental note to tell them because their parents had some explaining to do. They were supposed to take over the coven in a couple of years. In order to move the Witches of Mystic Grove Coven into the twenty-first century, they needed to expel all these archaic rituals. Cassie sighed with resignation. How had her life become so complicated in such a short period of
